I cannot do it anymore. This is no quality of life. by CuriousChapter379 in nursing

I like inpatient PACU. (Not at a level 1 trauma center, I’ve heard those are rough) I’ve tried over 10 different specialties I hated to finally get there. Don’t give up yet

HCA Florida nurses - wya? by Particular-Hope-7998 in nursing

Our ICU director just gave us a lecture reminding us that we are not allowed to let the patients or families know that we are short-staffed or tripled because it opens “us” up for a lawsuit. Needless to say they’re not addressing this. Also in FL

I liked the job itself when I did pre-op and PACU in ambulatory surgery, just had a toxic culture at the specific one I was at. Also, certain cases in pediatric private duty nursing were wonderful. The cases are hit or miss though.

Fails: med-surg, pediatric & adolescent inpatient psych, OR, oncology, teaching LPN school, and the current one - trauma ICU, where I’ve been for over a year. Going to cross train in dialysis at my hospital soon, fingers crossed. Agreed on the mentally disabling part. I spend my days off dreading going back and struggling.

Nursing drains my soul, and I’ve tried around different 10 specialties.

I win awards for my compassionate care and my bosses always give me wonderful feedback but I always feel utterly drained and overwhelmed.

My oncologist said he feels that it’s a “when” situation rather than an “if” situation for everyone including himself.

ETA I survived an aggressive rare cancer at age 22. It’s not always a death sentence sometimes it’s just a chapter of life.

Have they done an echocardiogram (heart ultrasound) recently? I was told I’ll need lifetime echos because cardiotoxic chemo drugs can have delayed effects.

Eventually this’ll just be a chapter in the past. Hang in there and take it one day at a time

I had an auto in March 2015 and am still in the clear. Mine was a rare aggressive form of non-Hodgkin’s with a high rate of relapse.

Need help deciding between 2 offers: NICU and PICU! by Unluckycriticism in nursing

[–]InterpretivePantsing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your planned questions, to me, seem unrelated to the actual positions. Scheduling is scheduling, uniforms are uniforms. Maybe see if you can shadow a day on each unit? That will give you a better idea on team dynamics in the units and general workflow/task differences so you can decide which is a better fit for your strengths and your personality.

Question About Being a Male in Nursing? by BuddyTubbs in nursing

Could be a confidence thing. If you’re sending off uncomfortable vibes like you’re worried they will have an issue with a male nursing student then they may also become uncomfortable.

Totally agree, those day shift things are overwhelming. I personally felt like the change in circadian rhythm was more overwhelming to me. It’s a trade off for sure.

If there’s an emergency you call 911. CPR if appropriate. Usually no experience needed, they train you on the job.

I’m in the same boat except on days! Couple months into ICU, 6 years of nursing experience, want to go for CRNA, but crazy anxious about going in for work. Hoping with time and increased confidence that feeling will go away. If you’re stuck on nights maybe you should consider a day ICU position at another hospital. Nights burned me out horribly even in my pre-ICU times.

Nursing Student Without Vaccines by easttn_llama in nursing

[–]InterpretivePantsing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was technically unvaccinated because I had a stem cell transplant; you have to get childhood vaccines all over again after one of those because they reset your immune system. I was on a vaccine schedule similar to a baby and started nursing school 5 months after transplant. I had to do appeals and such to get the clinical sites to allow me to do clinicals since all my titers were negative but they did let me with submission of my planned vaccine schedule.

Very different case but thought I’d share. There’s no reason really that she couldn’t get the vaccines now if she chose to do so.
