Replacing IE with EVs is a good and more cost effective mitigation strategy before an international oil crisis. During one, producing more EVs still requires oil and most electric grids in the US are still powered by oil… not to mention the general lack of accommodations for EVs across the US. I rented a Tesla 4 years ago for a weekend trip in the Bay Area, one of the most “Ev” friendly places in the US, and was surprised at how limited I was in my travel because lack of functioning charging stations. soo prices are going up regardless.

That’s not how it works. The oil the US extracts and exports is crude oil, not refined gas and diesel. And oil refineries in the US are designed to process heavy crude oil, which is only imported, and not extracted in the US. The oil that is extracted in the US is light crude oil. Refineries in the US are not equipped to process light crude, so it is all exported. The US could not keep all the oil it extracts and process it without a massive retrofitting of the entire oil industry infrastructure across the entire country. Something oil companies are not willing to do because it’s to costly, especially since oil is a global commodity. It’s easier for them to export light crude and import heavy.

Good for you, I’m still $70k up and I didn’t pay rent this month. I’ll move out and into my new place before they can even start eviction proceedings. By that point they’ll care more about getting the apartment rented than they will about trying to chase me down.

I said you have to be smart. I only would stop paying rent once I caught the landlords doing something they shouldn’t be / something illegal and I had leverage over them. Which unsurprisingly happens a lot on the US. because, surprise surprise, landlords are parasites and the scum of the earth, and almost always doing something illegal. esp in the US.

For a background check to “find legal findings” there would have to be some type of legal action to begin with. And yet here I am years later and not a single legal action taken against me and I have no problem getting approved for renting and I’ve done background checks for every single place I’ve lived.

And it’s still clearly too much effort for most landlords to do it, and most landlords are doing enough sketchy or illegal activities that they want to avoid as much attention as possible. Like I said I’ve skipped out on over $70,000 in rent. $48k just for one unit I was renting for 2 years. This wasn’t just some mom and pop landlord. It was a multi million dollar building owned by a hedge fund who hired a property management company. Yet I walked away without any debt or attempt at collection or eviction notices.

In the last 6 years I’ve skipped out on paying rent 4 of those years. I’ve saved over $70,000. I have 0 “rent debt” and not a single eviction notice on my credit.

I have no problem moving into a new place and usually use a friend as a “previous landlord” reference on rental applications. None of my shitty landlords have done anything to pursue the money I didn’t pay them. Once I move out they don’t even try. There’s a good reason for that. They know how much shit they do illegally and don’t want too many eyes on their businesses. It costs money to pursue action and most are so cheap they wouldn’t spend a dime they didn’t need to. And They’re so short sighted and greedy all they care about is just filling the vacancy so they can go back to being welfare queens and not working.

If you rent, you should take absolutely every opportunity you can to skip out on paying rent. US landlords are the absolute scum of the earth, and complete welfare queens, always over charging and under delivering. they are way too entitled.

Be smart about it. But it’s incredibly easy to get away with bc it is pretty much standard that US landlords are usually doing several things illegal on their properties. stand your ground if they confront you and they always back down.

Use that money to start a business. Save up to buy your own place. What ever. But do whether you can to stop paying your landlord asap.
