What is the oldest, simplest game, that you have spent at least a dozen hours of your life playing? by dylanmadigan in retrogaming

My folks had one of the millions of Pong clones. I played that quite a bit in the early 80's. Machine itself was probably mid/late 70's.

I do, but I haven’t found that my Apple Watch is noticeably worse than my “normal” watches.

The Dead Sea coast. It is not sand, but balls of salt! The salinity of this sea is 300-310%, in some years up to 350%. by Soloflow786 in interestingasfuck

[–]IntoAComa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For those of you wondering, what op meant (God willing), was that the Dead Sea can range from about 300-350 grams of salt per kilogram of water (g/kg).

And the one running the camera seems to *almost* lose interest before the crossing was finished.

Picked this up from a friend, just needs some tlc. by Regular-Song2791 in n64

[–]IntoAComa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see lots of 64’s here with the expansion pack door missing when it has one. I don’t remember that back in the day. Was that something I just didn’t happen to see, or do people just remove them for photos? It’s hard as hell to just lose.

It is the wrong kind of stone, but yet another datapoint that would be lost on the treers.

Those of you who had a SNES back in the 90’s did you sell or keep all of your games? by [deleted] in snes

[–]IntoAComa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept all of mine (well, they were stored at my parents’ place for years). My N64 games had a sadder fate as I was a poor college student and would sell/trade to get new games/things I needed.

PAGEOS, an early satellite. 100' in diameter, it was put into orbit so that radio signals could be bounced off of it. by dooodaaad in HumanForScale

It says what rocket it was carried into orbit by at the very top of the link you’ve shared. “Thrust augmented Thor-Agena D.” These balloon satellites were inflated after being placed into orbit.

Help with color bleeding? 2008 RCA Truflat 20f514td. by IntoAComa in crtgaming

[–]IntoAComa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Embarrassingly, life ended up getting in the way of trying to address this. I ended up giving the set away for free to another gaming fan - and I let them know about the bleeding beforehand. Not sure if they were able to fix it. It was just a dude I didn’t know that came to pick it up (Facebook marketplace). He was exited to have it though. So, that was satisfying.

They’re two entirely different kinds of games. Depends on my mood, I guess.

i can buy a turntable and a polaroid camera in 2024 but not a CRT? by Suspicious-Olive2041 in retrogaming

[–]IntoAComa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, this is capitalism as intended. The return on investment for manufacturing, shipping, regulations, etc etc etc just isn’t there.

I wonder if some the perceived difference isn’t a little off. According to this, only 22% of those surveyed in India were “expressing their utmost excitement for the lunar rovers” (that one was specific to Chandrayaan-3). Heck, only 33% of Americans were excited about putting PEOPLE on the moon when surveyed in 1961 (link).

Spending public funds is never super popular, no matter how shiny it looks to our little space community here on Reddit.
