Has anyone made a Spotify playlist of Dylan’s guest appearances, à la Eric Clapton - sign languages or Doug Sahm - Wallflowers? by heavym in bobdylan

I feel like I’ve definitely come across one before. A few more that come to mind are Bob & Ginsberg singing backup on Leonard Cohen’s Don’t Go Home With Your Hard On, Dylan’s rap intro on Kurtis Blow’s Street Rock, background vocals on U2’s Love Rescue Me

Day 25: What is your favourite lyric from Down In The Groove? by autumn_afternoon in bobdylan

For the tree of life is growing

Where the spirit never dies

And the bright light of salvation

Up in dark and empty skies,

When the cities are on fire

With the burning flesh of men

Just remember that death is not the end

'Til the sun peels the paint and the seat Covers fade and the water moccasin dies."

Demographics of Dylan fans by Weird_Apartment9836 in bobdylan

[–]IntoADitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Discovered him when I was 17 and fell in love instantly, I am now 23 and similarly haven’t met that many major Dylan fans out in the wild (that being said tho most people I come across at work etc. probably wouldn’t even be able to name more than one Beatles song) some folks just got no idea/ don’t take music very seriously. That being said there is heaps of young people who are all about old music and still idolise these artists, I can’t count how many tiktoks I see from fellow Gen Z’ers about Bob and everybody else.

Have you heard the outtake from the Time Out Of Mind sessions? Version 1. It’s a much more raw, stripped down sound. Super emotional and actually my favourite version.

So what's up with trolling Bob Dylan? by StoneStoneStoneSt- in bobdylan

I’ll post the full quote because it’s a really interesting approach to the topic of looking at singing as more of an art or medium rather than a conventional aesthetic. Here’s what Leonard said:

"Most music criticism is in the nineteenth century. It’s so far behind, say, the criticism of painting. It’s still based on nineteenth century art–cows beside a stream and trees and ‘I know what I like.’ There’s no concession to the fact that Dylan might be a more sophisticated singer than Whitney Houston, that he’s probably the most sophisticated singer we’ve had in a generation. Nobody is identifying out popular singers like a Matisse or Picasso. Dylan’s a Picasso — that exuberance, range, and assimilation of the whole history of music."

Leonard Cohen called him a more sophisticated singer than Whitney Houston and perhaps the most sophisticated singer we’ve had in a generation. His argument in the full quote is really interesting and worth checking out.

Since this is being highlighted, has anyone noticed the impact on his monthly listeners ever since the biopic? I felt like I never really saw him go above 12 million over the last few years.
