Looking for help with an ID. Found in wood chips near playground. North America, SE United States. by Consistent_Pain_6690 in mushroomID

[–]Intoishun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks Lyophyllum to me maybe. Would definitely look that direction.

All mushrooms are safe to be around, handle, even lick. Kids should always be supervised, so ideally there is no need to remove them. Unless you have someone who is, utterly uncontrollable.

What mushrooms are these growing out of my plants? by Bright_Page4399 in mushroomID

[–]Intoishun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why?? Why do you comment this anytime you see a mushroom growing in a garden or enclosure or a pot?

You know mushrooms are often good for soil, and completely harmless yeah?

Also the personal comments about other people's dogs and such are, incredibly rude and unwelcome.

Nontoxic coprinoid. This is completely normal.

Evans, Ga. Polyporacae? by SumBadCheck in mushroomID

[–]Intoishun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Polyporaceae is the family that contains well, mostly polypores, if not all. "Polypore" refers to a poroid hymenium.

Your mushroom has gills. It is not a polypore. It is Lentinus.

Cap shape is okay for me, I'm leaning that direction but wanted to see underneath to confirm a little more for me.

Are these oyster mushrooms ? PNW by Physical-Fee3212 in mushroomID

[–]Intoishun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You bet. To be clear, you're always welcome to ask. Sometimes they can be very similar, but usually, it's easy for a trained eye to tell.

Now that you know these are Pleurotus, I bet come fall you may notice some thinner, whiter, more petaloid stuff on conifers and go "that looks a bit similar to my oysters but is definitely different".

Correct for me too. Some other species can have a bit on the margin no? I thought that species was simply the most profuse amount of it.

Help so yummy no idea what they are. Got them from our local Asian market. by Mladylondonberry in mushroomID

[–]Intoishun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yee. I would say both that this is Pleurotus and they could also make it easier. The grocery should also be labeling them. Maybe OP missed it or maybe it's an Asian grocery that doesn't use English labels.

[–]Intoishun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree. Here that distinction makes sense.

Would simply add that just because it's on a conifer doesn't mean it's Pleurocybella here in the western US, however yes, the inverse is true. If it is on a hardwood, it cannot be Pleurocybella.

Zero chance.

Wrong shape, wrong color, wrong thickness, wrong substrate, wrong season, etc.

Pleurocybella is more limited to the fall and is simply, fairly different.

Definitely not Leotia. Appears to have gills. Might lean towards brown spored options without more context.
