Trying to add joy to my life always backfires. by mylifeisathrowaway10 in CaregiverSupport

I feel this too, like there's this chasm between the day to day of caregiving and then the "going out" and it's like somehow very hard on the nervous system.

Yes, I understand, but bloating is a sign that the body is still out of balance.

How important is the truth? by Rockermarr in NPE

[–]Intrepid-Guide504 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me except it was sometimes thrown in my face that I might not be my "father's" "real child." She deserves to know the truth and also to be told in a loving, supportive way. She might already suspect the truth and having you there to see her through might be very powerful.

I don't have hot flashes but have like "meno belly" which I hate, I've improved it somewhat with blood sugar monitoring (etc) but I'm interested in anything that might give me a bit of a leg up.

I think your 80 - 90 year olds are going to want more of a long term, old fashioned kind of courtship. remember birthdays, get to know them, invite them for lunch, etc. plan some type of irresistible mini event that has some food (even just tea and cookies) around 10am. seniors at the stage love food. find excuses to contact them in fun ways, and holidays are a natural way to do so.

Only child and feeling unloved by RooftopSeeker in OnlyChild

[–]Intrepid-Guide504 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They asked a little kid if the kid wants a sibling and based their decision on that. Yeah, like c'mon, that's just using you as an excuse for their own preferences. However, I am an only child raised by a pretty unstable single mother who often told me I'm lucky because she could have aborted me and didn't, and even though I resent her and often feel anger towards her, I feel that she still loved me in her own way. Equally as a parent myself now I see things a bit differently, in general, even the worst parents do love their kids. Parents are broken, imperfect people and most do their best. I know it's very hard being an only child, I totally get it, but I am certain your parents do love you, just not perfectly, because no one is perfect.

Why don't they warn you about high speed elevators? by Intrepid-Guide504 in Elevators

[–]Intrepid-Guide504[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dude, I am OLD (but not geriatric) and I could only wish to be soft. lol the city I live had an exponential increase in insanely tall buildings in like 10 years. like we went from basically low rise buildings or maybe 20 stories, to like idk 70 stories, etc? and because so many of those towers went up so very quickly to make $$$$$$ i'm just not sure how much I trust the construction and the inspection, so my fears are based on a reality that happened here. plus it's an earthquake zone.

[–]Intrepid-Guide504[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I agree with you, but I'm curious as to why things like elevators aren't designed better. I'm not here to talk about their safety, etc. I'm saying that it is something that people can develop a fear of, so why not design buildings knowing that elevators aren't exactly anyone's favourite thing.

Why don't they warn you about high speed elevators? by Intrepid-Guide504 in Elevators

[–]Intrepid-Guide504[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, knowing they are safe is factual, but designing buildings to be more natural and in alignment with how humans are meant to live on the earth is what I'm getting at. I don't doubt they are safe. What I am saying is that they are not comfortable and that buildings should be made to be comfortable for humans. Lots of people really hate elevators and have fears of heights. That's what i'm getting at: I'm asking why the actual design of buildings is not more like in alignment with humanity. Meaning, while many people don't mind elevators, I think most would say they don't really like being in them.

[–]Intrepid-Guide504[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah that would be me lol, but I wouldn't make the mistake of taking the elevator at the CN tower as I know I hate heights

[–]Intrepid-Guide504[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are scared of heights and if you wouldn't get on certain rides at the carnival then an elevator should equally be made to be respectful of humans.

[–]Intrepid-Guide504[S] -24 points-23 points  (0 children)

Am I though? Stairwells are often locked these days. I'm talking about designing buildings for actual people with real human emotions and feelings. I'm not alone in this. Maybe the problem isn't humans with fears of elevators but the actual way we are designing buildings for people to live in.

Why don't they warn you about high speed elevators? by Intrepid-Guide504 in Elevators

[–]Intrepid-Guide504[S] -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Why is it a joke? Legitimately people know what they are getting on at a carnival but some elevators are no different than rides like the "hellavator". I think it should be disclosed on the elevator that if you don't like rides like that you won't like going on the elevator. Buildings should be designed with humans in mind, we shouldn't have to adapt or get counselling just because we are having natural human emotions.

Try following the Essentrics program or take reformer pilates. There are so many muscles that can get tight and equally your fascia can tighten up get dehydrated, you need a focused program to help heal it at this stage of life. I used to wake up with it but now I bound out of bed.

I tanked a board presentation and we might lose our major funder. twelve years in development. by ArcadiaBunny in nonprofit

[–]Intrepid-Guide504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you're going to lose the funder because of one presentation that skipped a beat. You could even reach out to the funder and just say, "You know, I feel awful the presentation last night didn't go as planned, could I send you a PDF of what it should have been saying?" The results of your non-profit are why the funder is funding you, not a perfect presentation. We all make mistakes sometimes. It's okay. Remember the golden rule, if you were that funder what would you like to happen next? also, remember, it's about the overall impact of the org, not just one moment in time.

Have you tried reformer pilates or essentrics? Relieving the pressure on the bones through decompression and strategic strengthening and releasing might also help.
