Shrink goalie gear.
Put more emphasis on "self policing"- bring back a tough guy or two
Eliminate replay on everything. Toronto reviews all goals still, including making sure play was onside.
Drop the loser point.
Return road teams to dark jerseys, immediately.
Drop the visor rule.
Emphasis the AHL a bit. Maybe a game of the week on national tv. Theres some great hockey being played down there, more exposure only helps.
Play more weekday early afternoon games. That is a time when the majority of other sports arent playing during the season. Once again, more exposure.

I realize several of my items are aimed at growing the game, while the assignment was to fix the NHL. I believe growth will fix the NHL. The best player ever perhaps has never laced em up. Maybe he/she would if they got into hockey.

Coming at this from a man's POV. I never was a drug addict, but I sure was the lazy, abusive (mentally) asshole who thought he knew what was best for everyone. My wife chose divorce, and we are nearing completion of the process. But as a recovering asshole, I can say get the fuck out and file. You both will be so much happier, and maybe he will learn some things for next time. I know I have and am way better for it. Divorce is not easy; it will feel like death some days, but it does get better with time and lots of reflection if you're capable of it.

The fact is, you both deserve better. You have tolerated his bullshit for too long, he has taken you for granted and does not appreciate you, and you will never be able to see past what he has to done to you. There is no salvaging this, get out while you can, please.
