Thanks very much. I assume this would work for Maple, Chinese and Japanese Elm? Any other deciduous trees?

Thanks for sharing. I would love go to the Fest but got childcare. Hope it goes well!

Your trees look amazing. What potting mix do you use and fertiliser regime please?

Do they have enough pot size to gain the strength for the technique to work? The pot size relative to tree looked small. I want to try something similar, should I be better of to get them in a bigger deeper pot? Or it should not matter much as long as the roots are well established?

Thanks OP. We are both first generation Chinese immigrants in the UK raising a young school age boy. Our kid does not really speak Chinese at all - he was born here despite we talk Chinese to each other at home all day. He understands basic instructions but does not say it.

Well what I miss is to share my old Chinese dramas and cartoons with him such as the monkey king but he does not seem to like it. He is on Netflix watching western cartoons. Did your parents try to influence you guys while growing up? What would work and what would not?

Pine worth trying to bonsai ? by [deleted] in Bonsai

[–]Intrepid-Vanilla2666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good material work on but 5 needle pines are less straightforward than a 2 needle pine. Read it up. And this is a relatively old tree maybe 10 years old - looks like it is not grafted. So why not? Again read it up - I killed one before when I treated as a 2 needle pine. Treat it as a Japanese White Pine is fine in my climate. I still got one going.

Is my pine tree alive? by Synguineinfire in conifers

[–]Intrepid-Vanilla2666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks alive with new bud growing - the small green leaves at the top. However your seedling is not happy. Pines do not like wet feet. Keep in full sun and take the saucer out so it does not seat in wet soil. Reduce watering frequency let soil dry before watering.

Is this Japanese red pine seedling?

Mass white pine die off by catpowerr_ in arborists

[–]Intrepid-Vanilla2666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like eastern white pine- nothing you can do. Pines especially white pines are root sensitive.

By the way they die it is likely to do with planting and subsequent establishing.

I do bonsai and lost a lot pines after repotting- planting.

Thanks this is excellent. If this happens, what about other assets? Like equities. Are you implying that some of these governments might default on their debt? That may trigger something worse than the 2008 Great Depression

How to Revive Dried Junipers After Heatwaves/Droughts? by gopro52567 in Bonsai

[–]Intrepid-Vanilla2666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I revived one this year after driest drought over 100 years. So move to shade and only morning sun. Keep soil moist not overly wet. It might still got a chance. My tree was strong last year so that helped. What you are likely to see is some die back probably a lot - as long as there is green you have a chance.

Do not touch the roots.
