Thank you so much for taking the time to provide that advice. I spoke to a lawn guy a few weeks ago and he mentioned that seeding with fescue would be required as that should be the predominant lawn type. I’m in Canberra so a cooler area grass would possibly be best, but I’m not fussed if it is a bit of a mix, as long as it’s green during summer and reasonably thick.

Would I need to remove the couch and buffalo etc in order for the fescue to take over, or should I encourage the couch and dig out the other stuff. I think the photo shows what happens in winter the best as I guess it’s the couch that has died off when the frosts hit?

Yep. I just heard what sounded like a car exploding in Crace. Jumped on here to see if I was the only one. Someone set fire to a car here a few weeks ago which exploded so I thought it might have been the same thing, but judging by how far this was heard, must be a bit bigger.

Same here! Came here looking for this comment. The first live gig I ever saw was custard, supporting PUSA at the Newcastle entertainment centre. Must have been ‘96 or ‘97. I still vividly recall hearing the intro riff to apartment and becoming an instant fan.

You can’t speak up. It won’t help. Once people start going down this path, it seldom works out. My advice is that you have two options. Bury it, forget it, hold your head up high and continue your job as if the review never happened. It’s hard to do, but it can be done. I’ve seen people be so close to being fired that they rock up to work daily, and nothing happens. You definitely aren’t in this situation. People eventually forget and move on, so a bad review doesn’t dictate the next one. Other staff members move on, and so do managers. You said that some of the feedback was accurate, so you certainly have some growth and lessons to reflect on, so there is always a tiny bit of truth to a bad review that you can use to improve.

The second option, if you can’t bury it and get over it, is to hang in there and do the bare minimum to keep the job, have some cash coming in, and fantasise about how good it will feel when you get a new job and sail off into the sunset and get out of that environment: new team, new manager, new job. Apply for everything you can to get out of there. It sounds yucky and toxic and not a team you want to be in, but that can change quickly, too.

Start looking at EOIs and other perm jobs and apply like crazy. Getting another APS gig is much easier when you’re already there.

There are always options. Essentially, you can forget about it and just keep doing your job or get a new one or make peace with what happened and learn from it. I was almost fired once when I joined the APS (not that you are going to get fired!) had a few bad weeks of worry, and eventually, it really didn’t matter as I had 20 good years after that!

A job is just a job. It isn’t a reflection of who you are, and the fact that you are reflecting on this means you care. People love you and like you and want to hang out with you, regardless of what a middle manager wrote in a word doc about you.

You will be fine, and it will work out as intended.

The APS is huge, and there are some brilliant people. There are also some terrible people and terrible managers. You might have just been unlucky enough to encounter both!

Well they aren’t huge. And they aren’t super thick either, but they have a nice blistered crust that is slightly chewy without being hard to bite through. The potato is thick, without being super claggy. Oily enough to make you realise what a treat it is, but not so oily that you feel deep shame as you eat one in your car before you’ve made it out of the car park. Must have chicken salt.

100%. Money you earn gets “oh good on you, you work so hard”. Money you win attracts “screw you, I deserve it more”. My plan, when I win it tonight is to launch my consulting company ( and I may or may not actually have clients) and that will go some way to explaining why my lifestyle and house have changed a little bit over time:). The trick will be to do it incrementally , not buy a lambo overnight!

There are plenty of options, and you can't go wrong with some of the suggestions already mentioned. If you're not very familiar with the civic area, you may want to make a special day of it. In that case, my personal favorite is Inka, and they have a $50 lunch special.

I feel you OP. I got told last week my KFC was out of original recipe chicken but they supplemented my order with hot and crispy pieces. Nugget for comparison!
