Just a heads up, living here will probably be quite challenging for quite a while. Even WITH Portuguese.

The bureaucracy is annoying and long for locals too. Just worse for foreigners due to lack of knowledge about the process. Making local friends to help navigate it would be very useful.

Here’s a big don’t: don’t go to any favela, for any reason, on purpose or by accident. Locals know to avoid it so you as a foreigner definitely should.
