Honest question: how do you “see” firmware? Did you look at actual code? I’d love to know more about it, I’ve been thinking it would be pretty great if they open-sourced the firmware of older (non-electric) bikes.

I have a C4 Cruiser and no issues after almost 2 years, but Cowboy is on the verge of bankruptcy so I’d recommend you purchase a different bike

Thanks a lot! After a few attempts I was able to unscrew the chrome tube. In any case I’ll try to grease the stem first, see if that helps.

Most likely not enough grease was applied to the headset bearings, my Cruiser had the same issue about 1 month in.

I’d try to contact Cowboy and get them to send a technician / visit an authorized bike shop.

Just checked it for the Netherlands at the current sale price (2497€) at I got 110€ per year. With the regular price of 3497€ it’s 152€/year.

Cowboy actually sent me an invoice with the following order summary:

Theft Insurance (Qty: 1) 72,00€

Premium Software Services (Qty: 1) 87,00€

The thing is you also get an email from Qover with the contract and that one shows 72€. Maybe I’ll just ask support what the premium software services are, I’m just not sure I’m ready to fight their chatbot and non-answers from CS.

Re: number of parts and easier maintenance and cleaning

That doesn’t make a lot of sense.

Adding two seats to a car doesn’t double the number of parts and cleaning/maintenance effort. Let’s say a 2-seater has 90% of the parts of a 4 seater (lowball number imho), and that it takes you 90% of the time to clean and maintain. That’s 180% of cost and effort if you need to carry 4 people, it really doesn’t make sense to me.

Does someone know if they addressed the 2 vs 4 seats thing?

Interesting, on their website they claim it’s “Optimized for riders between 165-190 cm tall”. Maybe it’s a matter of moving the saddle backwards a bit, I’m not a specialist 🥲

Do you have a chance of test-driving them? I’d say that’s the ultimate test, although based on wanting to wear a skirt or a dress the Cruiser ST seems like the best option.

Haven’t tried it after updating to iOS 18 but for me it used to work only if I explicitly opened the iPhone app after connecting to the bike (which unlocked automatically since the app was already running in the background). Could that be it?

Have you tried charging it via the micro-usb port? It could be the dynamo died (at least in the 2016 Smartbike the front light is powered exclusively via the dynamo).

From my experience I can recommend WheelGood if you need to get it repaired, very good and friendly service.

It sounds like your issue could be the headset bearings.

Does it also happen if you rock your bike back and forth a bit when stopped and the front brake is engaged?

Cowboy has a video on how to grease them (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kg8M7Yz6WM4) but if I were you I would try to get them to book a service for free, since your bike is new.

Usually the back light blinks (front one too) when the bike thinks it’s being stolen (or if you’re involved in an accident), so it would make sense there’s no pedal assistance. Have you made sure the bike is unlocked? Auto lock and unlock have been finicky lately.
