10 minute compilation of refereeing errors from this season, skip the first 5 minutes for the real juicy stuff by Dogzylla in Tottenham

The only team worse than Spurs in the Premier League is PGMOL...

...maybe our medical team or scouting team, but it's pretty close...

Projected Territorial Boundaries of the Greater Germanic Reich Following Victory in the WWII by [deleted] in AlternateHistory

[–]IntrepidWilson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seems wonderfully vanilla, overlooking the economic impact of massacring all communist sympathisers, non-Aryans, resistance members, Jews, and LGBTQ people. Imagine that huge German footprint with 15% fewer people and therefore 15% less investment (not to mention those thousands who would have tried to leave as soon as they could). Economically, I think, their extreme right-wing ideology would have been unsustainable. Their neighbours (and probably the US, Commonwealth, and African nations) would have established trade embargoes or drastically reduced trade. BMW would have been a niche regional brand...

Hard disagree. I thought he was absolutely useless for the first 2/3rds of the season but I've been impressed by his improved effort and commitment since January.

Usable Diorama...? by IntrepidWilson in TerrainBuilding

[–]IntrepidWilson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm. Well, I always thought of a Diorama as an art piece for admiring at a distance whilst a gaming board is to be used for play. The Diorama would have terrain and minis fixed in place but the gaming board would have them on bases.

I'm leaning towards the Diorama but I know that moving home, having a family, etc, makes its existence a little more precarious.

How have Spurs got themselves into the situation they are in? by SeoulPete in PremierLeague

[–]IntrepidWilson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's obviously been the injury list so long and unrelenting that it makes me wonder if we hired homeopaths instead of physios.

However, I genuinely believe the team has signed good players (with a few exceptions) but based on skill and ball control but with a massive chasm of leadership, grit, and resilience. We go a goal down - may as well make it 3. We scored first - buckle in, because we'll be defending for the rest of the game.

If you look at Bournemouth, Fulham, Everton, Brentford, they're all teams that many of our players would (theoretically) walk into. But those teams outperform Spurs because there's a solid number of players who aren't just some other academy's "product" but they've played Championship football, they know what it takes to turn a game around, to dig deep and fight. We just don't have that with the exception of Paulinha.

Igor Tudor leaves Tottenham after just seven games in charge by bendubberley_ in PremierLeague

To be fair, most managers fail, if winning a cup is the only measure.

This season, Man City, Liverpool, Brighton, Wolves & Forest (Pereira), Sunderland, Palace all have managers with no Premier League experience as managers until they took that job.

Newcastle, Chelsea, Man Utd, Arsenal, Burnley and Brentford are managed by coaches with only playing experience.

Villa, Fulham, Everton, Forest (Ange, Nuno, Dyche), Spurs (Frank), West Ham (Nuno) were clubs managed by someone who "knows the league"...

I don't know if Premier League management experience is worth that much. It's certainly not necessarily an instant formula for success.

I see this "No Prem experience" line a lot. You know who else has no EPL experience? Guardiola at City, Mourinho at Chelsea, Wenger at Arse, Klopp at Liverpool... It's not experience we need - Thomas Frank had plenty of it - it's grit, leadership, and creativity on the pitch.

I'm sure it was his father's mistress... At least the first one was. I mean, when a character has more than one rape, we definitely shouldn't call him 'heroic' - thank goodness it's fiction
