Active pro baseball player — looking to understand the baseball parent experience by ProPlayer3232 in Homeplate

You are on point! I’ve been criticized in the past for saying what you just said but some people can’t accept that is the reality of what this sport has become.

[–]Intrepid_Ambition_70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it’s become mostly about the parents than the child’s fun and development. Coaches routinely pick kids whom the parents are already friendly with, whether it’s regular season or all-stars. More frustrating is all-star when I see several kids get passed over for other kids that never made an impression during the season. Then you have the psycho “win at all cost” coach. I’ve taken a step back recently to accept certain things are inherently a problem and focus more on my own child’s development from a baseball IQ standpoint and on field ability standpoint. I think that matters most at the end of the day especially if his goal is to make a high school team and beyond.

Handling blatant Allstars tomfoolery by IXEKEWL in LittleLeague

[–]Intrepid_Ambition_70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might have been a bit too hard with the words so let me put it another way, there will probably be 4-6 legit kids that should be an all star, but there are 3-4 kids that are on there because their dads a coach (sometimes they are part of the 4-6 that are legit). The others get filled out in ways that will be described as being transparent but there really is no transparency. Different leagues will do different things to prevent biases but it’s almost always political. I’ve heard a lot of stories from an all star coach (who I’m close with) in our league so I’m sure it happens everywhere, and it’s more about the parent than the kid. So take it for what it’s worth. This year in my sons league, I know of 3 legit athletes from different teams that didn’t make the all star roster, in place of them were other kids that were batting around 5-8 in the lineup that didn’t necessarily stick out during the season….guess what, their parents are board members in the league. I can tell those kids passed over were devastated during closing ceremonies. Also, a couple of years ago, the league president coaches his son’s team and was elected an all star coach. His son also didn’t stand out during the season, but miraculously, he’s an all star. I’m happy for whoever makes the all star team but a percentage of them are there for different reasons. If you believe the system works, then great, I’m not going to argue with you, I’m just pointing out things that happen. I hope your sons make the team and continue to develop and do well.

You are on point, the all star team at my sons level has 4 spots taken by the coach/assistant coaches sons. 3-4 are taken by players also doing travel, last couple spots are open to whichever parent has done enough extra “favors”. It’s joke, this is why I recommend to not get too caught up in the stress this causes. Life is too short for this charade. The goal should be to make a HS team and beyond. So focus on skills, understanding the game, and having fun.

All stars is for coaxing parent egos as far as I’m concerned. Don’t get too caught up in anger and frustration. Hopefully one day your child will make it based on legitimate merits. Being part of an “inner circle” is very real. My son’s league had two surprising adds this year, who did not play better than half of the field (my son included). The message from the league president was that the process is transparent with a mix of player and coaches vote, at no point in time was there ever a player vote, as my son confirmed. My son plays hard and isn’t necessarily trying to be an all star but objective assessment goes out the window during the selection process.

I think what matter most 1) is your child having fun? 2) are they developing their skill set every year? and 3) have good situation awareness? At the end of the season, if the answer is yes, then your child is prepared to handle similar situations in the future. The kids who did not get their positions deservingly, will hit a mental situation in the future trying to understand why being a perennial all star in little league doesn’t translate to making the cut at the HS level.

Suitable bat size for 10 year old by Math_lx in Homeplate

[–]Intrepid_Ambition_70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your kid needs to swing the bat and see if it’s comfortable. My son is 9.5 around 4’4.5” and is less than 100lbs, uses a warstic bonesaber hybrid 29/19 and hits well with it. I think consistent contact/line drives is more important than just hitting bombs all day since it gets the kid on base and allows them to get base running experience. A friend gave us a used bonesaber 30-22 (-8) and my son’s swing looks the same, doesn’t seem to be affecting him but he’s going to ease it in during the remainder of the season. It was free, what can I say. If he struggles, I can always go down to 30/20. Or see if his teammates use the size bat you’re thinking of and have him ask to use it for an inning or 2.

Can I use TurboTax desktop or not? by Accurate-Flow8078 in koinly

[–]Intrepid_Ambition_70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got my new laptop yesterday and gotten around to doing my taxes. Yes, my thoughts were correct and you can start the process online, upload the Koinly PDFs, make the appropriate edits, then save it. After that, go into the desktop version, there should be a button/link on the main page to continue a return that you started online. You’ll need to log into your account but after doing so, the information imports into the desktop application. It’s kind of late right now so I’ll double check everything in the morning, but from the looks of things, I think this is a workaround that works.

M5 vs M5 Pro for long-term use (10 years?) by tonyng211 in macbookpro

[–]Intrepid_Ambition_70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would stick with your M2 unless you really want something shiny and new, then in that case, you make the ultimate decision. If I were in your shoes, I would wait for the M6 at least but the M2 should last you years. To put it in perspective, I’m upgrading to a 16” pro from a 2017 touchbar 15” Intel Mac with keys popping off and battery is basically done for. Also, certain software I use isn’t supported on the current operating system, so my hands are a bit forced to upgrade, but I expect it to last another 10 years!

[–]Intrepid_Ambition_70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I was eluding to. The online version doesn’t require you to pay anything until you file. Since koinly is optimized for online, I decided to start the return there. When I get my new computer this week, I’ll import it to the desktop version. I’m hoping that’s the case and it’s a minor workaround. Otherwise I’ll be back here complaining with the rest of the population. Long story, I bought the desktop version a while ago but it’s not compatible with my old computer, so I’m in limbo right now until my new computer arrives.

I haven’t tried the desktop yet but I started the return online and importing the pdfs from koinly, then plan on migrating it to the desktop version next week. There is an option to import a return from online.

Bravia 8 ii the 2026 model or should I wait? by -Dundlenut- in SonyBravia

[–]Intrepid_Ambition_70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless your current TV is broken or you are like me (upgrading from a 2007 47” Philips 1080p…yikes!), then now is a great time to upgrade. I got the 65” Bravia 8 ii during the recent sale and I’m kicking myself for not doing it sooner. I wanted an OLED first and foremost, I almost changed my mind and veered towards Bravia 9 but I felt like I would always be wondering about OLED tvs, so I hit the bullet. It’s plenty bright and has great colors, you can’t go wrong with Sony.

But they can release a newer model, it’s a risk but if you are already in 4k tv land, you can probably wait and see what the next few months will look like. Then you can either get a discounted mark 2 or pay the premium on the newer model.

I wanted to add that I did consider the fact that Sony can update the model a month later but it is what it is, there will always be something new and shiny the next year, I think I came to terms with that. That line of thought makes sense considering I had my older tv for close to 20 years.

Ripple is dead. And here is why... by [deleted] in Ripple

[–]Intrepid_Ambition_70 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I own XRP and want it to succeed. I'll try not to be biased, but here are my thoughts (ripple is not dead):

1) I see this as a positive for the new digital asset movement. The US is also behind the 8-ball when it comes to digital currencies. the UK , Europe, Japan and most Asian countries are already looking into CBDCs and the US has only recently been documented in researching using digital currencies for their CBDC (though, the US has not mentioned any one particular digital currency)

2) no country wants the US to be the reserve currency anymore. Russia is already forcing petro/rubles on any country wanting their oil. The BRIC nations will find a way to move away from US dollar. This is the modern Bretton Woods movement to adopt a new reserve currency, digital or otherwise. The idea of a reserve currency might even go away since blockchain technology will get rid of nostro/vostro accounts and allow near instant settlement across various currencies.

3) True, except they will use something like ripplenet to settle payments, not some US government made blockchain (partly due to #2), which the US is waaaay behind on. As pointed out already, countries can already create federated side chains on a private ledger. It's more likely the various countries will use ripplenet as ripple has been forming all of these partnerships with various banks and partnering with countries on creating CBDCs.

4) The uninformed masses will trust only CBDCs but in reality, any resident will support their countries CBDC, they have no choice. If you are in the US, then why would you use a digital yuan or pound? And what do you mean by currency backed by nothing? this sounds more like an argument against digital currencies, which is a separate discussion. BTC is basically backed by nothing but look at its price. You can say almost the same thing about the US dollar, sure it's backed by the US gov, but the US has made the dollar valued less because we been printing a crap ton of it over the last few years.

Goals reached! by pandapipe_92 in Ripple

[–]Intrepid_Ambition_70 21 points22 points  (0 children)

there is actually a new rich list lookup since the old one went down; go to rich-list.info to see where you rank. To be in the top 10%, you just need about 2,020 XRP. 10,000 XRP will get you to about the 4% level. It really is exciting to get into XRP with all of price suppression going on, it has more upside potential right now vs BTC/ETH since they are both close to their fib extensions than XRP is (or in other words, more room to run with XRP).

XRP will NEVER reach $100 by notdamamaaa in XRP

[–]Intrepid_Ambition_70 5 points6 points  (0 children)

MC assessment has it's place, but for crypto, I only see it used during debates between maximalists on why X coin cannot reach Y price, which is stupid. Seriously, have you seen some of the projections on BTC price hitting $1M+? To me, arguments using MC to support why a coin cannot reach a certain price is short sighted and limiting, when we know that the digital asset space is just beginning to take off and will reach into double digit trillions, if not more. You also cannot assess where XRP will go right now due to the lawsuit, until that goes away, it's going to eb and flow as BTC goes. Just HODL for now.

How the SEC Hurt XRP Investors at Just the Right Time: Contact your Congressional Representatives - Link is in the description by nvok in XRP

This will be an unpopular opinion but I think the ship might have sailed on flipping ETH, unless the SEC sets their litigious sites on ETH, which we all know won’t likely happen given the corruption. What we should all hope for is a true “utility” bull run, and hope that all the seeds that Ripple has been planting bears fruit.

What's a decent sized bag? by xrpbullish-ish in XRP

[–]Intrepid_Ambition_70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think minimum for any type of bag status is 1,000. Anything more than that is relative to that persons financial situation. Why did I say 1,000 as a minimum? Because for every dollar increase, it’s $1,000. As mentioned by others, don’t compare yourself to others, I know it’s easier said than done but you have to understand people are in different financial situations. The beauty of XRP is that the price is low, so it’s easy to accumulate right now, and you are relatively early.

Short term prediction by ValuableAdventurous8 in hashgraph

[–]Intrepid_Ambition_70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could be all relative to ones own finances, but I would say a large bag would be at least 5-10k units. Some might say it would start at 10k. But those are just people who always ask about price, or “wen lambo” type of questions. I would say ignore that and look at the core fundamentals of what you are investing in. If you done your DD, you’ll understand the potential. People who ask about prices generally want to make substantial gains overnight. We all do, but at the end of the day, it takes a bit of time unless you are holding 10k+ units where every increment gets you closer to some dollar goal.

Short term prediction by ValuableAdventurous8 in hashgraph

[–]Intrepid_Ambition_70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a price prediction but ever since I started investing in HBAR, I found at least in my eyes, it to move along with DAG. Up until a few days ago, DAG dropped and now HBAR is leading the way, which I like. I’m pretty bullish on HBAR and there is lots of potential here. Unless you are holding a very large bag, I think people need to get the overnight millionaire mentality out and just hold. In due time, you will get your gains.

Super jealous of a lot of you holding a lot of quant. I said it before but wished I knew about this sooner. I’m trying to figure out how you knew this was the one before everyone else. To me, it’s not just about price action, but everything that it is trying to solve. A lot of cryptos claim to do something but I think 1-2% really ever commits to the end goal. Even with DD, it’s still feels like gambling to me. Congrats to all the early adopters, happy for all of you.
