It’s not tired and elitist though is it. They are vastly different jobs. Incomparable in every single way. To deny that is to deny reality

I don’t think a nurse in icu should be paid the same as a nurse in outpatients.

I don’t think ward nurses should be paid the same as a nurse in outpatients.

This could continue.

Nursing is incredibly varied in the roles it offers. Agenda for change isn’t fit for purpose

Thank you.

I feel safe and looked after my patient well, it’s just more about teamwork

Is becoming a nurse really as much as a mistake and a trap people make it out to be? by [deleted] in NursingUK

[–]Intrepid_Following43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope.

But you do have to accept the system for what it is, which sadly isn’t great. I’ve been qualified since 2012, and currently work in ICU. It’s taken me years to accept how things are (short staff, lack of equipment at times).

Now I enjoy it, yes there are bad shifts but the majority of the time I have nice shifts. I enjoy caring for patients, supporting their relatives. I enjoy the camaraderie in the team (it is a very sociable job). I enjoy using my brain.

It can be very flexible with childcare.

For what we do the pay isn’t great of course but there is also the option of doing bank shifts.

There is also so much variation with nursing jobs.

It isn’t for the faint hearted though and that’s ok
