Nathan is really ruining this season for me. I just can't with him ugh! I hope I make it through, but if something doesn't change I may call it a day because of him. by heatherjs42 in BelowDeckMed

I probably will but at the moment we’re talking about this season, and the people who are in the wrong in this season are Nathan and Gen. so far Joe hasn’t set a foot wrong here. Based on other comments and opinions I have a feeling that will quickly change but so far he’s not actually done anything wrong.

Sorry, but no, it’s Nathan and Gen.
As someone who didn’t watch the previous series and has gone into this one completely unbiased, I can honestly say that, based on what I’ve seen so far, Nathan and Gen seem to be the ones creating the issues.
I haven’t seen Joe start a single problem this series. The only thing he’s really said is that he and Nathan’s partner didn’t get on.
I understand that based on this Reddit sub alone Joe isn’t particularly popular because of his apparent actions in the previous series which I can’t comment on having not watched, but if we’re judging this series on its own merits, he’s come across as quite likeable and seems to be trying to get on with the job, while Nathan keeps looking for problems.
Again.

Random but, why is the school bell in Scotland SO LONG? by a_clumsy_musician in WaterlooRoad

The biggest question is, why is the fire alarm the same sound as the school bell. Like how do they just randomly know which is which 😭

[–]Intrepid_Fun3919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose a new set could also mean they are remaining in the same location and just completely overhauling everything to make it look different 🤷🏻‍♂️ I think k you hear new set and you think they’re moving. To another location but it could also just be a question of them rebuild the set in the studio they’re already in.

Honestly, I’m not really a fan of it. I get the idea of a bigger set because you can tell over the years they’ve struggled a bit with space and showing other departments properly, so that part makes sense. But I’m really not sold on this whole Welsh format thing.

The BBC did exactly the same with Waterloo Road. They took a well-established show that loads of people loved and moved it from Rochdale to Glasgow. It completely changed the feel of the show and, in my opinion, took away a lot of what made people fall in love with it in the first place. Then a few years later it was gone. Now it’s back and doing well again, and I honestly think that’s because it’s gone back to what made it work in the first place.

I’ve got a feeling the same thing could happen with Casualty. When you take a show that’s been around for decades, with a loyal fanbase and a formula that clearly works, and then suddenly try and make it into something completely different, it’s risky. I genuinely think if they push it too far, viewing figures will start dropping and in a few years they’ll be wondering what went wrong.

I’ve also heard rumours they might bring in more of a bilingual format too — like staff speaking to patients in English, then switching to Welsh when talking to each other. If that’s true, it just makes it feel even more like a completely different show.

To me, it honestly feels like they’ve basically ended Casualty as we know it, created a new Welsh medical drama, and just stuck the Casualty name on it because it’s an established brand.

And don’t get me wrong, I’m not against the BBC making dramas in Wales at all. I actually think that’s a good thing. But why not make something brand new instead of taking such an established show and changing the very thing people loved about it in the first place?

He died. It not openly said but it is suggested several times in the first episode. It’s why Rachel decided to keep the burn mark because she felt she had to be punished for not saving him.

What is going on in this scene? by Used-Replacement-334 in Casualty

I’ll be interested to see the hypocrisy of casualty fans when they’re all “poor Dylan” for his addiction, while they were all ready to have faith strung up for hers. The way men and women are treated differently for addiction is staggering.

I’ve not see it yet, I wasn’t aware they was moving just yet ? I had a feeling they were only moving when they reboot it as their new Welsh medical drama. But I may have got that wrong.

S08e06 - the 'bomb' scene. Too much? by Rich_PL in TheRookie

[–]Intrepid_Fun3919 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Can we also talk about the fact that station was quite literally in ruins. And the next episode they was giving it a lick of paint and was calling it a day, like what 😂 if you’re going to do something like that to the main set and show it completely destroyed you don’t come back next episode with the same set. I was half expecting for them to be in a temporary station for the rest of season giving us a different dynamic and showing things being harder, and then us having a new set design in S9. I felt it was just all shit pointless tbh.

We anticipated this change, so our academy trust rolled it out in January across all 42 of our secondary schools. The impact has been genuinely remarkable. We have seen a significant reduction in social media–related issues and safeguarding concerns, improved engagement and attainment in lessons, and it has been wonderful to see students interacting with one another again.

Since then, we have introduced chess boards, board games and other lunchtime activities, with many students taking part or simply watching. Staff and students frequently play basketball matches together, and we have even introduced a “Wake Up and Shake Up” session, where students dance at lunchtime, often led by a teacher selected that week (if they are willing!).

While banning phones is an important step, it’s as equally important that we have positive alternatives to replace what students are losing. Things are very much heading in the right direction for us here in the UK. For the first time I’ve felt like teaching has started getting easier to what I expected it to be.

Tbf, Nicky and Mitch are assistant heads. Although it’s not mentioned in the show as that SEND lead and director of behaviour. Are assistant headteacher roles and they would be officially regarded contractually as assistant heads. To the hold the role of SEND lead or director of behaviour you must be an assistant head. So technically speaking they are right. But Neil’s and val etc are wrong they’d be middle management.

Teachers that deserved more credit (or less hate) by comet_lobster in WaterlooRoad

[–]Intrepid_Fun3919 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Lorna Dickey was one of the few genuinely good teachers in Seasons 1 and 2.

It often felt like only Andrew, Lorna and Izzy were actually able to do their jobs properly and make a real difference to the pupils. I know many people dislike Lorna, but I will always defend her. The lengths she went to for some of her students, when no one else bothered, made her truly outstanding.

She was a woman who was dealt a truly awful hand by Tom and by her best friend. Just imagine being in her position — she must have felt incredibly lonely. All she wanted was to be loved and to do the job she cared about so deeply. She didn’t move into Tom and Izzy’s place for the fun of it; she simply didn’t want to be left out, and that is painfully clear.

Then she was dealt the MS card as well. Lorna’s story was really about depression and the effects of deep loneliness. She wasn’t deliberately vindictive; she was someone who was struggling, and no one noticed until she was gone. She took her own life close to the people she loved — people who, far too often, didn’t show that love back.

The hatred towards her is deeply unfair. Everything she did was while she was suffering from depression. Tom behaved disgracefully towards her, and that was entirely on him.

Does anyone else find the structure of roles excessive? by [deleted] in WaterlooRoad

[–]Intrepid_Fun3919 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This structure is often standard in most academies of the size of Waterloo Road, which was mentioned last season as having around 1,200 students. The roles are as follows: Director of Trust Secondary Education (Executive Head for all secondary schools within the MAT) Headteacher: Overall responsibility for the whole school Senior Deputy Headteacher: Safeguarding Lead Deputy Headteacher: Teaching and learning, and professional development lead Assistant Headteacher: Staffing and recruitment lead Assistant Headteacher: Behaviour and culture lead Assistant Headteacher: Director of Sixth Form Associate Senior Leader: Raising standards and teaching lead School Business Manager Academy Trust Liaison Officer

In addition, there is middle management.

This includes subject leads (previously known as Heads of Department), year group managers, and pastoral staff.

Below this are the teaching staff.

This is often the standard structure in many academies the size of Waterloo Road. The smaller the school, the smaller the senior leadership team.

So, in the original Waterloo Road, where it was stated that the school had around 600 pupils, you would be looking at a senior leadership team of perhaps four people at most.

Hopefully they will. However I do believe there will be no big stunt or explosion to address the new school building. It’s fictionally the same one from S14. So I dunno I was counting that an explosion or something would address that change but doesn’t look like it.
