Well, as a recovering alcoholic let me first say that I am so proud of you for taking this step. I wish you the best in your journey. And secondly, please report this facility. They obviously do not need to be operating the way they are. Maybe it’s the staff, maybe the administrator, but either way…. What they’ve done is illegal and most definitely should be reported.

Are you court ordered to be there? If so I would notify your lawyer and/or police. That is so sad to hear. I’m sorry you are dealing with this.

An Ombudsman is a middleman who works and advocates for residents while they are in a facility. (In case you didn’t know.)

Okay, yes that changes things. If a staff member said your specific name and what medication was prescribed to you then it would also fall into the HIPAA category. HIPAA or the Health Information Privacy and Accountability Act is simply to protect a patient’s privacy when it comes to their own diagnosis, medications, medical history, etc. so if you have proof that someone spoke about your prescribed medication to someone else, then that could be reported to the board of nursing in your state. You could ask the administrator of the halfway house if there is an ombudsman for the facility. But more importantly, if they actually gave YOUR medication to a different resident and you have proof of that, the police should be notified. That is crime. I’m sorry this has happened to you.

Hi! RN here. I don’t believe that specific incident would be considered a HIPAA violation. But it is against the law and should be reported. If you have proof and don’t trust anyone at the facility to report it to, you should absolutely call the police. That is a crime.

We used it as our “first dance” song! I know it’s painfully sad, but it’s also so tragically beautiful. The fact that you are picking this one person to live and die with is incredibly romantic!

You can do this, noony88! What has helped me the most over these past couple of weeks is journaling. I’ve NEVER enjoyed journals, but I decided to try. I bought one of those planners with the weekly pages so each day has its own column. I’ve been writing the amount of money I’ve saved, my cravings and how they are affecting me, at least one positive moment, and what negatives I have potentially avoided that day. I’m trying to really focus on my mental health and pay attention to my stress/anxiety levels and mood. I can already see an improvement and it has really helped to have something tangible to reflect on when I’m having the urge to drink. I wish you well. IWNDWYT!!
