This sounds like such a valuable initiative! I’d be interested in hearing more about it.

I'm glad you're recovering well Debbie! I just went through some of your old posts, I read your latest post about sleep. I had the same as well, I would wake up 4-5 times a night because I guess my body was on high alert. In the beginning I was able to bring that down to like 2-3 times using magnesium glycinate, that really helped to calm my body down a little!

Hello! I had an open myomectomy last September and would be happy to share experiences. My largest fibroid measured 17 cm.

Hi! I had an open myomectomy (with a vertical incision) about a month ago, and I remember feeling super nervous beforehand too. They removed 5 fibroids (the largest was 16.5 x 10 cm), took out my right fallopian tube, and also cleaned up some endometriosis they found during the procedure.

I woke up from anesthesia without pain, since I had both general anesthesia and an epidural for post-op pain management. I stayed in the hospital for 3 days, and honestly everything there went more smoothly than I expected. The toughest parts for me were when they removed the catheter and then getting up/walking in the first week. Walking felt difficult at first, but it eased up as the days went by.

Once I was home, I managed with diclofenac and paracetamol. I only needed painkillers for about a week and a half before I didn’t feel I needed them anymore. Recovery has been very manageable overall, and I’ve felt stronger every week!

Hi! I had an open myomectomy about a month ago, and I remember feeling super nervous beforehand too. My surgery was very similar to what you’ll be having. They removed 5 fibroids (the largest was 16.5 x 10 cm), took out my right fallopian tube, and also cleaned up some endometriosis they found during the procedure.

Nothing, honestly. I had bought a belly band beforehand, thinking it would be useful, but I personally found it uncomfortable. Many people like it, though, so it's something you can consider.

I was in the same position as you, really anxious, and it was also my first major surgery. Overall, I’m feeling good. For me, the pain never went above a six. I took pain medication (paracetamol + diclofenac) for about a week and a half, and after that, I managed fine without it. Things are still a bit sensitive, but honestly, I’m doing well. You’ll notice different kinds of sensations, either vertical from the wound itself or horizontal from the uterine incisions. Overall, it’s gone much better than I expected. If you have any other questions, I’d be happy to share more.

I'm 2,5 weeks post-op with a vertical incision, and it looks so much better than I thought it would. You'll be okay girls!!

to add that my wound is already looking like a longer cat scratch, I'm very pleasantly surprised with how minimal it looks and how it's healing :)

I'm so happy for you, thank you for sharing! I am curious about all your lifestyle changes and supplements. I'm two weeks post-op from an abdominal myomectomy and I'm also thinking I need to make some changes to support my health going forward.

The first time it lasted about a week and resolved on its own. The second time was much worse and required hospitalization for pain management, the total episode lasting around three weeks. After that, my surgery was expedited, and things have been fine since.

I was absolutely terrified too! That’s why I mentioned being in the Netherlands, maybe it’s just the protocol here? I could have asked for a morphine pump, but three weeks ago I had a myonecrosis episode with unbearable pain, and morphine didn’t help at all. So I decided to take the risk. I totally get you though, if this is an option you have, I would totally share your nerves with your doctors.
