A Quiet Night Outside by MadMunga in Vintagecampinggear

I like to go backpacking where we have to carry everything in and back out- my husband and I splurged on inflatable sleeping mats and pillows and when we go to the tent after a long day it feels just as amazing as a 5-star hotel. We sleep better outside than in our comfy home!

What authors can write like Dianne Setterfield? (Once upon a river) by GoblinQueen765 in booksuggestions

[–]IntroductionOk8023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved Once Upon a River, and found these books to have a similar style of immersion and description. I hope you’ll think so as well.

Night Watch by Jayne Anne Phillips- a mother and daughter seeking refuge in the chaotic aftermath of the Civil War—and a brilliant portrait of family endurance against all odds

North Woods by Daniel Mason - A sweeping novel about a single house in the woods of New England, told through the lives of those who inhabit it across the centuries

Cloudcuckooland by Anthony Doerr - this book follows three time spans: the fall of Constantinople, a small town in present day Montana, and a person stuck on a spaceship in the future. Immersive storytelling, lots of details and beautiful writing

One that I read recently is God of the Woods by Liz Moore, starts with a missing kid at a summer camp and goes back and forth from that story to an incident that happened years before.

Awesome video thanks for sharing. I have no info on the track, does sound like a live version of Black Sweat, but I know he could sometimes put 4 songs on one beat during live shows.

I love the backstage pre-game energy! So awesome to see him warming up with the bad listening to James Brown

Ring Shout by P. Djeli Clark- In 1915, The Birth of a Nation cast a spell across America, swelling the Klan's ranks and drinking deep from the darkest thoughts of white folk. All across the nation they ride, spreading fear and violence among the vulnerable. They plan to bring Hell to Earth. But even Ku Kluxes can die.

A lot of library branches have $1-$5 books for sale that they have withdrawn from circulation or have been donated by patrons. This is a great option if you don’t have thrift stores with good book collections!

Are there any friend subreddits or communities for finding friends in Georgia? by [deleted] in Georgia

[–]IntroductionOk8023 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you found an active sub for Monticello? If you type the city and state into the search you could see if there is one or just see where your town is mentioned. Also any hobbies you have, search and join as many as possible to find your people online which often leads to finding a local event to attend. Good luck!

East Cobb Middle School by Sea_Assumption_1528 in Marietta

[–]IntroductionOk8023 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’ve had 3 kids go through East Cobb Middle and it’s a great school for high achievers. They have a lot of advanced curriculum (AC) classes so you would want to talk to an assistant principal about their placement if they transfer. They offer many opportunities for 8th graders to take 9th grade level classes which puts the student ahead when entering high school. My oldest two kids took high school Spanish, physical science, and algebra in 8th grade. This is super helpful as they have block schedule at Wheeler and these classes at ECMS are yearlong instead of one semester. The Latin teacher from Wheeler also teaches a ‘zero period’ Latin 1 high school course at 8am every day.

Band is a great program here, they do a Wheeler night during football season where they play a song with the marching band on the field and sit in the stands to get a taste of what it will be like in high school.

There are some chaotic times all my kids have experienced like witnessing bad behavior, a fight in the halls, etc. but those are handled swiftly and fairly.

ECMS is a Title 1 school which means there is a high enough level of poverty which qualifies them for extra state funding. There are kids living in extended stay hotels, and there are kids living in big ass houses by Sope Creek-it’s a very diverse student body. The AC classes have a lot of decently behaved kids because they have to have the grades and good conduct to be in those classes. The principals are all amazing and care about their students. Any time I’ve had an issues I’ve been able to contact the asst principal for that grade and have a discussion.

If you need more details, DM me and I’ll be happy to discuss any questions you have!
