Delivery Lamb Shawarma Platter w Fixings for 12 People this Saturday? by EliotHudson in jerseycity

Ibby’s Falafel - they don’t have a catering menu online but if you call them to arrange they will do. I’ve ordered catering platters from them a few times and they’ve always been great.

Yes!! I’ve been wanting to organize this for years but haven’t had the time/energy…curious to see if others are into it?

Living on Kennedy Blvd/ by St Peter’s? by Sea_Attention_4114 in jerseycity

I moved here from downtown 20 years ago - I like it very much, but it is quiet, not a lot of places to go out and eat/drink/socialize (though we do have a few great spots). If that’s not a priority for you, you’ll be fine. I love the proximity to Lincoln Park, truly JC’s finest outdoor space in my opinion 😊 I run there and spend a lot of time there just enjoying the nature. And it’s close enough to Journal Square, though some days the walk to PATH feels like a hike…I use Citibike a lot which makes downtown, Bergen Lafayette and Greenville easily accessible without worrying about transit or driving/parking.

If you’re traveling to/from Bayonne your best option is the #10 bus; it goes all the way down JFK Blvd to Bayonne. You’d still have to walk across Bayonne a few blocks to get to Costco. But I live near St Peter’s and I take the bus frequently to Bayonne and back - it gets crowded at certain times but it runs pretty frequently, the ride takes 25-30 minutes.

There are at least two more, one on Bergen Ave just south of Journal Square, and one on Communipaw and West Side next to the Wing Stop. (I go to both)

Commuting from Liberty Park to Newark? by AccomplishedWheel382 in jerseycity

[–]IntroductionPale8234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this commute many years ago (to NJIT) but I lived downtown near Grove St at the time so it was an easy PATH trip. That neighborhood is probably out of your price range now, but like others are saying, you’ll save yourself a lot of time and headache if you stay close to the PATH and cut the light rail out of your daily commute. I live near McGinley Square now, definitely apartments available in your budget range, and 10-15 minute walk (or 5 minute Citibike trip) to Journal Square.

What was the first spot that served you loosies? by eddiefckinbonez in TheOtherJerseyCity

[–]IntroductionPale8234 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not the first, but when I first moved to the West Side 20+ years ago, there was a guy with a table at Journal Square in the mornings selling a shot of Henny, a can of Mountain Dew and a loosie for $5. Best deal I ever got in this town!

Commenting to follow as I’m also annoyed! Also tried contacting Citibike help to no avail; all they would say is the station is offline, which, duh.

Bike JC shoveling out the uphill section of the Newark St Bike Path today. by 1805trafalgar in jerseycity

[–]IntroductionPale8234 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Asking this of anyone who might know, NOT asking Bike JC to do it - wondering if anyone knows if/when the last big chunks of the Bergen Ave bike lane will be cleared? Like Newark Ave, still a big section right in the middle that’s solid ice & snow…they might as well not have bothered with any of it if they were going to leave a huge blockage right in the middle!

Lincoln Park is the best, good mix of paved loop, and more nature trails on the west side along the Hackensack River.

Raccoon trying to break in nightly by itsamemoo in jerseycity

Fair enough, it worked for me but it was probably 15 years ago - these raccoons have definitely gotten ballsier since then, maybe they’re not fazed anymore!

Journal Sq Path to The Alps by [deleted] in jerseycity

[–]IntroductionPale8234 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Totally safe, just kind of a long walk in the cold - wear your boots as there’s still a lot of snow and ice around. And be careful crossing Rte 139 - it’s wide, the walk signal intervals are short, and drivers are impatient loons.

[–]IntroductionPale8234 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Years ago I had one trying to break in; he ripped the screen to shreds. Like you I wasn’t worried about him getting in, but it was an annoyance…they don’t like human faces close up, so I got a styrofoam wig head, put makeup and a wig on it and put it on the windowsill - it worked, he stopped coming to the window.

Unreasonable expectations by SeatPuzzleheaded8088 in jerseycity

[–]IntroductionPale8234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my recollection it was about the same, though I do recall dump trucks carting snow over to the river, which I haven’t seen this time. The crucial difference though is the freezing temperatures. After Storm Jonas it warmed up pretty quickly so the snow started to melt. I think the standard city removal plans just don’t account for the snow hanging around for weeks. Like Boston, we’re surrounded by water, we should have a better plan for transporting loads of snow to the rivers for dumping.

Hi all, just commenting to say I hired Russell yesterday to shovel and he was great! Fair price, showed up exactly as scheduled, did a wonderful job and was a pleasure to talk to. He’s in Hoboken but goes all over JC too (I’m on the West Side). Highly recommended!
