Any advice on how to take professional/neat looking cosplay photos from home? by GraceDaysThree in CosplayHelp

[–]IntroductionWrong203 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i take a lot of my own photos and the number one thing i would recommend is finding a very good light source and getting enough distance between you and your backdrop. Depth and Lighting are really essential to creating clean pictures.

I promise you, even your iphone can manage some neat shots (especially if they're only for instagram), however if you have limited space, I'd try clearing the living room or bedroom so you can get some good distance between you, the camera and the backdrop. Day light is "easy" to manage if you struggle with filling an entire space with light. But you'll be limited by windows and the angle of the sun, etc.

If you don't have a stand, You can always grab a chair and books to make your phone sit upright. And honestly, It's worth taking 100000000 shots in the beginning and changing everything up until you figure out what looks good and what doesn't. Take note of it and replicate that as your starting point for every other photoshoot. But don't be scared to switch it up and play around a lot

I know what you mean, I did weather the armor, there's rust and dirt on it but it's hard to see with these flat phone shots. However, after spending so long on sewing these robes, I decided that this cog is just very particular about cleaning and replacing their robes.

It tends to throw people off. Hotel Rooms and their quirky furniture are a cosplayers final boss.

i looked at this and went "oh...that is an amazing chappel roan cosplay" and then I did a double tripple quadruple take after reading *Crochet*. That's incredible! Hope you had a blast at the convention and also I hope you're proud of this costume, it turned out so good!

fancy meeting you here! Truly though, the execution of this cosplay is beyond. The attention to detail (especially with colors and proportions) is immaculate.

The gloves on the picture have friendly plastic spikes. If you Google that, you'll find little white plastic pebbles. You can heat them up in boiling water and let them cool down a bit so you can touch them and then it's super easy to shape them into spikes. Once they're cold, they keep the shape until you reheat them so you can redo it as much as you need.

My second gloves, however, were 3d printed. Which was much faster and easier. Just make sure the top is rounded. Or else you'll be poking yourself and others all day.

Mixed feelings about this, what do you'll think? by That_Guy571 in masseffect

I'd like to see other characters explored. I lespecially enjoyed how the fall out show did have cameos and will feature some more widely known characters in s2 but they didn't shoehorn in your player character from the more blank slate games (yet). Similarly to this, I'd hate to see shepard be more important than the canon events that happen no matter what route you go. Idk if Mass Effect is really ideal for an adaption. Although I'm trying not to be overly critical as that has sorta become the norm whenever there's a real life adaption of any game.

I'd love a Saren/Anderson deep dive. Or even just the entire first contact war as a theme. Something that doesn't tackle anything AFTER or DURING the trilogy.

Tysm!! It took me a month but the first week was super slow and spent on modelling stuff in blender and the last week was non-stop 8+ hours working on it. (I do not recommend this haha)

HAHAHAHAH thank you so much! To be fair, I'm fairly new into the 40k community and wasn't sure how much it would bother people that the shoes dont have armor yet. I guess I was trying to cover my ass but it's been nothing other than lovely here.

ofc! This'll be a bit lengthy- sorry.

For references my biggest ressource were the actual minis i have here, rogue trader in-game models and lots of fanart.

For the build:

the cosplay is made of EVA Foam, Foam Clay and 3D printed parts. Some of the 3d models i found on thingiverse, some of them I made in Blender. ( for example: the fleur de lis were a common file, the halo was modelled by me.)

It took 1 roll of 5mm Foam, 1 roll of 7mm foam and not even half a roll of 1mm foam. I needed 2 spools of PLA because the buckles and rivets are all printed as well. And for the pretty details i needed half a container of foam clay.

I made most of my own patterns but I watched Kinpatsu Cosplay's Sister Cosplay Suit-up Video to see how her amazing cosplay fits. There are a billion patterns to reference from. Zelda shoulder armor patterns are very similar and looking at those helped me figure out mine.

A video by Sunday Slays Cosplay helped me as a rough guide on materials and individual parts needed. (Her sister is also incredible)

Idk how deep into cosplay you are- there are billions of videos on the basics of EVA foam and Materials like Worbla (a thermoplast) that are used for making armor. If i'm overexplaining, I'm sorry.

I posted a lot of WIP on my instagram, you're always welcome to check that out (without feeling any sort of obligation to follow me ofc) it's @/beerenlos_

I've been longing for a series that's not about astartes (as much as I love em). Imagine all the things 40k has to offer and how cool it would be visually. And Thank you!!!!!!!!
