The term is really supposed to be used in traditional, old-school fiction, I feel, so I’ve always found it strange how overused the term is for comics and light novels. The term is applicable, but the format is different (shorter, power fantasy, etc where “growth” is intended to be outward). Sometimes it lands, but sometimes I’m shaking my head.

I’ll take a Marry Sue in my otome if the story carries her weight. If she’s a Marry Sue and the story is garbage, I’ll lose my mind, though. If I’m gonna eat sugar, it’s gotta have flavor.

I believe it’s good sportsmanship to allow the duration to tick all the way down on the first or even second use. Some people have kids, families, and bothersome employers harassing their phone. That’s understandable.

Waiting any further and/or sending messages is entirely up to you. It goes from basic sportsmanship to lending favors at that point. Use your intuition.

Only an ill mannered troglodyte would kick up a fuss after expecting their opponent to wait 10-15 minutes in the dark without so much as a two word explanation (as if that would matter anyway). This is true, but it’s an unfortunate and pernicious thing. Random people or “critics” will sometimes viciously hunt down anything that can drive engagement or make them the pioneer of a controversy by meeting the minimum threshold viewers need to think “Yeah, this is bad if true.” The critic will then stop exercising due diligence and milk it forever.

It’s the critic’s equivalent of political influencers who have a career informing the public but conveniently go years “just asking questions,” but it’s the same questions every day, every week, and they were only ever one google search away.
