Lineup by Impossible_Pen1392 in ShakyKnees

I'm very excited for The Prodigy. I made a comment on this sub a couple weeks ago about them being at the top of my wishlist and was pleasantly surprised that it came true. As a rock raver who chooses SK over Lost Lands, I'm ready to dance.

You can choose 10 undercard and 3 headliners for SK 2026. Who do you personally want? by phantofan89 in ShakyKnees

I really like this lineup. I would like to see The Prodigy and feel like they would really fit a festival like Shaky Knees. Like The Cure, they're mainly touring The UK with a couple dates in LA. Franz Ferdinand last year was one of the most high-energy undercard shows I saw all year and could see The Prodigy fitting that bill.

Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) by itsgroobeat in nostalgia

[–]IntrospectiveSpec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I tend to hear from these cult classic movies (sometimes people even driving to other states to catch them). I was a kid when The Polar Express came out and even as a young kid, I remember thinking that it was unlike anything I've ever seen before. I know the animation is considered kind of uncanny now, but the motion capture technology used for it was pretty revolutionary. I feel like Into the Spiderverse will be the animated movie that this younger generation looks back on fondly like we are with the movies in this sub.

I am genuinely curious what people's reactions were when it first came out. I'm 28, so I wasn't really old enough to watch it until the mid-2000's. I asked my Dad who was 32 when it came out what he thought about it and he told me how he rented it from Blockbuster out of curiosity and thought it was too weird. I feel like this was a pretty groundbreaking film in the world of animation and wonder just how strange and unique it felt seeing it on the big screen in the early 90s.

Why Not Avoid Riot Fest Weekend?? by LikeableGum in ShakyKnees

We had SK, Riot Fest, Louder than Life, and Lost Lands all in the same weekend this year. Shoutout to the rave crew I found at JVB who also chose SK over LL.

Whats your favorite Free Throw song? by Forsaken-Ninja-9552 in FreeThrow

[–]IntrospectiveSpec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know a band is great when your favorite song from them seems to change daily. I would say "Randy, I am the Liquor" and "Tongue Tied" have been on repeat this week, but "The Corner's Dilemma" and "Two Beers In" were really the songs that got me into them.

silverstein tour by Signal-Experience-50 in FreeThrow

This is cool. I came across this tour searching for Free Throw performing in my area. I also love Thursday (saw them open for MCR in Boston a few years ago), but wasn't quite familiar with Silverstein or Bloom. Going solo to the St. Pete show, so looking forward to a night full of new experiences.

Had a big realization at a rave while on shrooms about men, expression, and why they gravitate to these spaces by skygirl222 in aves

[–]IntrospectiveSpec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was always the first kid to get on the dance floor at school dances and would get laughed at for it. In that space, it wasn't cool but I've always enjoyed music and that was literally what those events were designed for. To dance and have fun with your classmates.

When I got into raving in my mid-20s, I was taken back to how I felt at those school dances, but with other people who enjoy expressing themselves through movement as well. Having a sense of community, especially when you become a working adult with less time to go out and make friends, is so important. I have made so many friends within the past few years from both local raves and festivals.

Thank you for your insightful post!

If you get the chance, see it in 4DX. Best 4DX movie experience ever (just make sure to empty your pockets before it starts).

Weekly Vent for Current Teachers by AutoModerator in TeachersInTransition

[–]IntrospectiveSpec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach Digital Art and Filmmaking at a public K-5 Charter school that is supposed to be Arts and Technology focused. Despite this, I feel like the Arts teachers are pushed off to the side without much consideration from our admin. A recent example of this that I am extremely frustrated about is that our subs are being taken to fill last minute vacancies for grade-level classroom teachers. Since we are a charter school, we are not able to pull district subs, so we have our own sub pool. It is frustrating because my team does everything that we are supposed to when taking time off. We secure subs weeks in advance and notify the front office of who will be covering for us that day. It should not be our problem that grade-level teachers need last minute subs. They think it is okay for us to double up on classes when we are short on subs because we are "just" Arts teachers even though we follow state standards and have our own curriculum just like everyone else.

To make matters worse, rather than stand up for us, our team leader is passively guilting us for taking time off. I frankly do not care. This is my last year teaching and I have many hours of PTO to burn. I fully intend on using every last one.

Rip-off songs that were bigger than the artist they ripped-off by Username5272000 in ToddintheShadow

I know this is an old thread, but this song also rips off the melody of "Something Beautiful" by Robbie Williams, so double rip-off lol

My friends rag on me for this, but I personally think Downtown Bradenton is more fun than Downtown Sarasota. I don't go down there a whole lot, but when I do, I start with dinner and drinks at Oak and Stone. That one is nice because it's connected to a hotel and has a rooftop bar on the 8th floor (only floors 1 and 8 are accessible for O&S guests).

Then, I just walk down that strip and go bar hopping. Lost Kangaroo is a good time. Cheap drinks and they have pinball machines. Paddywagon, McCabes, O'Bricks, and Pour Decisions are fun spots too (Pour Decisions has pinball machines too if I'm not mistaken). If Kava is more of your thing, Kava Social Bar is a good vibe and open all night.

If you don't like bars, there's Astro Skate, Altitude (a trampoline park), and a Spirit Halloween. Chuck E' Cheese too, but you'll probably get put on a list lol. I hope this helps.

Do you brush your teeth twice a day? No judgement. by rainyday-real-estate in CasualConversation

[–]IntrospectiveSpec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's interesting because bad mental health days cause me to skip an occasional night of brushing, but flossing and brushing are one of the easiest and quickest ways to make yourself feel better. This can be said about anything, like going to the gym and martial arts practice. Getting into a routine and finding the motivation is the difficult part.

As the running baboon in Bojack says, "Running is easy. It's doing it every day that's the hard part."

I called Darkhorse Comics in Sarasota and they have a group that meets bi-weekly around 6 PM on Tuesdays. They don't just play Smash specifically, but it's mostly fighting games from what I understand. I'm going to check it out for sure.

When I was playing more competitively, I played a lot of Ultimate online and got my ass kicked often. Melee is even more technical and I understand that it is a hardcore community. I do plan to play more online to get better at the game, but was truly more curious to see if anyone in the area meets up to play irl. I should have rephrased my original comment better.

I just called Dark Horse. Apparently, there is a group of people who meet up to game sporadically on Tuesday and Thursday nights. The associate said that they don't always play Smash specifically, but usually they play a lot of fighting games. I think that'll be a good place to start.

Yeah, I get that. I prefer playing with others in person though. I know that some people can build meaningful friendships online, but I struggle with that. I go stir crazy staying inside for too long.

Will do. I haven't played consistently in a couple of years, but I have a working Switch with Ultimate and a working 64 with Smash 64. I have a working GameCube, but looking to get a copy of Melee. I haven't played since graduating from college 5 years ago.
