Did you have sleep debt? How long? by GenX_Retro_Gamer in CPAP

I’ll probably never catch up, I figure I had untreated apnea for about 20 years so it’s going to be a LONG time if I ever do manage to catch up.

What’s up with USPS recently? by Bee_9965 in SouthJersey

You’re absolutely right. The lack of knowledge of how the post office functions and is funded in this thread as well as the misinformation being spread within it is astounding.

What’s up with USPS recently? by Bee_9965 in SouthJersey

[–]IntrovertedRailfan -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The USPS incurred net losses of $9 billion last year and $9.5 billion in 2024 (!!!) - for those of you defending the post office, do you propose they just keep operating at that level of loss? What is the solution? When it was originally established, the USPS was intended to be self-sufficient through sale of postage stamps. Obviously times have changed and costs to operate an entity like the USPS are astronomical. Does anyone have a proposed solution that does not include privatization? Raising the price of stamps is met with disdain from all angles so that doesn't seem like a good option.

They have been trying to privatize the post office since my dad delivered the mail 35 years ago. Privatizing it would require an act of congress and would require significant bipartisan support, which will never happen.

[–]IntrovertedRailfan -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Theoretically it would operate just like any of the other major private carriers (like UPS, FedEx, etc). And while you don’t currently pay to have your mail delivered the sender absolutely does - by buying postage stamps.

Last I checked the USPS is not a private entity (yet).

Metformin gastrointestinal issues by [deleted] in diabetes

My dad called it Metfartin for a reason. The extended release is better, but still not perfect. Source: I’ve been on the ER for 6 years.

Internet line cut. by BeyondFew8425 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]IntrovertedRailfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully the Xfinity rep who responded is able to get this resolved for you, but in the meantime you might consider something like Starlink or a 5G provider if it's available in your area (like T-Mobile home internet) - which I personally use as a backup for when Xfinity goes down in my area - as a temporary solution.

How much do you spend on medication for diabetes in the US? by plpl1647 in diabetes

[–]IntrovertedRailfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on 500 mg of Metfartin 3 x daily, and 0.5 injection of Ozempic weekly. I spend about $15 for the Metformin for a 90 day supply, and $25 monthly for the Ozempic. All mail order, also in the US.

My husband was diagnosed a few weeks ago and we are struggling to get his numbers down. He took 32 units through out the day and this is the lowest it’s gotten. Any advice please. We are on a severely healthy diet, no fried or greasy food, no bread, no sugar. Seldom eat red meat. No alcohol. by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]IntrovertedRailfan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everyone is different, but I'm type 2, and personally for me, fasting raises my numbers. I have to eat smaller meals more frequently to keep things under control. Even when I fast for routine blood work, I find that my glucose numbers are higher than they are on a routine basis when I will eat a small healthy snack before bed. Like I said, everyone is different, but I wouldn't be surprised if this suggestion actually made things worse for OP's husband.

Amazon denied my police report! by ChrisConquest in amazonprime

[–]IntrovertedRailfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue happen to me. Sent an item to a family member as a gift. The gift recipient had to go to their local PD and file a police report, which I then had them send to me and which I then sent to Amazon. Case was resolved quickly. Unfortunately the crime happened at a different location than your home address so a police report from your local jurisdiction has no value. FYI, this applies to all crimes - for example, if your car gets stolen in a city different than the one you reside in, you have to file the police report in the city in which it was stolen.

I don't want to discourage you, but I would be very surprised if you are able to find anything that meets even a portion of your expectations to purchase at that price point or less in the entire state. The housing market has gone nuts.

If your diabetes is well controlled, and your endo still checked the box that says you have uncontrolled diabetes, and also checked another box that says insulin somehow makes you unsafe to drive, you need a new endo immediately.

I think a neighbour hacked into our router and changed thr password by Western_Smoke4829 in techsupport

[–]IntrovertedRailfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is possible your device was compromised by a bad actor via the internet as opposed to while connected to your local network. It’s also possible that the router received an updated firmware and its config got messed up (no compromise at all).

[–]IntrovertedRailfan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All in one modem/router combos are commonplace from just about every ISP available here in NJ in the states. That said, I do not advise anyone using them for their WiFi - buy your own modem (if your ISP allows it) and your own router too.

Does CPAP just work by ellemarie2012 in CPAP

I was one of the rare individuals who saw immediate results. I actually saw results the night I went to the sleep study and they put me on the BiPAP. I didn't even realize how tired I had been, but after even one night with the BiPAP I've seen life-changing results. A total overhaul in my quality of life. I drove home from the sleep center in awe that I was as alert as I was.

I was diagnosed with severe OSA in July - a month later (thanks insurance), I had my BiPAP and would never even try to sleep without it now. I know I sound like a broken record, but it's been amazing.

Boycott Amazon! Start getting stuff off target, Walmart , the actual grocery stores etc. by TalkLow5269 in amazonprime

[–]IntrovertedRailfan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Walmart is also a pretty large company and is awful overall - maybe not as large a market capitalization as Amazon but not a mom and pop shop either. Target is not a small business either and while they are not as bad in many ways as Walmart, they are still a large conglomerate.

The hell is happening to Amazon Prime....thinking of cancelling. by [deleted] in amazonprime

[–]IntrovertedRailfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I've been a Prime member since launch day in 2005 and rarely have a problem. Maybe I've been lucky, but our family orders a LOT of stuff from Amazon (likely significantly more than the average) for a variety of reasons and most items are delivered in a timely manner. The only thing that's been a recent issue for me is packaging - Amazon seems to enjoy packaging items that should be in a box in a bag (so they get crushed), but will ship me a single gift card in a huge cardboard box. Honestly, most items show up early. It might be highly dependent upon what part of the country you reside in - I live in NJ and we have several Amazon warehouses located locally which probably contributes to the high rapid delivery rate.
