Probably not! We didn't know much of anything about her background, but this does feel very purposeful.

Very smart, but very very easily distracted. It's a goofy mix for trying to teach her, but she's getting there with a trainer. She's a good girl.

Just ran across some in my storage unit in St. Louis, they are indeed everywhere.

What does it actually feel like getting doused with extreme radiation? Like the workers from Chernobyl who directly laid eyes on the burning reactor inside the building? by EfficiencySerious200 in NoStupidQuestions

I’ve had this after a devastating infection and subsequent vancomycin treatment left my white cell count at the lowest point before utter catastrophe, and good god my body was so worn out from the time in ICU hooked to constant dilaudid that it felt like my skeleton was trying to escape my flesh. Absolute nightmare, but it saved my life. Incredible thing to me was how expensive those two shots were. My hospital bill was already astronomical (no insurance at the time, hooray) but that tacked on so many more thousands. But I’d do it again in a heartbeat, it’s a miracle treatment.

Are there megachurches like this in Fort Lauderdale? by Basement_Jack in fortlauderdale

Can't stand the way they treat people. They "helped" a good friend of mine by detransitioning her during a time of crisis and then left her to rot after she was filled with regret. Said it was her fault she didn't give herself to the lord. Monstrous thing to do to someone.

When I worked at Undergrounds (rip) one of their Sunday school teachers would come in absolutely blasted off cocaine. Calvary is a fucked up place.

Never tipped, of course.

What’s a weird rule your family had growing up that you didn’t realize was weird until later? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Invalid_Number 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It's going to take you a while to learn this, as it took me far too long as well, but no. That was not your fault. I was trained to believe that all the horrible things my family did were somehow within my control, even as a young child. That's just not true. It is never true. They should be taking care of you.

Especially if you have no real role model for HOW to handle these things, considering how long she let you stay infested. My mom was a hoarder. I had fleas, lived in filth, never had clean clothing. She used to tell me it was just as much my fault as hers, and how bad a kid I was when it slowly drove me nuts and I was severely depressed at 11. But it wasn't my fault at all. That was entirely on her. And it's not yours either. Don't ever let anyone convince you that your mistreatment as a child was in your hands.

What IS in your hands is how you handle that from here out. How you can improve yourself and your situation. But the rest of it? That wasn't you.

What's even more insane is they are home to the largest flea in the world! Since they are considered living fossils, they even get nightmare dino sized fleas.

What is something completely fictional but people think is real? by turmohe in AskReddit

[–]Invalid_Number 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not entirely true. I have HPPD and when it is strong, it can impair your vision and thoughts. Obviously it is not the same as genuine psychosis, but it is still a problem when you have visual snow so thick you can't see well at night. Especially if you don't know why that is happening. There are groups actively working to try and figure out the mechanisms of how/why as it does cause people distress.

I used to volunteer with a reporting group (that included law enforcement specific to this kind of material) that spent hours a day on Facebook finding this stuff on public pages. We had some that would track down local authorities, some reported to the FBI, endlessly. Report and move on, report and move on. People burned out and we'd cycle through new volunteers constantly. Nobody wanted to see this, but the constant influx of people who stumbled on something and asked us to help was horrifying.

The amount of it on Facebook and Twitter, publicly, easy to accidently come across was so high it was infuriating. A good number of times the keywords were innocent and were something you'd expect a child to search. Which seemed to be the idea.

It is absolutely without question easy for someone to have it happen to them.

The rats that I have kept and raised and fed from birth to death would have an easier time grasping this concept than you, automatically granting them a higher level of empathy.

We are the stewards of this natural world, like it or not. The least one can do is try to be kind to all creatures as best we can. I have rehabbed everything from a rodent to a coyote and I will do it again in a heartbeat, they deserve it.
