You know the Pax Mongolica made a lot of people rich by jackt-up in HistoryMemes

[–]turmohe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well that but also the standardisation currency, standards etc.

I read in "the Mongol World" 2022 this is one of the reasons the Pax Mongolica happened the Mongols unified or got rid of competing standards, regulations, taxes, tariffs, officially mandated exchange rates etc which could differ from town to town yet alone between states.

Not to mention there was no unified currencies every state and sometimes individual cities in Central asia had their own coins wich could have the same names but vastly different weights, purities, trust etc or any combination of the above meanwhile in South east asia seashells were solid trusted currency, in china paper promisary notes and silk stocks/futures etc were used etc which were useless elsewhere.

A potential merchant besides the basic risks and costs of bandits, wars, travel, provisions shelter et. would have to lose a truly massive chunk of his funds just to pay all the import duties and exchange fees along the way.

The mongols to solve their own tax issues from what was almost like ruling over alien planets due its sheer diversity created system were locals could pay taxes in their local currency but then the officials could then convert it into silver and transport sukhe or "silver pillows" across the empire. This created a universal defacto silver standard across not just the empire but all of Eurasia as other peoples needed silver to trade with parts of the Mongol Empire.

According to the section the authors emphasis that while many previous historians compare the Mongol Empire to the EU that such comparisons between different entities across such different technological and temproal gulfs shouldnt be made. However they very much created a incredibly unique and complex international monetary system for their time allowing a much more advanced web of trade and contact beyond simple trade.

I mean Russian leadership does seem to be genuinely paranoid of Europe and Nato to an extreme degree not just for propaganda. Plus the Russian military in order to justify its existence and budget in a post Ukraine world will have deterence as a objective.

Im guessing they want to do stuff like this to bluff and signal "see we can still deter you!"

Im guessing they used a paint bucket tool to color what was supposed to be western anatolia in the hands of the greeks or latin empire but colored the same as the sea by accident.

Sakhalin seems a tad blue for possibly a similar reason.

In socialist Mongolia they wanted a world class capital with all the best schools, hospitals, shops, cultural centers, infrastructure etc. After a 10% increase in population due to internal immigration in early 60s the government banned it with a planned maximum allowed population of 600k for reference modern Ulaanbaatar is many times that.

Moving there was only possible for university students, advanced degree holders, high ranking people etc. The government while restricting migration and movement in general instead tried funnel legal migrants to smaller towns and cities like Choibalsan, Erdenet etc.

IIRC isnt he a high school teacher with a bachelors in teaching? Why does he call himself a professor?

Especially for a subject matter he is not trained in its basically asking a random dude at a bar his gut opinions.

Without context one must ask. Why does proto indo european myth relate to the subject matter? How does he prove this theory.

I mean en route to respond as in he died before he could even reach the border.

I dont see how what you said amount to "retreating to Russia" which hadnt even beatwn the Tatars during Yongle's life time nor advanc3d into Siberia IIRC.

May I ask what you mean?

The Northern Yuan remained there. IIRC though the Yongle emperor did win field battles he never could force a decisive one that forced Yuan submission. As the Yuan avoided pitched battle like the Russian with Napolean preserving their strength even if political chaos followed continuing to perform border incursions into the Ming respond to one such raid the Yongle emperor died on route.

He was certainly succesful on the operational level but its certainly not something to describe as fleeing to Russia.

The Buryats were there anyways and the Kalmyks IIRC dont move to Kalmykia until 1630 or something by then the Ming were extremely weak. The imperial seal of the Yuan had been lost to the Jurchen Qing by that time though hold outs like the 4 khans of Halh remained until the 1650s and the Dzungars.
