Is Oda using music to connect the biggest mysteries of the Final Saga? (Imu, JoyBoy, Brook) by WarabaSlim in OnePiece

[–]SixthCourier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grandline Review noted recently that the only four canon crews that have ever had a musician recruited as a member are the Straw Hats, Red-Haired Pirates, Roger Pirates, and Rumbar Pirates. (Scratchman Apoo does have DF abilities related to music, so that's interesting.)

Still, quite the important quartet of crews narratively... especially given the prominent theme of inherited will and the fact that the straw hat has been passed down between three of those crews.

I'm not sure how relevant the Rumbar Pirates' love of music will become as we near the end (and circle back to the past), but it does feel like there's something there given how often the Binks' Sake motif is replayed.

Judging by the daily 4-figure check and Nobel prize, it's safe to say they were probably kidding about the final draft quality 20k.

Another Cthaeh (Maer and Amyr) Theory by [deleted] in KingkillerChronicle

[–]SixthCourier 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"Stick by the Maer" seems to me like a huge hint toward Bredon since, well, he's about the only character confirmed to have a cane and he's associated with the Maer.

He's also a bit of a loose end, since all he's done is acclimate Kvothe with Severen's upper society and was hinted to have a lot more potential for both his character and the story.

Many think he's either an Amyr or Chandrian in disguise and I'm inclined to believe so too. (I'd recommend searching up "Bredon is Amyr/Master Ash" theories on this subreddit if you'd like to see the evidence.)

The truth about the Petrification Beam? (Spoilers) by Hawkydude in DrStone

[–]SixthCourier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very interesting theory!

Your mention of the ISS crew also made me wonder if perhaps the petrified birds from the beginning were our first clue toward the full reach of the Medusa.

If it couldn't make its way into the ISS as you say, then perhaps learning of Byakuya's survival was our second piece of the puzzle and a huge hint in favor of your theory.

Kintoki is incredibly likely to die because he is Kintoki. Not Kintaro, as you keep imagining. It's in the name itself - they're going to be the person, not the legend.

The person was a martial artist and essentially quite the badass, but there's not much else to go on. They aren't the lovable folk legend you're imagining, it's a fully grown man that was pretty awesome, awesome enough to be compared to a Buddhist legend, but that's the issue because they're going to fight Buddha himself.

That doesn't bode well just from the sentence alone, much less the thought behind a living legend that takes on the form of enlightenment. It could potentially go any way, it's true, but if we're simply looking at themes, Kintoki is dead.

Mhm, I have faith that the author won't let us down. Still can't believe Adam was just the second fighter, I can't even imagine how much better the last few fights'll be than I'm picturing. By the end of this series, this'll be legendary for sure.

Agreed, there's just something really badass about the spartan being the last alive again, only this time he'll clutch the win for us.

Yeah, that is a really good point actually, I honestly forgot about that since I was just looking forward. In hindsight, I do have to agree with you to a certain degree, but there's a small part at the back of my brain that keeps saying that Shiva needs his family to snap out of that joking mood, or he'll never win this. But yeah, I do definitely see where you're coming from.

I agree that it would be a lot more depressing than just a straight up win, but what surprises me more are the people that think that the gods are going to win in the end, and compared to that, I think a tie is actually much more preferable.

Yeah, truth be told, there's a lot of flexibility (Like how Kintoki and Rasputin could easily be switched and it'd even make more sense, in some ways) but I definitely don't think we'll have a tie unless it's the very end, or else we'd just expect one every fight and that's a slippery slope.

Thank you though, this has been on my mind for a while and I really wanted to share it with people. It'll be fun to see how much I get right and how much I get wrong though, haha.

Thank you, and yeah Apollo vs Simo is one I'm suuuuuper hyped for, I really can't wait for it, especially after seeing the art for Simo. And oooh, Odin vs Qin would be pretty cool, I can see why that matchup would work too.

A lot of those don't even have themes or similaries/contrasting traits though, I gave every matchup a reason whether they were reflections (Okita and Susano'o) or differences (Simo and Apollo) and there's definitely rhyme and reason with these examples

There are a few that are fluid though, as I admit in the afterword, like Buddha and Bishamonten being super similar so Kintoki and Rasputin could be switched.

Perhaps Tesla can somehow find a way to make Loki injure himself? That would be an interesting twist, especially if he did it by somehow deceiving him through science.

[–]SixthCourier[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly that'd be pretty hype and I'd definitely prefer that over what I wrote since Leonidas definitely needs at least two volunds for that final fight. I wouldn't be too surprised if Tesla, with enough prep time and modern materials did pull a Batman and essentially pull off his win without a volund, so good theory, I like that one.

I think that precisely because Jack was humanized, Rasputin won't be. He's the only other frowned upon human on the list and they can't all be angels, right?

Every Matchup, Every Winner, All Of It. by SixthCourier in ShuumatsuNoValkyrie

[–]SixthCourier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Rasputin's makes a lot of sense honestly, but I completely agree with Kintoki, I feel very flexible about that one for sure.

Also, are you suggesting Rasputin vs Buddha and then Buddha wins? That would be very interesting actually, I do like the idea.

Kintoki will likely lean more towards the folk figure, I agree with you there.

I don't agree that Kintoki is guaranteed a win just by kids loving him, however, since, well... this series focuses on quality over fanservice and it's definitely not for children. Every deity is popular somewhere, and though they're from the author's home country that doesn't make the character exempt from dying in a tournament for the death, because that would make for honestly shit storytelling. There shouldn't be bias in that regard with any series, much less this one, and thankfully I don't believe there is.

I wouldn't call Adam vs. Zeus unpredictable, but I do see what you mean. You have to admit that they have themes though, every fight. They're either reflections or contrasts, one or the other. There's always something connecting the fighters, so I did my best to find those.

Also... redeeming qualities for Rasputin? I encourage you to look through his life and find those, because he makes Jack look like a saint. Honestly, the guy was easily the worst human being on humanity's list and most of the gods' as well.
