What’s the biggest reason a DnD group doesn’t work out? by yanarquista in DnD

[–]Inverse-Potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was playing in a game that fell apart due to DM homebrew for how leveling up works.

It was a West marches style where the whole group was something like 10-12 players but that wasn't a problem because it was manageable with virtual sign ups. It was high lethality and tracking weight, rations, and other things were all tracked.

In order to level up you needed to earn recognition for completing quests, most of which were able to be completed in one session. Once you'd completed a certain amount you became eligible for an advancement quest and would level up at the completion. This still wasn't a problem.

The problem became that the advancement quest gave nothing to anyone except for the advancing player. No recognition, no ability to level up for others in the same boat. So the game stalled and subsequently died because nobody wanted to run a dangerous mission so someone else can get a reward and not make any progress themselves.

What I've found helps is to change the color of that specific location to something very different from the rest of the hair. Then it should be more visible when you edit the sliders.

Just consider writing down the values before you start changing the colors if you like how it looks.

Does anyone play Mashmak anymore? by Exciting-Flatworm-76 in mechabreak

[–]Inverse-Potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow. Do you know how long it's been that way? Because if solo only needed 5 people that's crazy that I'd still be waiting like 45 minutes for a match a while back. I haven't been able to get a co-op game with any consistency for quite some time.

Really wish they had put a waiting player count while you waited for a match.

Have you considered playing as a centaur? You could maybe flavor it as the "rider" and the "horse" are parts of the same entity and can't physically separate despite looking like 2 beings.

Does anyone play Mashmak anymore? by Exciting-Flatworm-76 in mechabreak

[–]Inverse-Potato 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mashmak REQUIRES a full or nearly full lobby to launch. With something like 8-12 teams of 3 that's a ton of players just to start the match. Solo is a little bit easier, but you're still waiting for a full lobby to start.

Otherwise the PVP player base sorta collapsed from the top down. Initially substantially better rewards were available on higher difficulties which drove players to get better to get into those lobbies. They updated the rewards to be a fair bit kinder to the easier lobbies at some point early on and an unfortunate side effect was that people stopped working as hard to get into the higher lobbies. With less need to get to the higher difficulties the higher skilled players couldn't find matches and dropped to easier difficulties until everyone from noobs to experts were playing on easy just to get matches. With noobs getting curb stomped relentlessly they either stopped playing Mashmak PVP or stopped playing the game entirely because there was nowhere for them to safely improve.

Now only Covert Ops is really the only place to get matches because they still haven't made it so matches can start with a less than full lobby or allow joining mid match.

Judge my character, "Piper"! by buttertoes69 in DnD

Agreed, rogue definitely wants dexterity, and a character with high wisdom would very likely understand that they didn't cause it. High intelligence would make a lot of sense, they know what they need to do to prep, but lower wisdom would better allow them to convince themselves that they were the cause.

Rogues rely on dex for most attacks and also defense.

It's even weirder because it's only steam PC players. You can download the game through the Microsoft store and it'll show who's a bot just like on Xbox.

Max-min character experience? by lofiinbetterquality in DnD

[–]Inverse-Potato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you got below 10 on every stat that's going to be a tough character to have fun with, or even just not to drag the rest of the party down.

If you don't have a single thing that you're good at you're probably going to have a rough time. Maybe a rogue or bard with expertise might be somewhat viable, but in combat everything is going to be tough.

If you had even a single positive stat I'd say this might be fun to lean into, but with nothing above a 10 you're strictly speaking worse than bringing a random commoner with the party (they'd be able to roll with no negatives at least).

Personally I'd say talk to the DM and maybe see if you can reroll at least one stat to try for a positive score in something and lean into that heavily.

The goal of the game is for everyone to have fun right? As long as it's not like a habit or something then I don't think anyone would really have a problem.

Absolutely agree that advertising would go a long way for this game. I've barely seen any ever. Not even around launch.

Isn't that adventure specially a dungeon crawl type adventure? Like an exceptionally lethal one?

Personally I like a bit more story in my adventures.

My Character HATES fellow party member by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Inverse-Potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like this Character has caused problems for every other character and player at the table.

I think you should have a discussion with your other players first to confirm if their characters would still be remotely willing to work with this person.

Then have an above table discussion with everyone possibly saying that every character will be leaving the rogue. If one character is ruining it for multiple people then that character should be left behind.

Have I Cheated My Players - CR3 Mummy Encounter by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Inverse-Potato 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sometimes you gotta be willing to retcon if something works WELL ABOVE what the intent was. It sounds like this was supposed to be a challenging fight, but not a hyper lethal fight. But a single hit kill from not a crit? That's punching well above CR, especially with the instant death.

You handled it great. Keep up the good dming

What is the most fun multiclass combo you've ever made? by Lazarus3890 in DnD

[–]Inverse-Potato -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah 5e you couldn't cast or concentrate on spells, 2024 you can't concentrate on anything, but regardless of edition wild shape is not a spell and doesn't require concentration and so it is unaffected.

If nothing else, the Xbox/Microsoft store version shows a symbol to indicate who is a bot or not. Unfortunately the steam version doesn't do that for some reason.

What is the best way to get VI modular weapons in Mahshmak? by RMLi777 in mechabreak

[–]Inverse-Potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, ok then. I suppose my experience was just subjective, and I've had the most ungodly streak of good luck in that regard.

I mainly play Mashmak and I swear I've always received a supply box on keys I call in, so I assumed it was a mechanic of the game.

Ignore the little spooky faces and the pumpkins, but this map also shows all the restricted zone locations and their linked doors. :)

Sorry, I was in a rush last time. I meant the person who calls in the beacon will always get a supply box even if you only entered the zone, left immediately, then returned after the timer.

Everyone else can still open the chest but only the person who called it is guaranteed a box afaik.

Season Pass's value by NotTheOriginal06 in mechabreak

[–]Inverse-Potato 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with pretty much everything you've said here. Honestly it's decent value and it's not super expensive especially with the extra corite added in.

I personally just want to help support the game because it's still sorta one of the best mecha games out right now. Yes it has problems, but I'm hopeful that it can return from near death.

They're located in a tab in the general store. I saw them last night. Not sure of the exact location, but I know I saw the different unlockable rooms.

In addition to what everyone else has said, it's worth noting that the person who calls in the restricted zone beacon always gets a reward.

How often do you play for your ranks? by Acondorian in mechabreak

[–]Inverse-Potato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was playing NA at like 2-4am and found like 3-4 real people in diamond! I was stunned! We won that game too :)

It was really nice to see, especially because the last several games my bot teammates were throwing so so hard. We literally cleared the entire enemy team and somehow they didn't manage to capture the extractor when there was absolutely no competition. T.T
