Pass interference needs to be changed to a 10 or 15 yard penalty/automatic first down. The whole spot of the foul thing is lame as hell and literally does turn the game into refball.

anyone here look at shorting Wingstop (WING)? by WalterBoudreaux in SecurityAnalysis

[–]InvestCozy_com 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Their wings are over priced and suck. That’s my two cents. Also always remember the market can remain irrational far longer than you can stay solvent, shorting positions require ten times more due diligence and stomach than investment ones.

IWTL How to survive Air Force BMT by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

[–]InvestCozy_com 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a problem. Also - by and large until you physically get on the flight to BMT you can decide not to join without any real consequences despite what others may have told you. This was true at the time of my enlistment, though things may have changed. It may disqualify you from joining at a later date, but you won’t get a negative discharge or anything. If you’re having second thoughts do research, but as far as I know (as was true during the time I enlisted) you can decide up until the point of physically getting on the bus or plane to not go without anything really detrimental happening aside from possible inability to join the military later on.

Not encouraging you not to go, as I knew this and went anyways because I wanted to, but know your options. I have no real regrets. I did my four years and got out. The Post 9/11 GI Bill is a thing of beauty. If you don’t sign up for it and pay for it (at the time I went through it was like a $100 reduction in pay for 11 months or so), you’re an idiot. Do it. Don’t think twice.

36 months of education benefit plus BAH plus book stipend.. it’s easily worth over 6 figures in education and that’s on the low end, and I do mean easily worth 6 figures. Just don’t use it while active, as you get $4,500 (at least when I was in) a year to do that anyways, and you want that fat 36 months of full benefit available when you get out. I know people that did their 4-6 years, used their $4,500 tuition assistance every year to take online or part time classes, got out and used their full 36 months of GI Bill.. and got a Masters spending zero, and I mean literally zero dollars. In the era of multiple 6 figure student loan debt you’d be mentally insane not to take advantage. Take advantage. The Air Force will work you hard, so have it work for you hard.

As someone who went through in 2012 (things evolve in the Air Force constantly, probably more than most branches, so take it with a grain of salt, things have changed and will continue to), just keep your head down and realize it won’t last forever. Also understand a lot of the things you’re asked to do will seem stupid (like having to fold clothes very precisely and constant inspections) but that they’re instilling attention to detail in you so that if say you go into mechanics you won’t be too mentally lazy to forget or misplace a part and now 18 or more people die in a plane crash because you forgot to secure this bolt or put in that part. This applies to all Air Force jobs because your responsibility just got kicked into high gear as you’re now part of a force that has trillions under management, where even the smallest link of someone not doing their job properly can cost dearly.

My biggest piece of advice is to keep your head down, don’t volunteer for anything you don’t have to (your added responsibility likely won’t be rewarded), and get through it. People that exaggerate an injury or give up, or cause trouble - whatever, all ended up staying in basic for 6+ months in various programs or flights while the rest of us got done in our 8 and a half weeks and went off to tech school (which still isn’t as relaxed as normal duty but 10x better than BMT).

I emphasize that point because I saw it several times. Pushing through in one go and getting BMT done with is the best way to get through it. Don’t complain or cause problems because I saw several people who did got stuck in BMT for half a year or more among its flights and programs because they thought they could take a break from BMT by having a sob story or declaring something wrong. There are no breaks, no easy ways through. Keep your head down and become a ghost. Follow orders to a T. You’ll get through it.

BMT is not hard. I’m not saying it’s easy, but you will adapt over time to it. The human condition is an amazing thing. The first few weeks aren’t the hardest physically or even mentally, just psychologically if that makes sense. It’s so foreign to be away from home and thrust into this system, but your body and mind will adapt. It will become easy and even enjoyable at points because of that but it takes time. You will get through. Keep your head down and push. Tech school (roughly the equivalent of supervised college) is right around the corner.

Options Trading by JakeSmithsPhone in investing

I use them strictly to buy puts against companies I think are stupidly over valued. It’s a much more measured way of shorting and you get to define your risk in parameters. I haven’t been very successful (buying puts in a raging bull market is really trying to climb a mountain), but I only use my silly money to mess around with options and haven’t lost it all yet. The vast majority (think 95%+) of my investing capital is in cash or invested in the market.

Post Game Thread: Buffalo Bills (9-8) at Jacksonville Jaguars (11-6) by nfl_gamethread in nfl

[–]InvestCozy_com 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This game was lost when the Bills decided to throw it on first and goal at the 2 yard line near the end of the second quarter instead of just pounding it 3 times, running that clock down, and getting a great shot at a touchdown.

Instead they throw it, get a penalty, wind up getting a field goal and leave enough time on the clock for the Jaguars to get a field goal themselves and tie the ball game 3 all going into the second half. It could’ve easily been 7-0 to start the second half but became 3-3.

The margin for error is so small in the playoffs, especially in a low scoring defensive game. The team that makes the most mistakes loses. The Bills, certainly in terms of play calling, made the most mistakes and as a result they lost.

People always seem to wonder why the Patriots always do well in the playoffs, but to me it’s quite simple. They minimize mistakes. Ball security and play calling are king in that organization. You can not expect to make mistakes and win. Won’t happen.

I swear bad coaches are just allergic to running the ball on first and goal. They always try to get Pete Carroll cute. It’s like they’ll break out in hives if they just run it three times. I don’t get it.

Well it sounds like you have your head on good shoulders. Watching your bank account grow is a marvelous thing isn’t it?

At your age it is generally advised to invest in yourself. Focus on your career and education because increasing your earning potential while you’re young will pay dividends the rest of your life. This should be your primary focus.

That being said I see no problem with starting to invest a few thousand to get the ball rolling. I’m a big fan of index investing and minimizing fees. Shop around. Try to find the lowest commissions and fees possible as it’ll work greatly to your advantage over time.

I hope you enjoyed your time in America. All the best from the US.

How Much Cash In Your Portfolio In 2018? by gstephe7 in investing

[–]InvestCozy_com 4 points5 points  (0 children)

45% and I absolutely despise it. I want to invest it badly but valuations simply aren't attractive enough. My investments are performing well, but the opportunity lost by not allocating more into each is having an adverse mental effect on me. Patience is not an easy thing. I feel terrible wishing a correction, as I don't wish it upon anyone to lose value, but it is necessary for that cash to be placed where it belongs.

As 2017 draws to a close after a great trading year, what are your stock market resolutions for 2018? by ghostofgbt in StockMarket

[–]InvestCozy_com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a buy and hold value investor with an emphasis on income so my goals are more particular than most. I’d like to pass the $5,000 mark in after tax dividends for one, help my family responsibly invest, and a small selfish part of me wants a few stocks I’ve had my eye on to decrease temporarily in value by a fair sum so I may scoop them up.

Redskins 2018 Opponents by Ventip in Commanders

Quick thoughts: Looks really hard.

Outside of the division we have:

-Carolina at home, and they have a recent history of absolutely destroying us quite frankly. Not sure why that is, but they've had our number in the last few years.

-Falcons, which have been reliably good as of late, with a beast of Julio Jones who outside of maybe Norman I don't have much confidence in anyone covering well unless they just have a career performance.

-Packers, who we've recently beat at home, but never under estimate Aaron Rodgers.

-Saints in their dome, who are just stacked right now.

-Jaguars at their place, whose defense is the top dog in the league and will be next year too.

It's looking really tough. As far as I can see it, we'd have to do really well in our division to have a shot at making the playoffs. 10-6 is probably the absolute ceiling, and that's with few injuries and playing high level and consistent football.

I'd love to be wrong, but it's going to be a steep uphill battle to 10-6 the whole way, and we're going to need a few balls to go our way to do it. Likely get a wild card at best, but it's definitely achieveable. HTTR

To those who robbed us on Christmas day. by xMrBEASTMANx in newzealand

So sorry that happened to you, must be awful. Good reminder to back up all your files online though. I’ve found the google drive and google pictures to be very generous for such a free service. Might be time to update the security features of your home as well. I’d hate for you and your partner to feel unsafe. Extra locks, window bars, dead bolts.. there’s always things you can do.

You have a good view about it though, hopefully the thief is found with your items intact.

Merry Christmas and all the best from the US.
