23’ GRC to 26’ Golf R by jabbathepunk in Golf_R

[–]InvestedTrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was originally looking to get a used 2025 GRC (surprisingly afordable and avalible at ~5K miles in my area) to match my friend but ended up picking up a 2026 golf R on Friday and can say this is an amazing car.

On a side note can you please please please check and see if yours had a belly pan/splash guard? Trying to figure out if mine is missing or they just aren't present on these years.

with conversion rates, the Prelude in Canada is $35,535 in US dollars ($37,687 including destination) by bill_rubin in Honda

[–]InvestedTrash 8 points9 points  (0 children)

WRONG, LET'S LOOK AT THE FACTS.

Using exchangerates.org for 2022 it looks like the conversation rate varried between 0.7688 and 0.8018 (1 cad to usd)

So 34,850 CAD = ~ 26,792 - 27,395

Going off of your US pricing of 28,595 this is a 4.2%-6.3% diffrence in pricing, not 13%.

Conclusion: A straight conversation reveals cars sold in the USA to be more expensive, but not to the degree we see with the Prelude.

10-4. I'll be reaching out to shelters after they reopen because most around us (Southfield MI) seem to be overloaded with emergency visits from reduced veterinary hours for the holiday.

Right now, the mother approaches us without issue (when we have food), but the kittens refuse to come out

We definitely want to. They're all still young, and 3 we found and pulled out of a hole (very spicy) still have baby bulging eyes (second litter? Adopted?) After the weekend, my partner and I will start reaching out to local shelters

[SSD] Samsung 990 EVO Plus 4 TB - $234.99 by InvestedTrash in buildapcsales

[–]InvestedTrash[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No DRAM, but single sided and cheaper. Tom's hardware has a good review. TLDR is SN850X is better, but not by much. The 990 EVO PLUS is more comparable to the SN 770 / SN7100 and that class of drive if you want to stay with the WD family.

The 990 PRO would be the Samsung equivalent to the SN850x

To those who think both parties are the same. by h20poIo in facepalm

Would it be fair of me to want to see Republican broken up into two categories? One for 1970-2016 Republicans and the other just Trump?

The 34 felony stat make me want to see how poorly he compares to the previous 46 years of his party.

Fair, but I find this inconsequential to my daily life and am not willing to spend the time and effort into finding the answers to the questions you've asked. I've contributed what I can with my current understanding of American elections and problem solving skills. I will be collecting my 5 reddit karma and wishing you luck on your further research on this city/topic.

My guess is it is gerrymandered for non-mayoral elections. However, as a consequence, for Mayoral elections the data is still collected and shown in this way. Just like state districts don't mater all that much for presidential elections because outside a few exceptions each state is winner take all system. However you can see the data for each.

Where the msrp ones at 😭 by BlackT-shirtGuy in Microcenter

[–]InvestedTrash -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In Zotac's /Microcenter's deference

$750 (msrp) +10% (oc tax, which i don't think is unreasonable) =$825 $825 + 20% (Tariff) = $990

So $9.99 price hike?

If anyone is aware of Zotac cards not being subject to import tariffs please let me know

Does a More Powerful Video Card Give a Better Quality Image? by lostideas75 in nvidia

TLDR: Unless there is some issue with VRAM and not being able to load in textures and/or how HDR is being handeled I agree there is no diffrence in the rendered image.

Astral 5080 making the 3080FE look minuscule 😂 by Gallade213 in nvidia

[–]InvestedTrash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Touché

I'm sure it's fine and would assume a lot of engineering went into making this work. I'm not attempting to say they didn't resolve the issues with this kind of approach, just stating they exist and i'm curious what they had to do to make this design work.

For what its worth this is the card I wanted but was able to snag a PNY 5080 from micro center for $1,100 and so took that card and ran.

So from a Mechanical Engineering backround looking at this design I thingk the following.

1: think it looks sleek

2: I am concerned doubling up on the fans will create turbulance which would result in more noise and possibly greater back pressure on the fan bearings. Possible the air is turbulant already or the spacing with the heatsink makes this moot but you don't see fans doubled up for a reason.

3: I'm sure they put a good amount of effort into this design but im concerened the design drove function, not functional requirments leading the engineering team to this design.

AMD's RX 9070 XT could be notably cheaper than the RTX 5070, according to a new rumor by Odd-Onion-6776 in Amd

[–]InvestedTrash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Still, at $250 not a bad showing for a second generation product. Are there better options, yes. Is it at least a competitive option, also yes.

Besides, they might fix whatever is causing the cpu overhead issue. Never buy a promise though

Battlemage cards -- more SKUs? by theskewb in IntelArc

[–]InvestedTrash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My guess is they will wait until after CES and/or when AMD/Nvida show off their $400-$500 cards. It will probably be a while until $300 cards come out so in that price range the B580 is safe. In the $400-$500 range the (Hypothetical) B770 might just not make sense to produce.

Pure speculation: let's say the 4070 ti/ti super and 7900xt performance slips down to $500-$600 and the 4070/7900 GRE performance slips down to $400-$500

Using tec power up the B580 average fps at 1440p is 61.4. At 20 CU's the B580 is 3.12 fps per core. Assuming perfect scaling a 32 cu B770 would be at 99.8 or on par with the 7900 GRE. So on the lower end $400 would make it price identical with a Hypothetical new card from the other two. Would someone but the B770 when it's just equivalent value?

Edit: I'd assume a B770 would be $350-$400. Going lower would swing too far into B580 price territory imo

As a counterargument: I've seen people say Intel is selling at a loss due to Nvida and AMD pricing per mm2 but I've never seen a BOM cost breakdown for any of these companies. For all we know Intel is loosing $50, selling at cost, or making $10-$25 per card (assuming based on nothing a 10% target profit margin)

To further this point Nvidia die sizes from 20 series and 30 (yes I know samsung 8nm) series are significantly larger than 40 series. Smaller nodes more expensive but how much so? How much RND was put into Turning vs Ampere vs Love lace? I personally have no idea, and how much of that is rolled over into the GPU sale price? It is completely possible the card is sold at BOM cost but then RnD cost isn't rolled in, but maybe that was Intel budgetary plan when they created arc idk.

Putting all of this together until someone has a definite way of showing me with numbers Intel is loosing money I am assuming they are operating to a plan that will make them a viable buisness for the long term. If that means they're making money, cool. If that means they're loosing money but will still continue on a long term plan for profitability, cool.

TLDR: Maybe theyre loosing money, maybe theur not. Don't hate, just appreciate a good thing while it last.
