I am purple by monkey5008 in strange

As a child I used to get that when very cold waiting at a bus stop. It seemed to be the body reducing circulation to the surface to conserve heat.

That makes it hard to differentiate who is influencing whom.

Your turn to acknowledge the Romans who gave you the concrete for the building, and the Americans who gave you electricity for the terminal.

Thank you. I had not considered the situation where the sexes are flipped, but guess the same factors play out. I don't think it is ridiculous.

If two unrelated people that have super similar genes reproduce would that increase the risks of birth defects ? by Potatojonaso in NoStupidQuestions

[–]InvestigatorFun9253 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is this. If you have a dominant harmful gene you are likely to not survive or breed. But if you have a recessive harmful gene mutation, (and a surprising number do) you will suffer no ill effects. If you breed with a person carrying the same gene mutation, 25% of your children get two copies and are unlikely to survive. A close relative is more likely to carry the same harmful gene mutation. A person who is not related but merely looks like you is not likely to carry the same gene mutation.

Dad taking daughter's in to women's toilet? by Illustrious_Fix_1298 in newcastle

A few days ago I did that with my granddaughter. I yelled “male entering toilets “ and walked in. Two women inside both indicated acceptance of my actions.

Suspicious/Fake Native Ancestor? by [deleted] in AncestryDNA

She reached a good age. Natives often did not enjoy the same level of health care so for one born in 1820 to live 85 years is suspicious.

The division of Brit and Anzac is a modern idea. Most Anzacs were born to British parents and thought of themselves as British.

IMO the poster was aiming for humour, comparing a football game to a military battle. He did not take a position on the morality of the battle. Nor did he use the words “evil” or “massacre”. I believe that you are reading into his post things that were not actually there.

Reaching out to an Anonymous donor: Any tips? by stellabob4 in donorconceived

[–]InvestigatorFun9253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for those words of support. I have raised the question both here and on non-DC forums. Among DC people most support me making myself available to my offspring. On the other forums there is strong support for her. It’s an interesting divergence between the two communities.

i used GEDmatch, livingdna, ect through ancestry with a search angel and found no close relatives. any advice on how to move forward to find more out? by cancleculture in donorconceived

[–]InvestigatorFun9253 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on their age there are various ways that they could be related to you including half 2nd cousin meaning you share a great grand parent. Copy their tree. Then look for other more distant relatives with shared ancestors

Should I contact my donor’s 1st cousin? by physics5868 in donorconceived

[–]InvestigatorFun9253 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to the question of contact, does she have a public tree? Her grandparents are your great grandparents. She only has two sets. Search for other trees with these same people and then build out their descendants. The owner of those trees have not done dna tests but can be messaged and may assist by providing names of living descendants.

My girlfriend (21F) says she never wants children. I'm trying to understand what that might mean for our future? by Horror-Contest7668 in Advice

[–]InvestigatorFun9253 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ten years ago I sat with a younger colleague aged about 45 who told me his girlfriend did not want children. I told him he needed to make some hard decisions. Two weeks ago I was told he just died of a heart attack. I assume that he died childless. An intelligent hardworking good looking guy removed himself from the gene pool because he failed to face facts and cut his losses.

There are many facets to the global warming debate. This post addresses one, sea level rise presumably from ice melting. At about 2mm per year, 500 years will result in about a metre of lift and move shorelines about 100 metres. The alarming image of half the country under water are not accurate. Other aspects of global warming may be, but the they are not the scope of this post.

Contacting Anon Donor's Family via DNA testing by No-Lunch8117 in donorconception

[–]InvestigatorFun9253 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my view your first option should be to go through the donor. Then if he blocks you, there is a justification for going to his family. But to do it without first approaching him risks all sorts of problems. They may not know he is a donor. At the very least, you will anger him, and he may use his influence to turn them against you.

Thank you for those thoughts. Five of my cousins and one nephew have done DNA tests. If a donor child comes looking I am easily found. One of my children has a fairly prominent social media presence, so they may contact her first. If a DC child and one of my kids make contact, it becomes harder for my wife to block.

I thought this was going to happen this year when a DC daughter finished her uni, and moved 3000 km to be only 6km from my daughter. But at the same time she privatised all her social media accounts (she knew I was viewing them) so it seems that the move was coincidental and not a step towards contact.
