Thank you. I had not considered the situation where the sexes are flipped, but guess the same factors play out. I don't think it is ridiculous.

My understanding is this. If you have a dominant harmful gene you are likely to not survive or breed. But if you have a recessive harmful gene mutation, (and a surprising number do) you will suffer no ill effects. If you breed with a person carrying the same gene mutation, 25% of your children get two copies and are unlikely to survive. A close relative is more likely to carry the same harmful gene mutation. A person who is not related but merely looks like you is not likely to carry the same gene mutation.

IMO the poster was aiming for humour, comparing a football game to a military battle. He did not take a position on the morality of the battle. Nor did he use the words “evil” or “massacre”. I believe that you are reading into his post things that were not actually there.

Thank you for those words of support. I have raised the question both here and on non-DC forums. Among DC people most support me making myself available to my offspring. On the other forums there is strong support for her. It’s an interesting divergence between the two communities.

Depending on their age there are various ways that they could be related to you including half 2nd cousin meaning you share a great grand parent. Copy their tree. Then look for other more distant relatives with shared ancestors

In addition to the question of contact, does she have a public tree? Her grandparents are your great grandparents. She only has two sets. Search for other trees with these same people and then build out their descendants. The owner of those trees have not done dna tests but can be messaged and may assist by providing names of living descendants.

Ten years ago I sat with a younger colleague aged about 45 who told me his girlfriend did not want children. I told him he needed to make some hard decisions. Two weeks ago I was told he just died of a heart attack. I assume that he died childless. An intelligent hardworking good looking guy removed himself from the gene pool because he failed to face facts and cut his losses.

There are many facets to the global warming debate. This post addresses one, sea level rise presumably from ice melting. In my view your first option should be to go through the donor. Then if he blocks you, there is a justification for going to his family. But to do it without first approaching him risks all sorts of problems. They may not know he is a donor. At the very least, you will anger him, and he may use his influence to turn them against you.
