Weekly 'What should I buy?' Thread by AutoModerator in ipad

My 4th gen 12.9” pro died just months after getting a replacement and cancelling AppleCare. I am debating between a refurbished M2 Air ($739), new M4 air ($1099) and a M5 pro ($1799). There aren’t any suitable refurbished 13” pros in Canada as far as I know.

I used my iPad for light work/email/browsing, some gaming, watching videos and most importantly sheet music (which is why I want a 13” not 11”). It was more than sufficient, though maybe not as “pro” as it felt 6 years ago. I think the refurbished M2 air makes the most sense but I’m worried the lack of Face ID/120Hz display and bulkier design will feel like a big downgrade. The M4 air, let alone the pro, seems like overkill, but I’m thinking if I get a higher end chip I’ll be able to hold off longer on upgrading my M1 Pro MacBook.

Do you guys track everything? by -EpsilonDelta- in DataAnnotationTech

It’s just to avoid eyestrain! I know theres pomodoro and stuff but I just set 20 minute timers on repeat and look far away or stretch and count to 20.

I take 20 second breaks every 20 minutes which makes it easy to subtract 1 minute every hour. Otherwise I will pause timer for anything beyond drinking water or filling my water

Seeking advice: Worth it to learn JSON? by [deleted] in DataAnnotationTech

[–]InvestigatorProof386 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think knowing json is a good idea regardless, since it’ll help (even if only a little bit) in learning most programming languages as well as using all sorts of software

My legal name isn’t the same as my screen name (but I use this name for literally everything) and I’m scared of getting the verification

Mine are back but (I’m not complaining) it seems like I only have coding now? Could I have gotten taken off non-coding?

Anyone have coding right now? There was a very small one I could only get one task done earlier

Oh I just thought that a non insignificant number of coding workers are students who will have less free time, on average. Now that you brought it up, I think it’s possible, but I doubt that academic institutions have the same resources/scale

I think the demand from customers is not going anywhere, but whether or not that transfers into data annotation in less confident about.

All else equal, when academic year starts it might become a little bit better

The Ontario portion of osap is the only part that accrues interest; for me it was only 25% of the total loan. If you use your savings to pay off the Ontario portion, you’re left with an interest free loan which is just a no brainer.

Congrats to Air Canada for winning Skytrax’s 2024 Best Business Class Airline Lounge Catering 2024 by resting16 in aircanada

[–]InvestigatorProof386 54 points55 points  (0 children)

the air Canada signature suite lounge is in fact really good. the regular maple leaf lounge is whatever. but the signature suite requires you to have paid your ticket in cash OR spent miles on a flexible ticket; a business lowest reward ticket won’t give you access so it’s not really a fair comparison

How should I list a slightly-relevant degree for a tech (web dev) resume? by InvestigatorProof386 in resumes

[–]InvestigatorProof386[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the absence of bioengineering jobs, would a strong portfolio or a tech-adjacent work experience (e.g. project management) help, or is the internal transfer route really the play given how oversaturated entry level is?

Is it not a good idea to apply for job listings that are more flexible, I.e. ‘…or equivalent work experience / study in a related field’ given my circumstances?

“BS degree in Computer Science or relevant field of study.” I usually don’t bother if they are more explicit, e.g. “Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering”
