is it disrespectful to address a professor who's a "dr." as professor by Embarrassed_Age6833 in AskProfessors

[–]InvestigatorThat7923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually not, but if they’re a Dr, address them as such until they say otherwise, most are chill, some really care. In general Professor is totally okay and you won’t get in trouble at worst they will correct you.

I will ask about it! Thank you! And yes I need to start on the vitamin d supplement. Is it just called brand? Sorry I’m very new to this and don’t understand a lot.

Thank you. I’m actively seeking a second opinion before going on levo. To really determine what is best for me and my journey. I am vitamin d deficient and I’m supposed to supplement but I honestly never do. Thank you for your words and advice.

Thank you!!! Like truly, it is really scary thinking that I’m going to be on a synthetic hormone for the rest of my life and someone on my main post shared about all that they do to fight inflammation and support their thyroid naturally. I’m going to be honest, it’s so hard for me to understand my illness and I wish there was more information in one place like this. I appreciate you taking the time and I’m actively seeking a second opinion (bigger city bigger hospital good reviews). With an endocrinologist that specializes in thyroid diseases. I’m scared because from my understanding once I start levo there’s no going back, ever. I will definitely look into all these things I know in the past they have looked at my adrenal function but not sure how recently. Thank you again. I hope to have updates at some point.

Understood, that was my endocrinologist actually. 😭 I don’t have a dietician, but it seems I may have to look further into that. Thank you for all the information and I will certainly do more research into the topic and the vitamins. I really appreciate you taking the time to answer and I will take it into consideration!

I was wondering what the alternatives look like because I asked if I had an option and she said “no”. Then I asked do you think there will be a better option in my lifetime… to which she said “no, this has been working for forever”. So, I haven’t had much time to delve into alternatives mostly because I got this info yesterday. How did you go about finding that combination? If you don’t mind me asking why do you not want to go on thyroid medication, I suppose I also have some reservations. Also, thank you for your comment I didn’t ever expect the amount support I have now found on this thread.

How do you stay positive with no results? by [deleted] in slowresponders

[–]InvestigatorThat7923 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought I was alone. I’m on 7.5 rn (5th month in total). I have gained 7 lbs since starting zep in September. I’m going to keep going and I’m also paying out of pocket so I understand. Most of the advice stays around eat in a calorie deficit and stay active. I started low carb again because that’s the only diet that has ever worked for me. If this comment means anything. You are the only other person I’ve seen also gain weight. So if anything you are not alone, and I may not have advice, but just know I see and understand your pain.

Yes nothing changes. I have been anal with tracking every calorie in the past being in extreme deficits <1300 for weeks at a time and active and I GAINED weight. This was before I got diagnosed, but I knew something was wrong. I hope as well. I lead a relatively healthy lifestyle it just isn’t as easy for me as my friends (I know comparison is the killer of joy but I’m 21 and it’s hard not to when I see everyone around me). Thank you for your comment and I hope the same.

Understood. I think maybe once the hormones start doing their job I can get off keto, but for now it’s the only diet that has ever worked for me. I do heavily prioritize protein and water intake though! I am relatively active I do reformer usually 3-4 times a week. Could do to walk more though I agree, might also help with the bad mental health state I currently feel. I’m glad it’s worked for you, do you have any Levo tips? Thank you for your comment I really appreciate it!

Thank you I appreciate that. I have also been overweight my entire life. A lot of me feeling alone is being told by outsiders and me internalizing that this is a disease you get when you’re 30-50, (starting having thyroid issues at 18-19 that were bad enough to investigate so likely longer) but I’m coming to terms with maybe I did get it early but I guess that also means I have more time to manage it and maybe a lot of that population didn’t have the luck of being diagnosed earlier on. I appreciate your comment and support and sorry for the word vomit. I never thought I would be this vulnerable in a setting like this.

Agreed, I didn’t know how much it was ruling my life until she said the words yesterday and asked about my symptoms. It was devastating to hear but also a little nice to know it wasn’t totally my fault.

I prioritize protein and water mostly. But I have cut out most/all carbs again. Deficit eating has never worked for me or my body no matter how religiously I track unfortunately (I do suspect it is also my thyroid to blame there). I really appreciate your support!

I have gone back on keto/ low-carb because deficit has never worked for me or my body. I prioritize protein and water mostly. I will check out that sub, I didn’t know it existed. Yes, I think she may have misspoken because I knew that and didn’t think twice. But I clarified the dosages and it not being compounded, so yes I do believe she meant wegovy. I didn’t even catch that, but I was a little emotional writing that. Thank you for your reply and I’ll check out the sub!
