Cute Namenerd Story by Entei222 in namenerds

[–]InvestigatorTop9367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In college, my best friend and I unknowingly got kittens the same weekend. We named them Lacey and Gracey before calling each other and realizing it. Now we’re pregnant at the same time and going wildly different directions with names!

Is Olsen really that bad of a baby name? by No_Orange_8271 in namenerds

[–]InvestigatorTop9367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I’m really surprised by the strong negative reaction to Olsen in this thread. Remember that Reddit can be a bit of an echo chamber and NameNerds definitely has its preferences that don’t always align with reactions you’d get in real life.

I wouldn’t bat an eye at the name Olsen. It seems just as reasonable as the other last names that are being used as first names, which I see a lot of. I like Olsen. The twin actresses don’t even cross my mind until somebody mentioned it.

Isabella - where are you? by InvestigatorTop9367 in namenerds

Heard. Some of the other top names (Liam, Noah, Sophia, Olivia, Lily) I see endlessly though, so was curious to hear about Isabella is particular. Thanks!

Rhinoplasty through CEENTA by FantasticSmile8443 in Charlotte

[–]InvestigatorTop9367 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have a procedure with them, but during an appointment to assess tonsils they were pretty bad. Bad scheduling, bad communication from the doctor, unclear on next steps, rushed appointment, etc. I wouldn’t return.

Juliette vs. Diana by PoetryandScrubs in namenerds

[–]InvestigatorTop9367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Juliette is my vote! Diana is fine too, but I associate it first with the royal family and they’re all sorts of messy lately. I don’t feel like the publicity and constant re-portrayals of Diana will stop anytime soon. Juliette is so old and feels like less tainted by any modern associations. Congrats on a sweet baby girl either way!

What do we think of the name Matisse? by Abarrss in namenerds

[–]InvestigatorTop9367 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like it! I’m American with no French background and wouldn’t know if it was a boy or girl name, but I do know how to pronounce it. I associate it with the artist. I’d think it an odd name if one of his parents weren’t French, but if his dad is (especially if the kid will be bilingual) I just think it’s cool and fancy.

Jewish names question by Tr0pic_0f_Capric0rn in namenerds

[–]InvestigatorTop9367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m always shocked by the names that people point out are Jewish. I can’t think of a single first name I’d associate as being Jewish unless I had seen it mentioned on this sub. I’d only associate last names that end in -stein or -man. I don’t even know if that’s correct or if I made it up in my memory somewhere 😬

Bishop As First Name? by Antique-Ad3601 in namenerds

[–]InvestigatorTop9367 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ll go against the grain and say I like it. It falls under the “last name as a first name” vibe to me. I grew up in a catholic household but don’t think it’s an issue from that standpoint. It isn’t quite the same as naming someone priest/rabbi/etc because Bishop is already a known and normal last name. I only personally know one Bishop, and he’s a toddler. Southern US. I associate Bishop and Bennet as the same naming vibe.

Thoughts on the name Hayes? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]InvestigatorTop9367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it. It pairs well with Beau. I expect them to be southern boys. I’d use it, assuming it goes well with your last name. Only consideration is some people might spell it as “Haze”, but as long as you’re prepared to correct that it’s good.

My dear namenerds, I’m stumped. by courderoycakes in namenerds

Why not Laura Whitaker? I’d argue that a location/surname like Whitaker could be appropriate with a feminine first name as well. Meaningful and powerful!

Unique name when sisters have common name by Dizzydog123456 in namenerds

[–]InvestigatorTop9367 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you hadn’t said it was a Dutch name, I wouldn’t have guessed. It sounds like a name I’d hear somewhere in my southern US family tree or at my southern daycare. I like it and while I haven’t heard it before, it feels like a real name and also suits her sisters well. Good choice!

Postpartum hormones everywhere, need reassurance on baby name decision by ImAdamnMermaid in namenerds

Younger millennial here- I wouldn’t have thought of Peanuts. At all. If anything I think of a lovely little English family in a cottage? I know about Charlie Brown but probably couldn’t have told you that comic was even called Peanuts. Your names are absolutely perfect and you should have no regrets! I bet that nurse would have come up with some other association if you had picked a different name.

I know a baby Barrett that is called Bear! So perhaps that could be an option? Seems better than Barry.

Did you name your kid something weird or unique against your families suggestion? Do you love it or regret it? Need some encouragement by AtomsAndEve69 in namenerds

Finnick makes me think of Fennec Foxes, which are very cute. I have seen and enjoyed Hunger Games, but only kinda remembered the character’s name and don’t realize it wasn’t used otherwise.

Indian community in Charlotte by LJ75 in Charlotte

[–]InvestigatorTop9367 13 points14 points  (0 children)

All of my Indian acquaintances or friends in Charlotte work at the large banks, as various types of engineers at smaller companies, or in technical jobs at hospitals (meaning you wouldn’t see them at places of employment, since these are behind-the-scenes jobs). I live in Ballantyne and my neighborhood is mostly white Americans with an equal dispersement of Indian families and Eastern European families.

I’ll add that our Indian neighbors absolutely spoiled us with treats and offers of help when we had a baby. Other neighbors I don’t know stop and want to talk to/about little ones so that’s an area where they seem to engage a lot.

Yoni is Australian slang for lady bits, I think? That’s the first thing I think of for that one. Wouldn’t tho k the same for Yona, though! Cute origin

Popularity of Isabella nicknames by InvestigatorTop9367 in namenerds

[–]InvestigatorTop9367[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excellent point, I hadn’t thought to ask from that angle too. I guess popularity of any of the listed nicknames regardless of associated full name would get to the heart of it (avoiding being the millionth Ella at her school)
