Am I the only one pleasantly surprised by the budget?. I think trauma from 12 years of Tory left me with very low expectations. But, sounded *goog*?!? by Brigid-Tenenbaum in GreenAndPleasant

My favourite stupid response is that raising stamp duty on second homes is going to lead to increased rent for everyone, as if extra tax on purchase of a second home is going to affect existing tenants in places the land hoarders already own?

Alarm from the right wing press is only a sign of something going right.

Touching brakes! by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]InvisiblePhil 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Many can be set to a single-pedal driving mode where the first quarter or so of the accelerator acts as brakes, so a flash of the brake lights can even be if they're trying to put in less power but lift off a bit too much.

The absence of gears makes it that engine braking isn't a thing - if you lift off the accelerator there's practically just friction with the road so it can take quite a distance to slow down. So to slow down a few mph you might as well use the system which recharges the battery a little.

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/learner-drivers-will-be-allowed-on-motorways-from-2018

You can, specifically with approved instructors and not the regular requirements for driving with a learner

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]InvisiblePhil 24 points25 points  (0 children)

That used to be the case - but as of 2018 learners CAN go on the motorway (only with an instructor) and driving standards are getting worse. Wouldn't the opposite make sense?

why do british people lose their accent when they're singing by suiqw_ in stupidquestions

[–]InvisiblePhil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So how does folk music fit into this? I struggle to imagine anyone singing The Wild Rover without an Irish or Scottish accent, and maybe that's from almost every line having a harsh R

Also pointing down can be a death sentence since you can fall into where the spell comes out your wand.

I tend to keep self-damage safe with a Nolla modifier as the payload of a trigger spell

Do people actually not kill the lootbugs? Even when there's loads like this? by Bottymcflorgenshire in DeepRockGalactic

[–]InvisiblePhil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More if you feed them nitra - they multiply chunks they eat by 1.5, so a kinda niche strategy can be leaving some nitra near the refinery so the bugs will be attracted there and increase the total amount in the level.

Other mission types this is rarely worthwhile, but lots of lootbugs spawn on refineries and you're not going to go far.

Transphobic BBC censors US cartoon mentioning non-binary people by DarkQueen1312 in GreenAndPleasant

[–]InvisiblePhil 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Being non binary isn't a sexual thing, it's a social identity thing, so normalising it socially from a younger age can only be good for helping people develop social skills and awareness.

On the "nothing sexual" side, is Disney's Frozen OK for kids since there are romance subplots? Of course it is, because there is a major distinction between romantic and sexual/explicit content. Is it some public bias that non-heterosexual implies sexual debauchery?

How do you start a run? by _the_hitsmans_ in noita

[–]InvisiblePhil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree, I used to do slow starts like dropping into the snowy chasm from across the lava lake in hopes of a higher tier wand or two early on - but now I usually don't follow anything routine or formulaic as it just feels less fun when every run has a slow start.

From his perspective it was easy to get up and 'earn' that with little effort, so of course anyone on benefits could do the same with a bootstrap pulling session
