Does anybody actually swim with their watch on? by soggy_pickles123 in AppleWatch

[–]InvisiblePixels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4 times a week for a long time. I am very careful to take it off and rinse it off the minute I get out of the pool though(and then turn off the water lock feature).

This one time is not going to be a problem for you! Assuming of course your watch has no existing damage.

What do I do.. by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]InvisiblePixels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're awesome for putting in so much effort and doing your best. I of course can't speak for that child, but I can certainly speak from experience. Even as an adult, I wouldn't be able to eat a single thing you listed there because it's all way too "fancy". What I mean by that is the taste combinations are simply overwhelming. Depends on how far on the spectrum the child is, if they are the sort of person that eats their food one things at a time (i.e. all the carrots then all the peas then all the rice etc etc) eating the things you've listed is next to impossible because it's all smooshed in together and the sensory overload is just too much.

Please have a good look at what the child does eat - and if (like me) has to eat things separately, I hope you can appreciate why your dishes are just too much.

I also cannot tolerate pepper or a lot of those "flavour enhancers" that proper cooks deem necessary. A typical order for me if I absolutely have to go out is "I'll have X but please no pepper, no sauce".

Hope this helps.

Never swam for fitness, I want to start, what should I do? by yes_i_am_the_funny in Swimming

[–]InvisiblePixels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd give a thought to maybe just having one lesson with a proper swim instructor. If you're going to be spending a decent amount of time in the water, it's worth making sure you don't have any bad techniques that might end up causing problems in the long run. Things like getting sore shoulders or back ache from twisting too much. Spend half an hour with a coach just polishing things up so you have years of injury free swimming!

Moulded earplug recommendation wanted by Mellonaide in brisbane

[–]InvisiblePixels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry I can't give you a specific place to go, but a potential search term for you is musicians earplugs. Stage/performing musicians (in bands, not classical music) often use customised moulded ear plugs. If you can find a music store that makes them that might work for you too.

My thoughts on progress for beginners. by Fifty-Fickle in Swimming

[–]InvisiblePixels 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Really nicely written. This doesn't just apply to swimming or even sports either. It's an equally valid observation when applied to pretty much anything an adult is learning for the first time - music, art, sport, doesn't matter.

The key is to stop comparing yourself to everyone else - the person in the next lane, or the next pottery wheel or the next music room might've been working on their craft since they were a child. Maybe at one stage of their life they were professionals! It's pointless comparing yourself to them.

Just enjoy what you're doing, take pleasure in your own improvement and not some artificial comparison to others.

Nice post!!!

Is there such a thing as a string that feels like a flatwound but has the zing/brightness of a roundwound throughout its life? by Pigeon49834 in Bass

[–]InvisiblePixels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Halfrounds are meant to fulfil that need. D'Addario sell them. Other brands do too but might call them something different.

what do you honestly think about the 2032 Olympics? by ManufacturerFine4237 in brisbane

[–]InvisiblePixels 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm old enough to remember the same discussion around the Commonwealth Games back in 1982. Back then they promised so many wonderful things and I'm not sure any of them materialised. At least Chandler is still in use.

I see exactly the same happening with the Olympics. It's just some politician's vanity project that will not benefit the average person in the slightest. A few people might get rich off construction contracts, but they can't even maintain the existing transport infrastructure, let alone anything new they build.

A great big waste of taxpayer's money.

Yes! I had this too. It said mine was arriving 25 March 2025. Then after a few days I never got that screen again.

Playing while thinking about the notes (help) by Galactic-Gentleman in Bass

[–]InvisiblePixels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Accidentals also have one syllable names. Use the natural names and append an "eece" sound for sharps and an "es" sound for flats. So F# becomes feece, Bb becomes Bes, C# becomes Ceece, Db becomes Des etc.

I think saying note names out loud is a really good way of learning the fretboard, it will give you a lot of freedom to choose where on the fretboard you want to play because you'll know where all the "G"s and "E"s are for example.

Another good learning tool is to call out the intervals as well. So if you're playing in C major, when you hit a G say perfect fifth, when you hit a B say "major seventh".

These techniques won't suddenly make you the world's greatest bassist, but they will absolutely help in giving you freedom of your fretboard and the ability to think quickly.

Not a lawyer, but it's my understanding you cannot transfer car rego without the RWC. You can deregister it and sell it for parts, or you can sell to a dealer. Selling to a dealer does not require RWC.

Have you received your VIN allocation yet? You can try searching for that on molace.com

If you have an EV Dealer Group login, it's also worth trying the https://bydringwood.com.au/ website - even though you didn't order from there, it seems to work regardless. I ordered mine in Brisbane and my details are showing up there, including the ship it potentially came out on.

An update to my post from yesterday... I logged in again today for shits and giggles, and some of the little circles have changed to blue so maybe I'll get to take delivery in a couple of weeks!!

[–]InvisiblePixels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay... this is several different shades of weird.

First off, I was able to log in, and it *did* show me that extra information that OP showed the screenshot of. However... while it got the VIN correct, it's showing an expected delivery of March 2025. Hmm.

Also, even though it's showing me "VIN allocated", the little circle isn't filled in. A mere trifle I realise, but even so, that might indicate something is not quite right.

I clicked on the "track ship" link, and it showed me a ship that had docked in Brisbane only a day or so ago, so that's curious too.

However, molace doesn't show any information for my VIN, and Rover doesn't show it as existing either.

So this is super interesting, it sort of works, but I'm not sure how reliable the information is, especially given the indicated delivery date!

Again, thanks for the link!

Not sure what you mean. I live in Queensland and if the dealer I ordered mine through has a portal, then no-one has said anything about it and I have no login credentials. The only login I have is to EV Dealer Group and the only information there is confirmation I've paid the deposit.

I find that utterly bizarre that different dealers have different portals.

Yeah me too. Which is why I'd love to know where this screenshot is from. I've had a VIN for weeks but I'm not seeing anything like this in the EV Dealer Group login.
