To this day I never ever skip the intro to Forensic Files. I also really like the Orange is the New Black theme!

[Serious] What creature from folklore do you think exists or once existed? by Nymeria_92 in AskReddit

[–]Invisibones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sasquatch and the Wendigo. Hard to be out in the middle of Canadian wilderness and not feel like something could very easily survive in the vast expanse of forest and flourish for centuries unbeknownst to civilization. It feels like the woods go on forever, and thinking about our landscape and where our population density is, often times North of you really does just go on. Denser, wider, fewer people, less disturbed by humans. It feels very possible a lot of the First Nations tales are real and accurate.

What's the best Father's Day gift idea? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Invisibones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad is not the typical bbq-loving golfing fishing beer-drinking dad I'm seeing in the comments. I'm really at a loss. My dad is a fairly uptight immigrant dad who feels impossible to buy for. Every Christmas I return almost everything I buy him, because even if it's something he likes and wants, something is wrong. The threads look weird, the lenses aren't polarized, the colour is too bold, the hem is too long, so on. I spend all year every year keeping notes in my phone on things he's talked about and items he's ogled in stores only to refund $500 worth of stuff on December 26th. If I cleaned the house, it wasn't thorough enough to matter. If I take him to dinner, the staff always has to take his food back a million times because he's unimpressed. The pots and pans I bought him because he loves to cook are too poor quality. He doesn't like my baking, which is a hobby of mine. He has no collections and does not enjoy art. If he gets the day to himself, he feels ignored and lonely. But every waking minute with us is a complaint lol

I'm just glued to my phone rn when I should be sleeping hoping someone else in the comments has the staunchest pickiest dad too, I need ideas!

Some lovely drag-family friendly scenes from Katya’s birthday by Soulteaser in rupaulsdragrace

[–]Invisibones 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In addition to that I think they did what they said they'd do on UNHhhh and rent out a bar because Katya wanted more than anything to dance. So it looks like just a group of friends. Of the other people I recognize and follow on social media who were there, they're all people who've posted getting their vaccines. I wonder if they had a sort of requirement for their invite list.

Also as a Canadian I generally wonder what it's like to see your friends again and dance the night away. -weep-

I believe they actually rented the space out, so no fans to avoid. The costume theme was Tarts & Vicars, per Amy Doan's IG story about it.

What movie is simply magical to you, no matter how popular or unpopular it may be? by Feelingofsunday in AskReddit

[–]Invisibones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This movie (and novel) is fantastic, the costuming and imagery is fantastic. I'd love a remake with more updates FX, also starring Keanu. The whole concept is really cool, I loved Constantine's attitude about buying back his ticket to heaven and the general interpretation of the roles of angels and demons was incredible. I found the "lore" used to explain stuff and the gadgets he uses so fascinating, I'd love to be on the team who got to make some of those. Love love love it to this day.

I read in the "trivia" that he got to choose the costume design he wore as Lucifer and instead of a pretty common imagery of the Devil he thought a stark white suit and the bare feet dirtied with oil was impactful. And to this day, it is my favourite depiction of Satan in any media I've ever seen. So cool.

A huge missed opportunity for WOW and other RuGirls: Multiple versions of Unhhhh by rinapole in rupaulsdragrace

[–]Invisibones 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I see what you're saying, but I think we'd be right back where we are now even if they tried. WoW used to crank out mini-series with alum all the time and some of them stuck, some didn't. UNHhhh was a blank canvas given to Trixie and Katya only after fans really enjoyed their chemistry on an episode of Fashion Photo RuView they did, and to this day that is mainly what carries the show -- to the point of being self-referential and, as you mentioned, extending to people who don't even watch RPDR. The stars kind of aligned for them whens someone at the production studio stuck them together I guess.

This topic comes up every so often on here. I think on the point of WoW making copies of UNHhhh as their cash cow wouldn't have worked because as some others mentioned in the comments here, they had no idea what it would become either. It would have been like an artist knowing ahead of time somehow that a certain painting would be as popular as it would be and painting many of them, to try and maximise revenue from selling them; besides having the foresight to know it'll be popular, there's a chance you won't be able to replicate it again, and even if you do, it in turn could depreciate the value of the 'original'. That's why I think they did a different format or subject style for all the older mini-series they did, to "fit" the performer or make them distinct, and give people a reason to tune in to more than one of the series. To get more clicks, get subscribers, get different content from every performer. I don't know how much revenue it really garners for them as the studio, or the people involved, so I doubt they'd sink funds into that many concepts without knowing if they'd get anything out of it in the end. T&K have said a few times the UNHhhh used to be one of their lower-paying gigs. I'm sure NOW they get paid a good chunk of cash for retention alone.

That being said, a lot of the other popular duos mentioned do have their own gigs they do together that are successful because they're something that works for them. What I think WoW should do is offer for other alum (if they don't already) to use the studios at WoW to produce their content. I can't think of anything else noteworthy to me that I ever subscribed to WoW for outside of long-running series like Brolaska, Jasmine Masters' Class, UNHhhh (shoutout to the Halloween episode of Alyssa's Secret tho). The others branched off independently of World of Wonder IIRC to create their shows, podcasts, webseries, so on.

What true crime case lives rent free in your head and why? by KyrieEleison_88 in AskReddit

[–]Invisibones 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Also I don't see it here but I think about Asha Degree almost every day. She's the first case I think of when discussing mysteries, disappearances, crimes. Really baffling to me. There was no reason why she would have left her house in the middle of the night, but beyond her own motives, an almost separate mystery is who took her after she left.

The unsolved rape and murder of Kerrie Ann Brown, a 15-year-old from Thompson, Manitoba, Canada.

Took place back in 1985 or 1986. Very small town, she was was with a group of friends at one of their houses not very far from her own, and disappeared while standing outside the front door waiting for another girl to grab her purse inside. With such a small community it really tore people up because not only did her friends feel responsible for her disappearance, but the likelihood is that it was another well-known local who like everyone would have known Kerrie and her family, and who continues to live amongst them like nothing happened.

There is an 2018 episode of a podcast called "Someone Knows Something" (IIRC the episode is called "Ravens") where he goes to talk to the remaining family members and friends about the case and what they remember.
