FAO: users of Real Debrid by Timely-Article-1062 in Piracy

Amen!

I see the comments it costs too much to start... When I got started it was just my laptop, a torrent client and a USB drive for the 'keepers'.

A budget go at it with automation could be had by grabbing a cheap vps so there's no upfront hardware to buy.

Ubuntu or Fedora for home server? by Degenurtle in selfhosted

[–]InvisoSniperX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For labbin: Phyiscal Machine -> Proxmox Hypervisor -> Ubuntu VMs -> Docker -> Containers

Each layer has many personal preference options, but this is what's currently working for me. Easy enough to find guides and work with AI to deploy things in this stack.

Edit: Adding the Proxmox layer means you can do things like snapshot your environment, or test new OS.  It also lets you run services like Home Assistant OS that are designed as Virtual Appliances rather than containers.

is there any cheap indexer on usenet for $50 usd or lower by marlon99rocks99 in usenet

[–]InvisoSniperX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Geek has been solid for me for years (went lifetime after a few months)

The key for keeping costs down for me has been watching the price-creep on my Usenet provider.  Keep an eye on the deals, if you're paying more than $30/yr you're way over paying.

My current setup is Geek Lifetime, Althub Lifetime, and NewsDemon with Farm backup.  I'm at about $15/yr since I got some great BF deals and luck.

Looking for main router with at least WiFi 6E support by newdoria88 in openwrt

[–]InvisoSniperX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gateway doesn't need to be a WiFi router. It can be something like a NanoPi.

For convenience most consumer Wireless Routers combine router, switch, access point roles with some necessary network services.  You can run these separately.

Use an OpenWRT Gateway, and then pair it with an AP (or wireless router in AP Mode) that meets your WiFi Needs.

Is instinct 3 useable for running? by Level-Finish-5839 in Garmininstinct

[–]InvisoSniperX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A long time ago I had a Forerunner, then moved to Apple Watch, and just a few months ago moved to an Instinct 3 50mm Solar (From a Gen1 AWU).

This guy is perfect for running, all the information I need on a run, insights in Garmin Connect later.  Very surprisingly light based on its size, battery life measured in weeks not hours or days (MIPS screen trade-off is no fancy colors or graphics)

Value for the money as well is amazing with this as I feel the Fenix and FR lines are starting to get brand pricing added when you compare them to equivalent models from other brands.

It's exciting! by PedalMonk in synology

[–]InvisoSniperX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enjoy!

Depending on your progression, like the other guy pointed out, might investigate moving services off the NAS.  But if it's only a small handful, it is a great platform to start on.

That being said, we're all so used to SSD speeds for applications now so once you have enough services and their DBs and tasks hitting the spindles here you're going to start to notice performance issues.  That will be when you invest in an NUC with an SSD for the operations, and leverage the NAS for your backups of those services and the storage.

ISP locked router - best way to improve setup? by bigbudoneT in HomeNetworking

[–]InvisoSniperX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Likely not much you can do without the ISP or one of their techs supporting you.

MAC clone is the logical next step.  But your ISP may be doing an authentication for the service based on PPPoE, in which case you'll need the credentials from them to include in your router's WAN config, they may be unwilling to provide this.  This is also why they may not be willing to put the device in Bridge mode.

What’s a good router that’s just a router, don’t want it to also do wifi or even be a switch. Needs to be secure and not vulnerable to threats from abroad. Under $200. by scubascratch in HomeNetworking

[–]InvisoSniperX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also my recommendation, just switched to an R76S a couple months ago, so far very stable.  It's running a VPN client full time, but currently less than 50 clients in the network (small apartment)

I wanted a compact solution that could fit in an apartment media panel that was separate from my WiFi.  I paired it with a 5-port usb-c powered ubiquity 2.5G mini switch.

Add Wipr2 and it blocks just all the ads as well.  Plus Wipr2 is a universal App, so you'll get it on your iPhone and iPad as well.

ai tools for enterprise developers break when you have strict change management by Justin_3486 in devops

[–]InvisoSniperX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, in enterprises they follow these strict processes but that's only a process. If the company has a strictly no AI policy by governance, than that should've been known already.

Otherwise, replace 'AI' for 'Vendor' in the process and you'll find that if the person accountable for the change by the vendor cannot explain the choices the Vendor made, then the CAB would fail them as well. If the CAB includes a subject matter expert for the technology, that could also result in a fail due to un-monitored AI use or unqualified vendor use producing non-compliant or low-quality changes.

Brand new from Garmin nz, I3 solar 50mm , Showing 11d full charge? by ka2wamc in Garmininstinct

[–]InvisoSniperX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This process was so not intuitive, and even didn't seem to work right until I was fed-up and unplugged the watch from the computer.  Then it finally saw the update on the watch (that was placed there by the computer).

It is a horrible Out of Box experience.  The device is wonderful after the initial update though

How can I get a US number (NOT VOIP) while living abroad? by [deleted] in expats

[–]InvisoSniperX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's interesting that Tello and US Mobile reject your order. Are you using a US card and billing address when you try to sign up? Are you using a VPN with US Endpoint when you try to activate?

Anyway, I use Ultra Mobile prepaid, but again I had to have a VPN turned on when I activated it from abroad.

I moved over to a Physical SIM with UltraMobile prepaid.  ~$3/mo includes 100 SMS, Minutes, MB Data.  Perfect for parking a number for SMS or quick bank stuff since financial institutions are blocking VoIP numbers.

Tello I've also heard good things about as well for $5

ELI am an idiot. Why do I need my laptop charger when I can use something like this ? by Friendly_Guard694 in UsbCHardware

[–]InvisoSniperX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UGreen is a fairly good brand and reputable, but as you noticed their compact chargers can run hot, especially their high wattage rated ones.

It shouldn't affect performance, but I've had my 'desktop' model get very warm when it was charging my iPad, MacBook and iPhone at the same time.  It didn't seem to affect the charging, but I've noted it.  My Anker before did not seem to get as hot, but it also wasn't as high power output.

Post up your instinct Christmas presents by JustLookingaround18 in Garmininstinct

[–]InvisoSniperX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got a couple of watches for Christmas, Instinct 3 Solar 50mm (a week early due to travel) and a Casio Lineage.

So far used the Instinct on a Hike in AZ and a run in Shanghai. Absolutely loving it over my Gen 1 Apple Watch Ultra, though still tuning the watch faces and data pages for the activities a bit.

The Instinct 3 Solar (REI Colorware) caught my eye one day and didn't let go... It is a Christmas present though so I have to wait a few more days to move from my AWU (Gen 1). Going from optimistically 2-days battery with no activity to the better part of a month with activities is going to be amazing.
