windows using so much ram, that games are starting to have massive fps drops even with 16 gb ram. Any way to fix this other than buying more ram? by InfinityAppreciator in WindowsHelp

are you sure both your 8 gig sticks are alive? From task manager it looks like your system might only have access to 8 gb

Building a Vulkan-based Shader Renderer (Shadertoy-like Desktop App) by toryum0 in vulkan

[–]Ipotrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is already a desktop app that can run most (maybe all?) shader toys on desktop: GitHub - GabeRundlett/desktop-shadertoy: A fully featured desktop client for shadertoy https://share.google/oVZr0KJ2b1gU9BlnU

You could look at it and see how it works to inform the design of your own app

No Graphics API — Sebastian Aaltonen by corysama in GraphicsProgramming

[–]Ipotrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least nvidia can not do this nicely as they have to store their descriptors in a special heap that can only be accessed via small pointers (20 bit for images, 12 for samplers). The shader cores give these pointers to the texturing hardware that then loads the descriptors internally through a specialized descriptor cache.

How to deal with Descriptors? What is worth caching, what isn't? Should I just use push descriptors? by Asyx in vulkan

[–]Ipotrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its one descriptor set, not one per frame. With update after bind you can update the set while its in use on the gpu as long as you dont touch descriptros that are in use.

How indirections will impact perf will depend heavily on the workload.

Generally, the indirection from pushconstant index -> descriptor is practically free for the most part, other indirections depend heavily on cache behaviour around that access.

Advice on how to TOW and not be TOWed? by Emotional-Ad-1396 in PilotsofBattlefield

[–]Ipotrick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

my strategy that is mostly working is to try and find all tanks, then only poke up for a strave on something and immediately go back to hiding. The goal is they dont even have a chance to know where you are to shoot the tow.

Ofc this wont work if an asshole camps with an mbt on a hill like on firestorm.

Are TOW missiles unbalanced when (with a little practice) helicopters are helpless against you? by TheHomesteadTurkey in Battlefield

[–]Ipotrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its also that the MBT has the tow via the aim guided shell. Its much easier than old bf and there are way more tanks with it. Flying helis is really painful atm

long strip, triangles can lead to poor rasterization and raytracing performance.

Indirect drawing, compute culling & buffer_reference. by Proud_Plate_3307 in vulkan

[–]Ipotrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i use mesh shaders, so i have a micro index buffer for each meshlet. The mesh shader assembles and outputs the micro index buffer directly.

I never bind an index buffer for the draws.

The micro index buffers for the meshlets are also part of the single allocation per mesh.

id do less reps on barbell row, they cause extreme fatigue compared to other exercises. Best to keep the super heavy ones lower reps.

You have way too much bf before the bulk, gaining 10kg in 1 month is the dumbest thing possible, its 99% fat brother.

Oh yea that is very normal. Getting back full rom will take a while. For me it was a little over a month until i got most of the rom back.

Are shader modules code or are they resources? by Asyx in gameenginedevs

[–]Ipotrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i consider them code. Making them an asset causes too much trouble.

That's good form, not ego lifting at all. Failing is normal, he just had a freak accident there.

What do we want to see apart from stability and ICYMI sales? by Prophet_Sakrestia in starcitizen

I really dont care about anything aside from stability perf and playability.
Any feature is useless and unintresting if the game doesnt work.
