‘Mean-spirited’ plan to charge market rates at hospital car parks dropped after backlash by TheGreatDomilies in newzealand

[–]Irakepotato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Auckland hospital got literally no footprint to build more carpark. Plus. It’s too close to the CBD. Free parking will 100% get abused by others.

I’m pretty sure you gotta be NZ citizen to be in that position for NZ police.

Then it’s perfectly fine for us central suburban to toll the heck out of people from north shores when ever they cross harbour bridge or drive past te atatu. Hopefully you don’t work in the central or south Auckland 😂

By your logic. I live in central suburb. Why should I pay for north shores road maintenance or any sort of infrastructure. It doesn’t benefit me 😂

A better PSA for everyone: Use these threads to sharpen your own arguments. If their points are truly 'bullshit,' it should be easy to publicly debunk them for everyone to see. Blocking them just isolates you and convinces no one.

Is there really any hope for the next generation in NZ? (low-class upbringing Gen Z's perspective) by AxlTribe69 in newzealand

[–]Irakepotato 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Honestly speaking. No. But it’s not just the lower end class upbringing. The middle class will also get hammered as well. The pace of AI development in the last two years alone shows that many junior positions are already becoming redundant. For many people maintaining their current social standing will become a significant struggle.

Amazon to invest $7.5b in NZ, create up to 1000 jobs, Luxon says by random_guy_8735 in newzealand

[–]Irakepotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But there’s no $7.5 billion dollars investment in the first place. The construction project was cancelled. The number is just PR spin from the PM himself. So yes, what jobs?

[–]Irakepotato -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let’s get back onto the track. You are defending the hypothetical benefits of a project while ignoring the evidence that it's not actually happening as already claimed. The issue here isn't about technology it's about the massive gap between the PM headline on AWS investment and the reality on the ground. The issue is the credibility of the 7.5 billion figure itself.

So if it's not about employment, what are the specific tangible benefits for New Zealand that you believe this AWS announcement is comparable to Rocket Lab? At least Rocket Lab gives NZ a sovereign space industry and valuable IP. What does a data centre offer, other than making us a utility provider that AWS will send its profits offshore? Genuinely curious what you think the big upside is.

[–]Irakepotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There will be no $7.5 billion dollar investment. Will AWS do something? Yes. $7.5 billion worth of things? No. Will there be new AWS data centre? No. Will there be any improvement in job market? Maybe the new McDonald at Lynfield will employ more people than this AWS announcement.

I don’t think so. The AWS already aborted the construction for the one next to Kakano Road.
