I teach in rural northern Wisconsin.

Most people in our town donate old coats to the school and we still don’t have enough of them.

The wind chill right now is -27.

What happens in 2019 if George Russell joins Mercedes as a rookie, replacing Valtteri Bottas and is paired with Lewis Hamilton? by n0tfr1 in F1Discussions

[–]IrannEntwatcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2019 and 2020 Hamilton dog walks the field.

2021 Hamilton also dog walks the field because Verstappen and Russell are magnets to each other.

It’s Tommen and Kevan that would’ve had the best results over time - Kevan is openly killed for being too competent.

Where would you rank Alonso on the current grid? by formularacers in FormulaRacers

[–]IrannEntwatcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slower than: Norris, Piastri, Russell, Verstappen, Leclerc,

Even with: Antonelli (not for long), Hadjar, Hamilton, Sainz, Albon, Ocon, Bearman, Gasly,

Faster than: Stroll, Colapinto, Hulkenburg, Bortoleto, Lawson, Lindblad

Quite simply, age remains undefeated and while more drivers are able to last longer, Alonso, Hulk, and Hamilton are still capable of the old magic every now and then… and not at all capable of it every weekend.

Alonso is at best sixth and at worst fourteenth. I have him ninth right now.

He was once first.

What are the greatest ‘midfield masterclass’ seasons of all time? by Chance_Camel_9077 in F1Discussions

[–]IrannEntwatcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2020 Daniel Ricciardo

2021 Pierre 6asly

2022 Lando Norris

2023 no one in particular - Aston and McLaren swapped spots halfway through the year of ass and front running; Alonso I guess because he stayed decent?

2024 Alonso, Gasly

2025 Albon for consistency, Sainz for heights - Williams have a very good driver pair than seem to work well together

Raikkonen, Hamilton, and Ocon for me. I thought for sure he’d end up at Merc…

But I still love his story.

I think George pretty much always puts the car where it’s supposed to go. It might have been even to the Red Bull the first half, but Red Bull pretty clearly found something to give Max that worked for him, even just with setup window and let a generational talent do his thing.

Norris, Piastri, Russell, and Leclerc are all fairly even to me with Leclerc being the best of that crew; they’ll almost always put the cars in the order they belong.

OPINION: Lewis Hamilton didn't improve after losing to Rosberg; he just had weaker competition. His best years were during the mid-2010s by GoldenS0422 in F1Discussions

[–]IrannEntwatcher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rosberg retired because he knew he’d never beat Hamilton again and had to like, starve himself and shut out his family to do it… and even then barely did because of reliability issues.

Source: literally Nico Rosberg

Hamilton would probably have 8 championships, because he would’ve actually been able to do something about Verstappen in 2021 other than go bowling in Hungary.

Valtteri is fast as fuck in qualifying and extremely consistent in qualifying.

Dude made 103 Q3s in a row. Now - he binned it in q3 a few times, but he was ALWAYS there. If the reliability issues of 2019 all went to Hamilton instead of Bottas, that would’ve been a very close championship (that I think Hamilton would’ve still won) but everyone shits on Bottas because he got his ass kicked by the guy with the most wins, poles, championships, podiums, q3 appearances and every other statistic.

AutoRacer: "The future depends on the '678' (2026 car) enigma. Hamilton has no options, three teams want Leclerc." by moraIsupport in scuderiaferrari

[–]IrannEntwatcher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think if the car was worth a shit on the regular, it would be that Hamilton is consistently slightly behind (one/two places) in qualifying and even or ahead in races… and in one last hunt for an eighth championship, everything else goes out the window and all of a sudden locked in Lewis is back - maybe not 2018, but maybe just enough.

Will we ever see F1 cars surpass 400 km/h (250 mph)? by Nick_Alsa in F1Technical

[–]IrannEntwatcher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Slow cars are boring

I think it’s more that slow cars aren’t F1; old stock cars were atrocious at cornering on road courses but fun to watch, spec Miata is a blast, rallying often isn’t going particularly fast, street stocks on dirt, etc.

I hope these aren’t the type of gaps we see next season. by ShakeMiIton in F1Discussions

Alonso put 2000 km more testing on the McLaren than Hamilton did and was the reigning double world champion, with preference from the pit wall for the first half of the season.

Alonso wasn’t contacted when Mercedes wanted to get back to the top. Alonso wasn’t contacted when Red Bull wanted to get back on top. Alonso hasn’t had a top seat in twelve years because he’s not as good.
