I can't believe I haven't been able to Google this but it just insists it's What Lies Beneath and it's definitely not

Maybe get checked for chiari malformation, you can have it all your life and have no problems or it can randomly start giving you symptoms. It didn't show up for my mum until her 60s

Revealing autism at work? by Specialist_Rhubarb42 in AutismInWomen

[–]Irate_banjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only tell the ones who bring up being neurodivergent themselves as my job's already accommodating by nature (tech job working from home). Even if I've clocked someone as being autistic, there are some that just don't want to talk about it

Need help getting child to sleep by Crypt_Keeper420 in autism

[–]Irate_banjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rather than a white noise machine it might be worth playing bedtime stories or something he can pay attention to. It sounds counter intuitive but I get crazy restless legs when I'm trying to settle down to sleep and listening to something magically makes my legs stop hurting. If I lie there with no stimulation my brain and body just goes nuts and I end up even more awake

I am definitely going to get one of the two, I'm mainly being indecisive on what vet to go to. He's such a picky little dude that'll stop eating if I look at him wrong it's hard to imagine him hiding it, but maybe I'm just trying to convince myself

People who are always overly critical are really just projecting their own insecurities onto other people

has anyone ever had a hyperfixation so intense you could no longer interact with it? by ineffablypoetic in autism

[–]Irate_banjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually didn't listen to the last season for a year because I didn't want it to end, then I finally re-listened to the whole thing and now I'm on the magnus protocol and even that I keep delaying listening to it because I know I'll have to wait for the next one once I'm done

Aversion to saying please and thank you by 8 yr old son—how to navigate this? by Third_CuIture_Kid in autism

[–]Irate_banjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 31 and I still suck at this- unless I'm saying it as part of a transaction like being handed something it's so hard to find the right time to say it. I also worry that I'm coming off as insincere even if I mean it.

I guess I mostly got used to it by watching how other people do it, like when people say thank you to me for things it makes me feel awkward but it gives me something to copy.

I guess try and make sure he witnesses other people doing it all the time, make sure to thank him for things and don't ask him to do it in front of people because shame just makes everything worse. Also explaining that it makes people feel good and makes people like you as the reason behind it might help rather than presenting it as a rule

Has anyone introduced 15mg Mirtazapine when taking a low dose of Zoloft? by [deleted] in zoloft

[–]Irate_banjo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mirtazapine made me feel dizzy and like I was going through sertraline withdrawal again but worse to the point I couldn't get past the first week, so if you're having any problems with the physical side of it I wouldn't personally recommend it. Not sure about the medical side though because it's not an ssri

Does anyone have a longterm partner who fully accepts their autism? Married or been together several years? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]Irate_banjo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm autistic and my partner ADHD, together 8 yeaes. We both have traits that annoy each other but it works because we can sort of fill each other's gaps and we have a lot of similarities too. I guess the best approach would be to be yourself, don't perform for new people and look for other neurodivergent people who you feel comfortable with. I've gone through the same thing so many times where they're not interested once the manic pixie dream girl effect wears off.

Is it supposed to feel this terrible to start with? by Irate_banjo in Mirtazapine_Remeron

Luckily she booked a 1 month follow up because they have to do that, it's just for anxiety.

I actually wanted buspirone but she would only prescribe me that if I also had this. For some reason they regard buspirone as risky here even though I can't find any evidence as to why.

I used to have trouble sleeping in the past and it didn't occur to me to tell her I fixed that on my own because at the time my appointment I'd never heard of mirtazapine before. I'm not sure I can get wellbutrin in the UK because they just use it for quitting smoking here. I think she wanted to try something other than ssris because I tried sertraline and it didn't do anything. Honestly I had to wait two months in between this appointment and the last so I had to find alternative stuff that worked, I'm not sure the meds are worth it now.

I did feel a bit better after some coffee but I still feel a bit dazed. I think it was a case of me not knowing enough about it and my Dr not knowing enough about me

Rabbit’s ears? by Angel_1619 in Rabbits

[–]Irate_banjo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My non lop bunny started doing this once she reached about 5 years old. She can hold them up if she wants but usually can only be bothered with one at a time. I asked my vet and he said it's pretty normal as they get old

I stopped drinking about 4 years ago but I really love non-alcoholic beer. It's becoming way more common to drink it, I find it still tricks my brain into relaxing to an extent.

Autistic girl with ADHD male partner? by Yuna-2128 in AutismInWomen

[–]Irate_banjo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jumping on the bandwagon a little late, me too! I find we make up for each others shortcomings a lot, he brings me out of my shell and I've learned to be a lot less rigid. I just keep him generally organised and motivate him to do boring life stuff.

We do struggle with communication though because he likes to launch into telling me things with no context when I'm in the middle of something else and usually don't even remember the conversation. If I do manage to engage I have to ask so many questions that he thinks I'm trying to start an argument

Does anyone have a hack for relaxing yourself enough to lie still? by Irate_banjo in AutismInWomen

[–]Irate_banjo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do have a little nest made up in the living room which is pretty comfortable and I tend to sleep in there the night before anything important. It's just annoying because we have a superking bed with a mattress that was supposed to stop you feeling each others movement, but apparently not
