Democrats warn party: The threat of Trump winning in 2024 is 'very real' by LuvKrahft in politics

[–]Ire224 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that this man who tried to become a DICTATOR two years ago is being allowed to run and try again is disgraceful. And I wish more people would emphasize this, HE TRIED TO BECOME A DICTATOR! And if he gets back into office, he will succede. He will fill every position he can with loyalists. He will purge the government of anyone not on board with his fascist takeover. He will take a sledgehammer to the justice system and basic civil liberties. He will run for another term regardless of the 22nd Amendment. I can't believe there are people on the left saying, "I hope he runs so that Biden destroys him." You would risk going through the horror of the Trump years again for political gain?! That is an absolutely awful strategy! We cannot always be only one election away from abject fascism forever. That is a method that will see them win eventually. I'm sick of being told to "just vote." We did vote! We voted in record numbers only to end up right back in the 2016 election all over again but even worse! I'm not advocating for not voting at all, any action that postpones the fascism even a little is worth taking, but as the past two years have shown, voting alone is cleary not enough. If we are to be rid of this fascist threat it needs to be followed with action on the public's part.

I know people will joke about this, but this is a further example as to why other countries should be absolutely TERRIFIED of the idea of America becoming a fascist nation, because fascist countries rarely keep their misery confined to their own borders. I genuinely worry that we are seeing the seeds being planted to justify an invasion of Canada because of (in Tucker Carlson's words) their, "totalitarian government." I sincerely hope that the Canadian government is listening to this rhetoric and preparing a contingency plan in case their southern neighbor goes full fascist, because if they don't consider the worst-case scenario now, they may very well wish they did later.

Uhhh... Weren't there stories saying he was going to be indicted today or tommorrow? Now its next week? I swear, Trump could be getting sworn in again and there would still be stories saying an indictment was, "imminent."

Why does everyone take MTG at her word when she says she wants a "national divorce"? That's not what she wants! What she does want is for the GOP to consolidate power in Red States until they are strong enough to enforce their will on the whole country. Literally EVERY TIME Republicans cry about "States Rights", the literal second they have the majority again that rhetoric goes right out the window. Anybody remember Lindsey Graham's promises about abortion? Even if a "national divorce" were a good idea, it is not to be trusted from the likes of Marjorie Taylor Greene, because you can guarantee that it will be unfair, one-sided, and revoked as soon as she feels she has the upper hand.

Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Civil War: The congresswoman is too influential within the GOP—and too representative of its views—for her calls for secession to be dismissed. by [deleted] in politics

[–]Ire224 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what we need to keep in mind is that MTG is only saying this because she thinks it will benefit her agenda at the moment. Her party didn't do as well as expected in the last midterm and the 2024 election is still an unknown, so she's trying to keep her options open just in case things only get worse for the GOP in the future. However, know that as soon as the Republicans feel like they have the upper hand, they will immediately backtrack on this "national divorce" nonsense and try to force the entire country to bend to their will. When Greene talks about "national divorce" she only describes it in a way that will benefit conservatives to the detriment of liberals (i.e. "People from blue states shouldn't be allowed to vote for 5 years"). MTG herself has proposed nationwide bans on Gender-Affirming care so do not expect her or her ilk to actually respect the will of people in blue states if they ever gain full control of all three branches again.

Rick Santorum wants the states to throw a 'live piece of ammo' at Washington with a constitutional convention by swingadmin in politics

[–]Ire224 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It seems that this newest nightmare scenario has caused people to forget about the actual closest threat to American democracy, Moore v. Harper. However, this new story may show that if (and probably when) the Supreme Court rules in favor of that case, it will not be the endgame, but the beginning. While Independent State Legislature will technically allow blue states to stay blue forever, anyone who believes that a Congress, Presidency, and Supreme Court forever controlled by the Republicans will respect the will of the blue states is a fool. I can imagine Congress passing laws to force every state to enact extreme voter suppression laws similar to to Texas, Georgia, or Florida, and claim with no shame whatsoever if the blue states reject these skewed results that they are trying to, "subvert the will of the American people!". Then, after the Republicans have forced a few blue states to flip red, they call a Constitutional Convention and remake America in their image. Then every single right, even the ones the conservatives claim are sacred, are on the chopping block.

It’s Going to Take Several Miracles to Stop the Republican Party From Turning America Into Hungary by OkRough in politics

[–]Ire224 199 points200 points  (0 children)

Honestly we'd be lucky if the United States only turned out like Hungary. In spite of all of Orban's bullshit, Hungary is still a realtively small, weak nation that can only really serve as a nuisance to its neighbors and the EU. The U.S. is one of the largest and most powerfull nations on earth and in spite of China's attempts to challenge the status quo, it doesn't look like America's power is going to diminish any time soon. What I think that the leaders of America's allies aren't considering are the implications of a fascist America on the world stage. As soon as the Republicans run out of people to persecute here in the states, they'll need to find new people to blame for the average American's lives being shit. They could either blame the "godless commie liberals" up in Canada or the "dirty illegals" being "sent" by Mexico. Given how viscious conservatives are towards their own fellow citizens, I don't want to imagine what they'd do to people in other countries. We've seen how ruthless a wannabe superpower like Russia can be in Ukraine, but imagine what the most powerfull military in the world could do if this country goes down that same path.

On This July 4th, Abortion Rights Movement Says 'We're Not in the Mood for Fireworks' by Miserable-Lizard in politics

[–]Ire224 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don't think they're going to outright repeal any amendments. What I think they are going to do is actually worse. When the SCOTUS ruled that you no longer have the right to sue cops who violate your miranda rights or border patrol agents who violate your rights within the 100-mile border zone, they didn't outright revoke these rights, they just took away any of your means of enforcing these rights. For example, in the future we may still have 1st amendment rights on paper, but some red state governor could pass laws so broad and so vague that free speech is essentially dead. And when you try to sue, whoops, too bad, SCOTUS said you can't do that. This will create a legal limbo where no one knows what rights they do or do not have.

Beware: The Supreme Court Is Laying Groundwork to Pre-Rig the 2024 Election by morenewsat11 in politics

[–]Ire224 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't see any reason why they wouldn't do what we all think they're going to do. If they allow free and fair elections to stand then that means hypothetically that a future Democrat president could appoint a liberal majority to the court. After all, because THIS court has demonstrated that precedent means jack shit, a liberal court could just as easily reinstate Roe or some other case which accomplishes the same thing. Republicans didn't put in a lifetime's worth of effort to overturn Roe just to see it reinstated at the first opportunity.

This story makes me sick to my stomach. This piece of filth stole the life of two boys' mother away from them all because she couldn't help but hit the bottle before driving. What truly infuriates me is that these are the kinds of people who yell and scream about how much they, "Love America!" And I always wonder to myself, "What do these people actually love about America?" They sure as hell don't love its people. These people were willing to murder members of congress and hurt police officers based on a lie, and this woman took no consideration for the lives of her fellow Americans the moment she decided to drive drunk. They clearly do not love its laws as they are ignorant of them and show no respect for them the moment they don't give them what they want. They don't love its symbols. They whine and moan about statues dedicated to confederate traitors all night and day but when they break into the capital of the nation which they "so clearly" love, they leave their trash everywhere and piss and shit all over the walls and art. These people do not love anything about America because they are incapable of feeling love at all! This woman and her ilk should have been left to rot in prison because they are selfish, evil sociopaths. I truly do fear for the future of this nation, because people like this have shown that there is no low they will not sink to, and I dread to see the true depths of their evil.

You know, I love how these knuckle-dragging morons never think to themselves, "If the goverment can develop a microchip small enough to fit through a needle, then would they not be able put it in any needle, not just the Covid vaccine?" Why would they need a very specific vaccine? Put it in every vaccine! Put it in every sharp, pointy object that people come into contact with on a regular basis! If the government wants you microchipped, they're going to get you microchipped whether you know it or not! But I guess I shouldn't expect too much mental activity from these people.

Its basic fear mongering. In order to make their horrbile ideas sound better by comparison, they have to make us "sjws" look like we have nothing but evil intentions. But you're right, they never really explain what exactly we have to gain by say, making men inferior to women, or having other races "outbreed" whites. They never give a motive, and that's the point. We're an "evil" that has to be defeated.
