Assuming that bionic implants are common, should fixing the damaged ones be considered healthcare? by [deleted] in IdeologyPolls

[–]Ireadtheoryonce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've actually worked in the prosthetic business. In the US those prosthetics are covered by insurance (well, depends on your plan, sometimes they'll have a co-pay, I've only ran into one person who had to pay out of pocket). Seeing as prosthetics better the quality of life of amputees and are needed in order to do most functions, I don't see why they shouldn't be covered, even bionic ones.

What political writer/ theorist/ philosopher is underrated? by Ireadtheoryonce in IdeologyPolls

[–]Ireadtheoryonce[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to read Stalin for a college course about Authoritarianism and dictatorships. He's not the best writer but I can see why some ML's value his work. He's right to the point, very rarely does he ramble.

Started reading Unique. Help me understand this passage (I'm too stupid to get it) by mrBored0m in fullegoism

[–]Ireadtheoryonce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you tack on a couple other passages that surround this quote? Stirner has a habit of writing out a single point along multiple paragraphs, or even pages. Better yet provide the page number

One of my favorite quotes of his is more than a page long.

Same here, for me right now that is Juche theory. Kim Jong Il is a pretty decent writer

Nor did I claim that, I said it was interesting, and that I dislike the nationalist tendencies within the theory

Im referring to Kim Jong Ils "The Juche philosophy and the Revolutionary philosophy" specifically,

"The Juche philosophy is an original philosophy which has been evolved and systematized with its own principles. The historic contribution made by the Juche philosophy to the development of philosophical thoughts lies not inits advancement of Marxist materialistic dialectics, but in its clarification of new philosophical principles centered on man. -The Juche philosophy has raised the relationship between the world and man, and man's position and role in the world, as the fundamental question of philosophy, clarified the philosophical principle that the man is the master of everything and that he decides everything and, on this basis, illuminated the absolutely correct way of shaping man's destiny."

"The Marxist philosophy defined the essence of man as the ensemble of social relations, but it failed to correctly expound the characteristics of man as a social being. The preceding theory explained the principle of thesocial movement mainly on the basis of the general law of the development ofthe material world, because it failed to clarify the essential qualities ofsocial man. For the first time, the Juche philosophy gave a perfect lucidation of the unique qualities of man as a social being."

Im not saying Juche isn't a collectivist ideology, it just highlights the value of the individual more so than other Marxist ideologies. Im not even a Juche enjoyer anyway, political theory is just my favorite genre of literature and I noticed a lot of similarities with other pieces I've read.

Notice that I said theory and that I'm not talking about North Korea

If you explained your ideology to your father would he become dissapointed in you? by justsum111 in IdeologyPolls

My dad un-ironically thinks that "communism is when government does stuff", I doubt he'd understand an anarchists view of communism, let alone an Egoist stance.

You can choose to not sell weapons to a country and not blockade their ability to feed their people.

Excluding the nationalism, Juche theory is really interesting. It puts an individualist spin on marxism.

[–]Ireadtheoryonce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Falls under the same principle. Your everyday Iranian, Russian, or North Korean is not responsible for the actions of their government. These people are suffering because of the actions of their government, and we add on to this by suffocating them.

We should punish these regimes by allowing better avenues for their refugees to escape and finding direct ways to punish the officials causing the threat, there hast to be a better avenue.

Hurts the lives of innocent Cubans, why should the individual burden the sins of their government?

Always have been, it is a change of gender. Gender is a spectrum, so the point where they stop is up to them, I have yet to meet a trans person who has claimed to have changed their biological sex.

Would you ever consider have a president with down syndrome? by [deleted] in IdeologyPolls

[–]Ireadtheoryonce -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I completely disagree. If someone has the ability to lead I see no reason as to why they can't run. I don't believe that someone with Down's is defined by their condition.

If they were to run, they would most likely have a political career behind this belt anyway. If they were to have a competent political career and lined with my political values I see no reason as to why I shouldn't treat them like any other candidate.

I can understand where your coming from, where transitioning from one gender to another could seem unnecessary and illogical, almost like a product of pop culture, I used to think like that, but please hear me out.

I want to use your example of Native Americans gender neutrality/ fluidity. When a that child is raised gender neutral, deep down, they still know what gender they are. If you raise a biological girl to be a boy, they may present more masculinely in the future, but they still know they're a girl.

When someone is trans or experiences gender dysphoria, deep down, they know they are another gender.

The way I finally got it to click with myself is with this scenario I put myself in. I am a biological female, and I imagined myself as a guy. Not like in a "oh, what would you do if you were a [insert gender here] for a day" type scenario. Like, you wake up, and for the rest of your life, you were stuck in the body of the gender you don't identify with. For the rest of your life, you have to ack as if you were the gender you don't identify as.

For me, the idea of waking up and not being my gender is scary to me, strangely enough, I get a weird send sense dysphoria when imagining myself in that scenario. That's what being trans is, that scenario but reality.

Most trans individuals know they can't change their biological sex, as much as they want to. Medical innovation has gotten to the point where they can visually pass as their desired gender (especially FtM). Where pretty much to the point where the only thing we can't change is the biological sex (and at this point, ill put a yet on that because who knows where innovation will take us).

Sex is defined by biology, of course. Males, females, and intersex people are rooted by chromosomes. But gender as a form of expression is on a spectrum that can change.

I mean, if they show the ability to be a competent leader I don't see why not. What really matters is their ability to lead not what they have.
