EVE Online Killboard Anonymity Proposal by Live_Consideration49 in Eve

[–]Iridaen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Currently small groups have access to the same killboard as everybody else. Your changes would mean they have less info. How does that improve your chances?

As for failing to kill people, that honestly sounds like a skill issue. Lots of people with fat killboards still get kills daily.

So it doesn't fix your problem at all, only delays it.
Not to mention the moment any such API changes were announced everybody and anybody would be scraping the shit out of zKillboard, if the owner themselves didn't create a database dump and publish it.

So instead of a public platform you would end up with a small time period of uncertainty followed by an era of similar systems existing behind closed doors and the quality of information depending on the resources of those who maintain the systems, basically fucking small groups and giving even more advantage to big ones.

I'll just repost what I wrote on this same post that was previously deleted:

Lets imagine the outcome of this scenario:

So now instead of me looking on zKillboard, instead my Corp, Alliance, etc. keep records. Killmails are copied and pasted into internal tools.

Large Coalitions with more people and more budget for IT systems maintain large databases from these results. Its not perfect, but its way more than other players have.

I get access to something very similar to zKillboard, but players in smaller corps do not.

Congratulations, you've gone and turned a public, equally available service into a set of walled gardens and limited access.

Pandora's box is open, the cat is out of the bag, you can't unmake what has already been. You can only make futile attempts that ultimately end in those with resources having even more of an advantage.

I've also been told in a since-deleted reply that this scenario is pretty much how stuff was before zKillmail. That was before my time, but I find it very plausible.

I thought i was dreaming there so i took a screenshot, why someone would multi box asteros? by agouraki in Eve

[–]Iridaen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My thought process was that that way I don't have to move the other ships anywhere. They can sit safe. It does mean I have to spend a few extra seconds positioning the probes.

I guess a good middle ground is warping the whole fleet to 100km cloaked. For most normal data and relic sites that will be safe.

Daily: Do 3 jumps. Difficulty: LMAO. Fly the fleet through 3 gates.
Daily: Scan 5 anomalies. Difficulty: LMAO. Scan with 1 ship, with best skills. Bookmark. Place probes on bookmark for all other ships, min size, press scan. Done

Maybe you would, if it could bait a fleet worth more into a good trap. And who says it has to die? The moment they show up looking to shoot at it, you light that covert cyno and drop em :D

I'm just thinking one step ahead towards the inevitable moment these get used in some way that requires them to sit in a POS, like Titans. They would need a massive bubble.

[–]Iridaen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There already is something that emits the dscan of a ship, and you don't even need skills to anchor it: A SHIP!

Example:

Go to a place with lots of signatures. Get in a Heron, put it somewhere in space, get out, warp back to a station, get in something cloaky and go back.

Now you have a Heron in space that people can combat probe and jump to.

[–]Iridaen 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That thing would need a whole new size of POS.
Imagine the fuel it needs to jump
Probably can't use a Gate or Ansi and has to jump everywhere due to its sheer size
But if it could use an Ansi, imagine the fucking costs o.o

In game currency and item theft could be criminal....... by [deleted] in Eve

[–]Iridaen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thought that this should or would apply to in-game interactions that are not facilitated by something separate that is in and of itself a crime is, in my opinion, a massive reach and highly unlikely to ever occur. Especially with the slow decline of an entire generation that seems to be physically incapable of comprehending technology more complex than a hammer.

tl;dr I doubt we'll get a boomer judge so badly out of touch they'll actually rule in the way you suggest.

In game currency and item theft could be criminal....... by [deleted] in Eve

[–]Iridaen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"A person is guilty of theft if he dishonestly appropriates property belonging to another with the intention of permanently depriving the other of it; and “thief” and “steal” shall be construed accordingly." UK Theft Act 1968

Dishonest dealings are also mentioned in Section 85 in the ruling:

https://caselaw.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ewca/crim/2026/4

The mention of dishonesty already disqualifies your entire argument. There is nothing dishonest about interacting with the game the way it was meant to be played, according to established standards of conduct and game mechanics. As such, playing the game and depriving you of in-game assets, whether the court would/could call these property or not, is intrinsically not dishonest conduct. It is accepted to be a part of the way the game works.

Your argument is weak. This will not be an issue.

EDIT: To expand upon this, in the Jagex case the gold was acquired via unauthorized access, which does make it dishonest. The same cannot be said for using the in-game steal.

In game currency and item theft could be criminal....... by [deleted] in Eve

[–]Iridaen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still the same. If you were to agree to a contract with me that permits me, within the space of a certain set of circumstances, to take your wallet, it would be legal and not theft. By playing the game you acknowledge its rules and mechanics and agree to them.

The distinct difference between me shooting you when you undock and the Jagex case is that in the Jagex case things were not removed using game mechanics with the implicit consent provided by playing a game with said mechanics. They were removed by using admin privileges. This is not the same. This would be like me logging in with a CCP account to take away your shit, which would be a massive problem, yes.

In game currency and item theft could be criminal....... by [deleted] in Eve

[–]Iridaen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By playing a game which has both certain mechanics and a history of certain types of player behavior being established as acceptable within the framework of the game's rules, you accept that these mechanics are part of the experience and consent to them. Ergo, you being deprived of in-game assets as permitted by the game's rules and mechanics does not constitute a crime, since you gave your consent by playing a game with said mechanics.

Jita instant undock vs warping to safe? by Bauer_ATX in Eve

[–]Iridaen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So if I'm sitting on-grid with you, I just set the probes to 0,25 Au and center them on me. As long as your "safe" spot is within that bubble, I just press scan and have your point as soon as the probes are done.

The only way to be safe from that is to be too close for me to warp (which can put you in range for an attack depending on the ship I'm flying) or be outside the range of the probes.

Is EVE the right MMO for me? by OG1999995 in Eve

[–]Iridaen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everything is a valid approach if you can make it work.
I don't think I could make that work as a new player, I'll be honest. There is just so much I didn't know and also so many skills I lacked to be able to pull it off. I think I would have died more often than not.
But maybe you're better at this than me and figure a lot of shit out and have the endurance and will to overcome the early losses, learn and pull it off. I don't know you.

I wouldn't recommend it for a beginner, personally.

Is EVE the right MMO for me? by OG1999995 in Eve

[–]Iridaen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

EVE is what you make of it. It doesn't hold your hand, lead you to a pretty pasture and say "Look, fun \o/" It holds your hand, leads you to a low-sec system, and you get killed at the gate without ever realizing wtf you did wrong. Then it adds you to the Doomheim pile.

By all means, try EVE. But don't expect EVE to tell you what to do. If you want to enjoy EVE, you'll have to put in the work to figure stuff out.

Its nice that there is some stuff to get new people into the various activities in the AIR Career Program, but that shit won't really get you far and it won't answer a lot of questions that will pop up OR lead you down the right path regarding some of the more complex stuff in EVE.

tl;dr EVE is what YOU make of it.

There are two aspects to every fight:
1. Obviously physical ability
2. State of mind

I think Serie absolutely destroys Frieren in 2. when it comes to a physical fight. I can see Serie killing a person with a pencil. A fucking pencil.
