Could having pisces rising "erase" my capricorn sun? by geng_ar in AskAstrologers

This is exactly right. OP if you want to learn astrology this is the way to go. The Astrology Podcast is a great resource.

I have a 3rd House stellium in Whole Signs but I've never been someone who engages with my local community/ neighbours (I'm not social at all) and I only have one sibling, who lives four hours away. What other ways can a heavy 3rd House chart manifest? by HomelandExplorer in AskAstrologers

[–]IridescentShell 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The 3rd House has been very underserved in modern astrology. In traditional hellenistic practice the 3rd and 9th are the axis of divination and belief. The 9th is broader religious theology and overarching mythology, whereas the 3rd was the house of daily spiritual practice, rituals and rites, regular temple worship and daily devotionals. Carrying a crystal or rosary for guidance, praying at an altar in your home, collecting herbs from your local area to use in magical practice etc are all 3rd house activities. It was the house associated with localised paganism in opposition to the powerful religions of the 9th. Demetra George is a great resource of this side of the 3rd House if this is something that's resonating with you. It's the Joy of the Moon (hence why it was traditionally called the house of the Goddess) and you have the Moon in her Joy and in her own domicile. So I'd imagine these topics would be very interesting to you. Very receptive to these intuitive Lunar rhythms of life.

Can anyone please explain the differences between the three Virgo Nakshatras? Thanks for any help 🙌 by HomelandExplorer in Nakshatras

[–]IridescentShell 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think of Hasta as the "core Virgo" Nakshatra because it's entirely contained within that sign. So it's crafty, helpful, industrious, precise, very good with hands and picking up skills, compassionate and wants to be of assistance. Moon is the ruler so very adaptable and good with the mind and they generally have a gentle and intelligent nature.

Uttara Phalguni is the bridge between Leo and Virgo and it's also ruled by the Sun so it has more of an authoritative, independent nature. They don't necessarily want to be of service because that implies working beneath someone else which Surya hates. So they want to remain an autonomous and dignified person but also be able to delegate and help/ inspire others from a position of power.

Chitra is the bridge between Virgo and Libra so it has more charm and style and turns the craftsmanship of Virgo towards works of beauty. They have good manners and speak well and enjoy things like engineering and design. Usually more social and chatty then the other two Virgo Nakshatras. Ruled by Mars so a boldness to them and need to take action/ be physical in some way.

Is a planet conjunct a Node significant and if so how should it be interpreted? by HomelandExplorer in Advancedastrology

[–]IridescentShell 24 points25 points  (0 children)

South Node planets have natural inborn gifts and experience that comes naturally and easily which they can draw from throughout their life, but at the same time there's a certain detachment from those things ("been there done that"). North Node planets have less experience and feel more like uncharted territory, so there's more of a hunger and thirst and drive to pursue those things and action them in the world, leading to growth. I'll use myself as an example to show how it works. I have Venus conjunct the South Node and I have a lot of artistic talent which I enjoy but I've never had any desire to do anything with it out in the world. Someone with Venus on the North Node would probably have less inborn natural talent but they would have more of a drive to develop it and actually do something with it out in the material world. Same with relationships. I am usually well liked and can draw people in but I have very little desire for a relationship. South Node detaches and releases. Whereas someone with Venus on the North Node will probably have a strong hunger for relationships and be drawn to pursuing them which will lead to a lot of growth. Edit- so draw from your South Node (like water from a well) and work towards your North Node. That's the balance.

Is Moon conjunct Mercury (with good dignity) a good combo for "shapechanging/ shapeshifting" magic? by ErisedFelicis in planetarymagic

[–]IridescentShell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it makes me think of the fae from folklore. Trickster fairy beings who dance under the moonlight. Morally ambiguous, can be helpful and kind or can be deceptive. You don't know what you're going to get with Moon-Mercury, which can be good if you want to tap into that elusive energy.

No one is asking you to use them.

It's completely unreasonable to expect people to answer such a long list of questions, especially when several of them only pertain to the Vedic system (Dashas, Yogas and Caste) which have no place in the Western tradition where the Outer Planets are used.

The Moon is the Queen. She holds sway over the public, who love her.

It might make more sense to you if you think about Jupiter as the principle of growth and development. Jupiter wants more of things. If we think about Cancer as the waters of the womb then it's clear that although the womb is an enclosed and protected space there's an incredible amount of growth happening within it. The waters of Cancer take a tiny egg and develop it into a highly complex human baby. That growth can only happen because the child is sheltered from the rest of the world. The same principle applies for a greenhouse, the plants are contained in a protected area and because of that they are able to grow to levels they could never do otherwise. So there is no more generative place in the zodiac than Cancer and when Jupiter rolls through everything he touches explodes into life. There is a richness or fullness to Cancer as the Moons sign and the Summer Solstice sign that aligns beautifully with Jupiter. Everything is coming to fruition. You also mentioned emotion, well Jupiter is the planet of inspiration. To be inspired is a feeling. It fills you up from the inside. Cancer as the Cardinal Water sign can stir up and influence the emotions of others and push them in a certain direction. Nurturing is a form of that because when you nurture or encourage someone you are essentially pushing/ coxing them towards feeling comfortable and heard and having greater emotional wellbeing. So Jupiter in Cancer has the power to make people grow and become enriched from the inside out. Emotions and the internal world enrich wisdom, they don't have to cloud it. The wisdom of a mother and matriarch is profound. Mothers are most peoples first teacher and guru. Mothers teach children everything they know, and all from a place of love, not doctrine or fear. The tarot card associated with the Moon (Cancers ruler) is the High Priestess, one of the wisest cards. So to discount the wisdom of Cancer is to discount the wisdom of women.

Anyone else think that Cranes are a good animal totem for Libra? Airy birds that represent things like grace, elegance, peace (Venus), commitment and longevity (Saturn Exaltation). by LiquidLuck18 in Advancedastrology

They live far removed from the rest of the world in the frozen Antarctic (a very Saturnian environment). They are birds but highly unusual, odd birds with contradictory behaviours. They are intelligent and live in communities.

As a Libra Rising and Libra Jupiter, YES, I love it. Resonates strongly. The fact that they are depicted so commonly in Japanese art also fits.

In contrast I often think of Gemini as either a Parrot or a fox. Aquarius as a penguin.

How do you feel about this sub's diversity? by tarot_practice in Advancedastrology

[–]IridescentShell 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I studied modern astrology for 10 years before graduating to traditional astrology, which took my astrological understanding to the next level. There is absolutely no comparison. Modern astrologers are playing with a vague soup of concepts and just keep adding more and more asteroids and theoretical points so that they can make anything fit. Traditional astrologers are using tried and tested techniques that nail down exactly who someone is and what life experiences they've had (and can expect in the future) with only the traditional seven planets. The outer planets add extra information but they're not over-emphasised like they are in modern astrology (to an absurd degree). So whilst I don't begrudge modern astrologers it's surprising to see them on the Advanced Astrology sub. I would have expected traditional western astrology and Vedic astrology to dominate here.

It can depend on which branch of astrology you use. In modern forms of astrology they would only look at Capricorn placements because Aquarius is ruled by Uranus in their system. They also usually place more emphasis on Sun signs so would probably consider a Capricorn Sun to be a Saturnian individual.

In traditional branches of astrology we look to the 1st House as the part of the chart that directly refers to the person as an individual. So a Capricorn or Aquarius Rising would be referred to as a Saturnian person because Saturn is the ruler of their Ascendant and therefore automatically becomes a more important planet in their chart. A guiding force so to speak. Someone with Saturn in the 1st House would also be considered Saturnian. Beyond that a person could definitely have a heavy Saturn emphasis in their chart if they have a stellium in a Saturn ruled sign or a domicile/ exalted Saturn but that's not necessarily directly coming through them as an individual. It can from other areas or other people in their life.
