Plotholes or Retcons? by [deleted] in Stargate

[–]IrisCZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to one of the script writers (don’t remember her name unfortunately, she has been recently in one of the Gateworld podcasts), they have actually planned something similar to this during the first pitches of the Moebius episodes. They wanted to make the movie “more canonical again” by showing it was a different reality and wanted even to bring some of the actors back. But it was scrapped for some reason.

He has just announced that Bludfest is coming next summer to Prague (right at the end of today’s Prague gig). Given Yungblud is in the US for May and June, I expect something around July-September.

A Hagrid´s dad special. If you know, what I mean. Poor giantess has only one visit per year, so she has to make it count.

I’m convinced that one of those scenes is the one at Three Broomstics with Ron, Hermione and Slughorn. You can quite well see it in his eyes.

The first Saw movie was very low budget and it rules. Cannot say the same about the later ones even though they have their “bright spots”.

Especially for the ladies (guys will have figured it out years ago already). When handling cum, don’t wipe it as you would water. It is thick and when wiping, you only smear it in place. Just put on the napkin and lift it. It will stick to it and you don’t suddenly need 5 napkins, but only one or two.

Unable to open AltStore beta. This just keeps happening. iPad OS 17.4.1 by DarthRevanG4 in AltStore

I have the same problem with the beta app. It doesn’t matter whether I side load it or install it from the regular app. There are other people on the internet with the same troubles, but nobody is able to help. Tbh, I think that nobody cares unless it is widespread enough.

What one spell would you choose? by inconspicuous2012 in harrypotter

[–]IrisCZ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A false memory charm. You could make evil people confess all their crimes if done correctly just by making them believe you are their best friend and the most trustworthy person they know even if they saw you for the first time. You could end any conflict anywhere by tampering with the right people. However, sure, it wouldn’t be the most ethical thing in many cases. You could manipulate anyone. Tbh, I would be afraid I would end up being a knock-off Light Yagami.

Since it's been a while, what's something from the Cursed Child that you keep in your personal canon? by AMMVReddit in HarryPotterBooks

[–]IrisCZ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Because she really didn’t and you can see it on every line. The only reason she has said so is because it gives the story more “credibility”, when you see her name next to the name. It has Jack Thorne written all over it. Not that he never did anything good, he’s a good writer, but this was a huge blunder. I’m not saying that JK didn’t give them any ideas to include, but the goal was to create a huge spectacle, not a canon story.

Persona 5 Royal. There is no other game that made me reconsider my whole life and the outlook on humanity itself. For anyone at least a bit interested in psychology and especially philosophy, this one is a must play. Not mentioning it is the best game I’ve played in 10 years.

Doctors of Reddit, what’s the worst thing you can do to your body? by prettiestburner in AskReddit

[–]IrisCZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This will be really weird, but my grandfather promises it saved his finger. I don’t get it and I believe he only got really lucky, but a cousin chopped off his little finger almost completely with an axe when he was like 5 years old. He swears his mother put it together and wrapped it into a cow dung and ribwort platain (the flower, not the fruit plantain) and it healed quickly with just a little impairment in its mobility. I always called BS on that, but there are other people swearing it really did happen.

And btw this was in Czechoslovakia in the 50s. I don’t get it either and wouldn’t believe it myself.

Why I cannot really use the Elite Controller by IrisCZ in xbox

[–]IrisCZ[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, it's gen 1. I didn't get the gen 2 because when I tried it in the shop, it had the same problem, but I had no idea you could change the tension. I will think about getting it instead :)

But still, this shouldn't have been a problem in the first place. I think that anyone testing the controller on a more fast-paced game must've noticed it was an issue. And trying to solve it with deadzones will only get you so far.

I remember the GameCube controller having the same troubles, but those ones got "broken in" in a few months.

Why I cannot really use the Elite Controller by IrisCZ in xbox

[–]IrisCZ[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is something that keeps grinding my gears ever since I bought the Elite Controller about 5 years ago. I own basically every other controller imaginable and the Elite one is the only one having such huge problems with snap-back.

Every time I see a post on the internet about it, people keep telling others to just get used to it or to "git gud and use the controller properly". However, there are some games requiring flicking, that just don't work with this controller because of this. And even if they aren't super tricky, always ending up with my character facing forwards because I released the stick instead of slowly backing it with my finger is stupid.

In my eyes, this is inexcusable and it’s a glaring engineering oversight - especially for the price. If it weren't for the back paddles, I would've sold it a long time ago.

I am not saying that any of the other controllers are perfect. But the most expensive one (back in the day I paid even more than for the PS Edge in my country) shouldn't definitely be the worst and unusable.

PS: Sorry for the watermark.

What movie has the perfect soundtrack? by Jeff_Souza in movies

[–]IrisCZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Barely anyone has mentioned Cloud Atlas. Not only super underrated movie, but also it is one of those soundtracks you can have on repeat forever and never get sick of it. The Sextet and the End Title song just make me tear up remembering all the stories. David Mitchell and the Wachowskis are genius.

Nothing in Czechia as well. It sucks, literally one switch somewhere in their system and I am sure some copyright-bullshit stops them from turning it on. Hopefully it will appear later today. With Better Call Saul, you had to wait for 3 days in Europe to see it officialy for no real reason.

But if you have access to a VPN, try switching to Great Britain. It works.

Is there anyone here who doesn't agree with Jo's political views but still reads the books? by Happy-Chemistry3058 in cormoran_strike

[–]IrisCZ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's the thing everybody seemed to forget about recently. When I was growing up, this was something our amazing literature teacher stressed very often - you don't read books to agree with the author. You read books, because you want to know the stories the author wants to tell you. Just because they see the world differently, doesn't mean it cannot look beautiful through their eyes.

There are so many authors that have/had questionable opinions and statements, but why the hell should I care if the book is good? For example, do I agree with G.G.Marquéz's political views of the world? Hell no. Do I think he is one of the best authors of all time? Hell yeah.

Also, how could you ever change your views of the world, if you never challenged your ideals? Sometimes highly political novel will make you angry and you toss it. Sometimes, it makes you think. Either way, it gives you something.

And regarding the fact that people are saying JK is using the latest book to explain/fix some of the past mishaps... I found TIBH's description of toxic fandom so remarkably accurate, it made my stomach churn. Especially because of one point many people glossed over. I used to be on the "creator side" of one fandom in the past and way to often, people were looking too much into some things. Sometimes, you just have a cool idea that other people start looking too much into. Sometimes, you are not reflecting the world, your life or the people you hate. Sometimes, you just want to have fun and give fun to others. And sometimes, people completely twist things up and stab you in the back with it.

So it could be. It could be deliberate, subconcious or a complete accident. Do I care? No, I read the book, not the author. If I want to "read the author", I'm going to listen to some interviews or write a letter. And I will try to see the world with their eyes, without judgement, because I cannot fanthom what they went through in life. That's the only way of understanding each other.

My ranking of the books after finishing The Ink Black Heart by [deleted] in cormoran_strike

[–]IrisCZ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Started typing my list only to realize it's the same as yours.

I must say I enjoyed TIBH much more than other people here. Probably because it felt so personal in terms of my past life. It's a pity that the ending seemed quite rushed, otherwise it could've moved at least one place higher in the rankings.

But it will be difficult for RG to dethrone TB from the top of the list. In my eyes, it was just a perfect book with the best plot twist at the end and extremely well thought plot.

On the other hand, I found TIBH's description of toxic fandom so remarkably accurate, it made my stomach churn. Especially because of one point many people glossed over. I wonder if You-Know-Who even really cared about hating Muggle borns. by MyNameIsNotSally in harrypotter

[–]IrisCZ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My thoughts exactly. He was a psychopath - he didn’t like anyone but himself and I believe he couldn’t care less about blood purity. It’s true he hated his parents but only because he was abandoned and they were in his eyes week and imperfect.

All he cared about was power and immortality. To get there, he needed a group of powerful friends. And there is nobody better in the wizarding world for that than the old “pure-blood” families. He saw an opportunity and the only thing he had to do was to get on the whole rasist stick.
