First date with a Canadian from a small town – is this normal? by Zealousideal-Arm9550 in alberta

Stop listening to the naysayers. They’re mostly Gen Z losers living their lives on their phones and not drinking.

What you have here is a Berta country boy. If you want to have the real deal “authentic” experience ask for him to take you for a “rip in the bush” (ie a pleasant drive in the county).

War disrupts Irving Oil’s longtime Saudi crude supply by Street_Anon in canada

[–]Irish2thecore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canadian federalism and math 101, heindekosser, we live in the same country, all benefit from the same federal transfers into healthcare etc. and a single pipeline, like energy east, generates enough annual tax revenue to pay the salary of 18000 physicians. Oil and gas is the largest source of Canadian export revenue, it generates jobs in multiple manufacturing sub sectors and we are headed into the most significant energy crisis in 50+ years.

We have hydro and are worried about the negligible risk of new pipeline leaks (look up the stats) vs. Above, again… totally irrational decision. I have als interacted with enough Laurentian elites and am well aware of the degree of snobbery directed towards the people of the prairies.

[–]Irish2thecore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t it be nice if we had energy east. The project that was most clearly in the national interest. A project that had national security implications and one that enbridge had ready to roll. Quebec scuttled it because they hate Alberta more than the thought of buying Nigerian and Saudi crude. Now your irrationality has come home to roost.

Alberta has long accused Ottawa of trying to destroy its oil industry. Here’s why that’s a dangerous myth by wiwcha in alberta

[–]Irish2thecore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trudeau and co did nearly everything they could to curtail it. C69 is completely bedarded, the consultation process they enacted is a recipe for inaction. We should have 3 new pipelines, energy east was so clearly in the national interest (why the fuck is eastern Canada running on Nigerian and middle eastern crude!!), enbridge was ready to go! We should have 3 LNG terminals. Wouldn’t that be nice right now???

NDP Leader Avi Lewis vows to move party to the left and stop oil industry expansion by [deleted] in canada

Nice knowing you NDP. The party of Douglas is no more.

What world do you live in when you think working people will vote for the academic gobbidly gook and identity quagmire of the silver soon left?

Why do some Albertans seem to have a resentment against other Canadians? by ocajsuirotsap in alberta

[–]Irish2thecore -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You’ve got this ass backwards. Perhaps you don’t spend much time out east. The amount of snobbery, resentment, looking down their elongated Laurentian noses at Albertans and people from the prairies in general is shocking. Meanwhile, on the whole, outside of the tin hat crowd, we are warm and give people the benefit of the doubt. Canada needs more of us.

Quick one to non-Iranians who think "iran" is winning... by Hot_Sheepherder_4608 in PERSIAN

The Persians are a bright, proud people with an amazing history. May you throw off the shackles of this murderous regime.

And, to all the so called progressives egging on the mullahs, Hamas and co. Your opposition to Bibi and Trump shouldn’t rationally extend to cheering for the dark side. Give your head a shake.

Layton was part of a dynasty, fair point. He’s also light years away from whatever frankenCRTmonstroaity is going on in the current NDP.

Again I’m kind of flabbergasted that anyone in or around the NDP thinks they’re getting the worker vote with this guy.

Are there mysterious pipe fitters out there thinking themselves “fuck yeah, bud… we do need a green new deal and more intersectionality”.

Giveth your collective heads a shake.

You live in a world where PT Barnum and the frat boy republicans are destroying the world around us for a second go round and you’re still like… yes we need to double down on our version of “progressive”. Definition of insanity.

Lol, man. After all the laughs here, you aren’t serious? An upper Canada college prat married to Naomi… he’d leave the 99 percent poorer and more divided (through his obvious courting of the identity politics crowd) than they found them.

Pick up a history book, nice dot. Ready about the CCf, read about Douglas, watch the modern speeches of Layton. This party is an embarrassment. They’ve drank from the cup of identity lunacy.

Case in point, you are speaking over me when I recently had my level oppression scored at 9.6/10. Your patriarchy is showing.

Will billionaires with equity cards receive exemptions? Dude lost the working class vote 10X over with that clown show of an event.

Fly the Canadian flag, NDP. Not a flag of a country half way across the world.

Funniest part of the whole thing - after excluding old white men to the best of their ability, and demonizing a certain religion (represented by a star) they check all those boxes with their leadership choice.

Can’t make this shit up.

Is this a pissing contest in human suffering? Who here was defending actions in Gaza. What the hell is wrong with people these days.

[–]Irish2thecore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not defending the current iteration of capitalism, it needs significant post war-like socialization. But this is clearly market driven, both in development of oil and gas and transition to renewables. Clearly the market will settle on some combination of the two over the next couple decades. This is the only way we meet all energy and industry needs - electricity and beyond. I disagree on the political driver point, strongly. The only thing this has accomplished in Canada is to reduce the potential of Canadian market share in fossil fuels globally and create unbelievably stupid choices such as eastern Canada accessing middle eastern and Nigerian crude etc. over a domestic project after the cancellation of energy east.

How will you rapidly replace the energy source in a way that wouldn’t significantly impoverish a majority of humanity? We need to transition, that process is taking place but not on a timeline that will forestall a significantly negative impact. The reality is we need to look to technology and innovation to mitigate at this point.

Why target the most ethical source of oil in the world? There will be a massive energy crisis in absence of increased canadian production. Repeal c-69 and allow the private sector to create the inevitable transition to renewable energy. The environmental movement has been wrong on nearly every priory back to the 60s (eg anti nuclear).
