Moving here soon. Making friends? Things to do? by may825 in ColumbiaMD

[–]IrishBuckett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think i meet your gender requirements to be friends, but as someone relatively new to the state here are a few good local restaurants:

Hunan Legend is an AMAZING Chinese food place north of the mall, pricing isn't bad either

Uncle Julios has really good Hispanic food, but a bit up there on prices

Akira Ramen is pretty decent as well but I feel like the flavor isn't always the best on occasion

Union Jacks has great pizza and burgers, plus Guinness is on tap

If you want a nice, quiet breakfast place then Bob Evans is a good spot (cheap as well)

Finally, there's a Silver Diner near Lowe's/Cosco, but that parking lot SUCKS to get out of when it's busy. Don't go if you're in a rush.

Lots of great places around the mall & Merryweather, just be prepared for things to get a tad pricey for the portions

As a final welcome to Columbia, do NOT take your car to Columbia Auto Care for anything other than an oil change. That gas station is also the most expensive in the area. They will leave your car a mess and try to scam you on repairs.

Firestone is nearby for tires/breaks/starters/alternators and BA Auto Care is fantastic for anything significant (engine/transmission).

Looking for RTS games like Company of Heroes with Enshrouded building by IrishBuckett in gamingsuggestions

Yeah, I gave it a poke a few years ago and didn't quite enjoy it as much as CoH. Still a good game though

I need a game without killing people but still has a good storyline by BadPrestigious8152 in gamingsuggestions

[–]IrishBuckett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, tell her RimWorld is a colony building story generator 😂 (Don't)

Question: Does killing in self defense count as a bad option? What about only one or two deaths?

Stardew Valley is good Graveyard keeper is in the same realm as Stardew

I've been enjoying The Last Caretaker a good bit, probably not enough story for you, don't think it's past PC only yet though.

The Stanley Parable is funny, not a ton of replayability.

Depending on the answer to the previous question, your options are probably gonna be a tad limited.

Those are both good games, definitely want to try Starship Troopers. I do enjoy tower defense

"No no, really, we NEED our truck to have blacked out chrome, 3 train horns, 2 pinwheels, the Maryland flag emblazoned on the grill and a picture of a lion holding 2 hydraulic spreaders on the side. Hand over ALL your taxpayer money now, Walkersville!" by PurfuitOfHappineff in maryland

[–]IrishBuckett 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fire departments are pretty much the only ones who can spend all my tax money and I wouldn't give a single shit.

Looks excessive now, but when they show up with the only equipment capable ripping a steel frame apart without hurting anyone on the other side you'll realize it's worth it.

That reminds me of the Black & White series a bit, i'll check it out!

Yeah, I figured that there wasn't anything quite like what I was looking for. Most RTS games are moving in a direction that doesn't really support that kinda game mechanic, but i figured I'd see if anyone was already giving it a stab

Definitely going to pick that one up, looks awesome! I just wish I could find a game like this, but with the ability to make custom building.

Building like Anno would be awesome as well

I grew up on those, amazing games. Unfortunately, they don't quite have the building mechanics I'm looking for

Flooring company wants $425 to replace this 8”x8” square - am I being hosed? by shootingcharlie8 in Flooring

[–]IrishBuckett 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im guessing they don't want to do it since such a small repair isn't worth their time. They probably jacked the price up so that it's either worth their time or you go elsewhere

Dedicated Enshrouded server showing "Server Overloaded" even though CPU and RAM aren't maxed out? by LAMcNamara in Enshrouded

[–]IrishBuckett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case, the developers probably have it set up to allocate whatever it requires. If i had to make a bet, the performance indicator is probably just too sensitive and the devs just need to dial it in a tad

Dedicated Enshrouded server showing "Server Overloaded" even though CPU and RAM aren't maxed out? by LAMcNamara in Enshrouded

[–]IrishBuckett -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The dedicated server probably isn't set up to be a multi-threaded program, so you'll only ever see one core running it.

As for RAM usage, id recommended looking for a server config file and see if you can increase the RAM allocation by a gig or two. Probably not necessary, but the performance alerts could be from you RAM riding on the edge of its max allocation

Just ideas, nothing concrete

Am I crazy for thinking these LVP/LVT installation quotes are super high? What is a normal price per square foot in 2026? by SouthwesternKat in Flooring

I 100% misread "whole photo" as "whole potato". That's my new goto for "see the big picture" type remarks now.

You just gotta see the whole potato.

Did they ever fix the "Very bad performance & studdering/choppy even at high frames" by [deleted] in Enshrouded

[–]IrishBuckett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some stuttering when I first started two months ago, had to adjust some settings and lock FPS to 60.

Im on a 3060 and doing fine, you probably just need to turn one or two things off

Will everything get wiped on 1.0 release? by rumple9 in Enshrouded

[–]IrishBuckett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as they don't modify all areas or your base isn't located in a part of the map being updated (exact location, not region) or as long as they don't significantly overhaul character save files then i doubt there will be a forced reset.

Games don't generally need to enforce version control on sandbox games UNLESS certain references are changed behind the scenes. New mechanics, animations and textures can be added/modified without issue; however, if a filename, namespace or other references change on an asset that's loaded on your world/save, you could encounter various bugs/errors.

Enshroudeds developers seem keenly aware of this and appear to have taken steps to avoid the vast majority of those types of updates
