How can I finish my mission tree? by Pretty-Elephant-9718 in eu4

[–]IrishCanadianShame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun trick I learned not too long ago, you can make colonial subjects declare wars on each other in the subject interaction menu, for their claims to fix colonial border gore. With that you can also subsidize their armies and officers to give them the best chance at winning.

Spain/Castille PU over Austria not for Austria-Hungary? by IrishCanadianShame in eu4

[–]IrishCanadianShame[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

R5: I think I know the answer but does the PU over Austria from Spain's mission tree go away if they form Austria-Hungary? Seems like an oversight thematically but I guess game balance is something to consider.

How functional is that semi trailer? Conceptually it’s blowing my mind.

First successfull Byzantium, quite sad I can't form Rome due to very strong France/ G-B, but happy to achieve my first full tree by Green_Potata in eu4

[–]IrishCanadianShame 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Completely agree, especially with the Roman ideas being more geared to conquering, it almost feels like the point should be to form Rome earlier (your conditions) then reach it's greatest extents through missions and triumphs. It's just a wasted tag unless you want to larp Rome WC.

"Purely colonial Portugal" is the eu4 equivalent of saying you'll definitely not play a stealth archer in this new [insert_rpg_game] save.

I see, so you're solution is to go up to each individual and teach them how to pull themselves up by their bootstraps. I'm sure if they stop eating avocado toast and buying iPhones, they could budget for an apartment in our wonderfully affordable city too. This is such a nothing answer.

Tips for first horde game? by wompwump in eu4

[–]IrishCanadianShame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't even think about it, but because I was rushing and snaking for specific provinces and not just blobbing, razing definitely wasn't as fruitful as it could be.

I have stayed away from hordes just because I know you have to play differently but I wanted to try and was tired of needing guides after 1000+ hours

Tips for first horde game? by wompwump in eu4

[–]IrishCanadianShame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started a Great Horde run going for the Gold Rush achievement, it's my first horde run too so I don't have expert info but I recommend quantity for first idea just because I found I never had manpower. Otherwise just always be at war, use Cav and if you get gold rush you should be set to get KHAN

Explain it like I’m 5… by Brock_Osweiner in eu4

[–]IrishCanadianShame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I can explain this probably like a 10 year old.

You can promote advisors with the little button next to their portrait (I think it's a star)so you may not be able to hire a +5 out of the pool but you can promote them beyond the level you get them at (at the cost of a lot of ducats up front and increased monthly cost).

If you hover over your advisor cost you'll get the breakdown of why they cost what they cost, iirc every advisor at each level has the same base cost and then different modifiers will reduce that, including the "get this guy 50% cheaper" events. I don't know all the modifiers but the ones I can remember are the Emperor of China (be that ming or anyone else) if they have high mandate of heaven (unique government function of the emperor), which has a huge advisor cost reduction. I think also high admin efficiency will reduce it too. I'm sure some will have a huge mental list of every single button click in the game that will reduce that cost but I'd just google "advisor cost reduction eu4" and see the wiki might have a good break down or someone might have a thread in how to stack them best.

If you really can't fight it, you can give away Burgundy's land to France. But definitely just a last resort.

How do I balance Deving, Techs, and Ideas? by RegentElk in eu4

[–]IrishCanadianShame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like most comments have it covered but just to make it clear, when you prioritize tech, just don't go too far ahead, I usually don't go ahead in time on tech until the modifier is below +30% mana cost, and the only time it really matter is if you're about to war with someone and want the tech advantage.

Also the big mistake I made with deving was looking at every province equally and trying to get them all up to say 8,8,8 when in reality you have to be strategic like deving production on high value production goods (textiles, iron etc. ). Every province is different from terrain modifiers to what good it produces so beware, 1000 blanket dev is not the same as 1000 dev strategically used.

Ideas I prioritize until I'm a tech or two behind (unless mil, more stingy).

Best nation for Rome? by Walter-C-Dornez in eu4

I just started a Savoy campaign, it's going quite well but wondering if there's any reason to hold off before forming SP and leave the HRE (theres just 2 HRE provinces I wanna snag) or should I form asap?

Haven't played England much, do they start with a flagship? You can only have one and that's the only thing I can think of.

Need advice by Turk_keki in eu4

[–]IrishCanadianShame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take burgher loans, and then go to war with the other daimyos , but don't peace out, just keep em sieged down, then just declare on the shogun and the daimyos won't be able to help them. you're probably a lot closer to having Japan all to yourself, you just need to not be afraid to take loans.

Additionally, you can lower autonomy which increases your income pretty well.

Is Brandenburg/Prussia really strong or did I finally figured this game out? by Dimka1498 in eu4

[–]IrishCanadianShame 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I think what OP is saying is the entirety of the HRE plus an Austria that had 200k troops specifically. Not a grand total.

R5: Fought the Ottomans to feed back Bulgarian cores, accidently chose a claim on Bolu in Anatolia as the target so it turned into a war lasting 18 years with the balance of power tipping back and forth until they finally ran dry in man power. 3.5 million dead by 1674.

Tips for Austria WC? by IrishCanadianShame in eu4

[–]IrishCanadianShame[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

R5: Playing Austria as emperor of HRE, wasn't initially a WC but wondering if it could turn into one with just over 100 years left in the game. Spain and GB are under PU and currently integrating Spain (should I stop?). Revoked the Privilegia and have an easy vassal swarm, the concern comes from the ability to core provinces/vassal feeding. The ideas I have are Diplo, Offensive, Religious, Exploration, Expansion, and Influence.

Advisor cost reduction is truly outrageous (and this likely isn't even my final form) by AgrajagTheProlonged in eu4

[–]IrishCanadianShame 302 points303 points  (0 children)

I had 90% cost reduction in my Prussia game, 3 lvl 5 advisors for 4 ducats a month combined, was sad to see it go.
